WORK SURFACESProper selection of work surface material is critical to creating a functional laboratory. The work surface must be appropriate to the type of work performed in the lab and the chemicals that are used, otherwise the integrity of the entire laboratory may be jeopardised.

For research workers and laboratory users, the laboratory could be an extremely hazardous environment. On a daily basis, they are constantly exposed to flammable and toxic chemicals, harmful, gases and corrosive acids.

A Laboratory fume hood is a type of enclosed exhaust ventilation system to protect the user from inhaling toxic gases, hazardous chemical fumes and harmful vapors generated during experiments inside the fume hoods.

Our fume hood is designed to protect laboratory personnel by providing an enclosed work area that withdraws the harmful chemical fumes away. Within the fume hood enclosure, the hood's directional air flow carries the harmful contaminants away from the user towards the rear of the hood, thus preventing laboratory personnel from inhaling or coming into contact with the harmful contaminants.

The properly-designed exhaust system will dilute the contaminants with large amount of air before safely exhausting them to the atmosphere.

The design and performance of our fume hood are generally conform to the requirements of the ASHRAE 110-95 International Standards

Blower

Each blower comes with a motor and is protected to ensure that sparks cannot be transmitted to the fumes. The motor is TEFC class E, 1450 rpm constant speed type, IP 54 classification, it complies with BS 3979-1966 and is weather-proof. The size of fan motor is rated for continuous operation in ambient temperature of up to 40 degree C and is sufficient to meet the operating requirements. Each motor includes a fire glass weather casing complete with side ventilation slots.

Variable Speed Drives

A Variable Speed Drive (VSD) fume hood is one that is fitted with a face velocity controller which varies the amount of air exhausted from the fume hood in response to the sash opening to maintain a constant face velocity.

Scrubber System

External scrubbers are built with FRP, PP, PE or PVC materials. Our scrubbers are usually designed horizontally. Taking advantage of the cross flow configuration, where is gives maximum liquid replenishing and high liquid feed rates. All three models of fume hoods in this website can be incorporated with an optional scrubber system.

Neutralizing solution from a separate chemical dosing pump, working in tandem with the pH meter and controller, pumps in just the correct amount of chemicals to maintain the pH level desired.

Ductless fume hoods such as Paramount Ductless Enclosures are filtered fume hoods that can be portable.

Ductless fume hoods, sometimes called carbon-filtered enclosures or filtered fume hoods, are self-contained, filtered laboratory enclosures that remove hazardous fumes, vapors and particles from the laboratory.

Although there are different classes of ductless and filtered fume hoods, some hoods still limit applications that can be performed in them. Some ductless fume hoods should only be used light-duty or process-specific fume hoods. Other filtered fume hoods can be used for a wide range of chemicals, but keep in mind that larger chemical volumes will always shorten filter life.

A limited number of different chemicals should be used.No extreme heating should be carried out in the hood, i.e. acid digestion applications.Modest chemical volumes should be used, around 500 mls or less per chemical.Moderate chemical exposure times should be maintained.If your application does not meet these parameters, a standard ducted fume hood is likely the best option for maximum safety and economical feasibility. If you do not know what chemicals will be used in the future, or you have a very long list of chemicals, the application would best be performed in a ducted fume hood.

LAMINAR FLOW

The Laminar Flow Workstations have been developed to satisfy increasing demands for stringent air cleanliness in the medical, pharmaceutical, scientific and industrial fields. Typical applications include tissue culture, sterility testing, sterile dilutions, dispensing, media pouring, plant research and the assembly of electronics and optics components.

It produces a horizontal flow of non-turbulent air free from airborne contaminants. The unrestricted open-front work area allows the use of microscopes and other equipment under biologically clean conditions.

Ambient air is drawn in through an easily-accessible prefilter on top of the cabinet and is introduced to the work area through a final HEPA filter which comprises the rear of the work chamber.

The average laminar flow air velocity within the work area is maintained at 0.45 m/s with uniformity within ±20%. Air cleanliness within the work zone is better than Class 3.5 (100) in accordance with AS 1386.1.

BIO SAFETY CABINETS (BSC)

Biological Safety Cabinets are designed to provide a high degree of personnel and environment protection for work with low to moderate risk biological agents that require Biosafety Level 1, 2 or 3 containment. When operated at a minimum average inflow velocity of 100 fpm through the work access opening and hard-ducted to a facility exhaust system after HEPA filtration.

The barrier air blends with the contaminated work area air and is directed through an easily accessible prefilter on top of the work zone to trap large particles.

The contaminated work area air is totally exhausted to the laboratory or outside atmosphere after HEPA filtration. The airflow system ensures that the cabinets are surrounded by negative pressure zones to contain potentially hazardous aerosols.

AIRCON MECHANICAL VENTILATIONWITH HUMDITY CONTROL &LABORATORY EXHAUST SYSTEM

It is well known that Air Con is always the highest energy consumed among the many system in any building especially in laboratories. Because of the heat load from the lab equipments, the design is generally higher than say, an office space.

In addition to this, the Relative Humidity in the lab is also critical to some lab operations. It is not uncommon for a specific testing lab to have a 50% RH at 20 deg C. Precise control of temperature and RH with minimum tolerance is relatively common in some of these labs.

To date, AZIL has successfully completed many similar projects and continue to be the forefront of air con design with precision humidity control.

Exhaust system is one of the few major components in most laboratories set up. Whether it is a single exhaust or a group of exhaust with manifold system, it is important that this is studied and determine at an early stage prior to the construction of any laboratory.

There are many different types and application of exhaust system depending on the type of fumes to be extracted.

These must be in compliance to the Authority – Environment Control Pollution requirement – DOE/DOSH in Malaysia or NEA in Singapore.
