Families all over South East England are on average £2,061 a year worse off under the Tories. David Cameron doesn’t understand the cost-of-living crisis facing hardworking people and pensioners. Prices are rising, wages are stagnant, and living standards are falling.

Only Labour will make Britain better off. Ed Miliband will freeze energy bills, saving an average household £120 a year. We’ll expand free childcare for working parents, and we’ll help people struggling to get on the housing ladder by getting Britain building again.

This election is your chance to send a message that this Tory-led government should put hardworking people first and take urgent action to tackle the cost-of-living crisis that families are facing. Find out more about Labour’s plans inside.

THURSDAY MAY 22 ELECTION SPECIAL

Winning for you

From Milton Keynes to Margate and everywhere in between, Labour is working hard for you and your family.

Electricity and gas bills up £300 under David Cameron Ed Miliband will freeze your gas and electricity bills until 2017 if Labour wins the next General Election. His campaign has already forced some of the big energy companies to freeze prices. Gas and electricity bills have already soared by £300 under David Cameron. Millions of people are struggling to keep up with energy bills rising faster than wages.

But David Cameron has done nothing to stop the big energy companies putting up prices while making record profits. Labour is standing up for hard-working people and pensioners being ripped off by the energy companies.

Labour’s gas and electricity bill freeze will save the average family £120 a year. And we will reset the broken energy market and create a tough new regulator to stop overcharging. Find out how much you could save at labour.org.uk/energy.

Hardworking people will be better off with Labour

• Freezing gas and electricity bills until 2017 • Building more homes – 200,000 homes a year by 2020 • 25 hours of free childcare for working parents of three and four year olds

• A compulsory jobs guarantee for young people unemployed for over a year • Strengthening the minimum wage and stopping recruitment agencies hiring just from overseas

A vote for Labour at this election is a vote for:

Labour will expand free childcare

All primary school children will be guaranteed access to childcare from 8am – 6pm if Labour wins the next General Election. Parents with 3-4 year olds will get help too. Labour will increase the free childcare available to working parents to 25 hours a week.

Across the South East children will benefit from Labour’s childcare plan. We’ll pay for this by a tougher levy on the banks. Under David Cameron the banks are paying almost £3 billion less in tax than they did in 2010. It cannot be right that when times are tough the banks are paying less tax while working families pay more. That’s why Labour will force banks to pay their fair share and use that money to help young families give their kids the best possible start in life.

Labour will get Britain building family homes

Millions of families in the South East are struggling with housing costs because David Cameron isn’t getting enough houses built. Labour will get 200,000 homes built a year by 2020, creating up to 230,000 construction jobs. And we will get a fair deal for families who rent, with a national register of private landlords and an end to rip-off fees and charges.

Only with Labour will Britain be better off

THE TORIES CAN'T MAKE BRITAIN BETTER OFF because they only stand up for the privileged few. They just don’t understand the cost-of-living crisis facing ordinary people. That’s why they’ve handed out tax breaks to millionaires whilst making hardworking families worse off. THE LIB DEMS CAN'T MAKE BRITAIN BETTER OFF because they are part of the problem. You can’t trust a word Nick Clegg says. The Lib Dems have broken their promises and are propping up a Tory-led government that only stands up for the privileged few. UKIP CAN'T MAKE BRITAIN BETTER OFF because they are even more right-wing than the Tories. A vote for UKIP is a vote for tax breaks for the richest, higher taxes for working families and even deeper cuts to public services.

On your side in Europe

Anneliese and John talking to workers at the BMW Mini plant Oxford. The UK motor industry is now a big success but jobs are at risk if the UK leaves the EU. Labour is working for change to deliver a strong Britain in a better Europe.

We need Labour MEPs who will work hard for people in South East England Anneliese Dodds and John Howarth are leading Labour’s challenge on 22 May Anneliese says, “Voters face a big choice. What sort of Europe do we want: a Europe for bankers and big business, or a Europe for everyone? Right now people all over the UK are struggling with the cost of living, working really hard to pay their bills while the Tories hand out tax cuts to millionaires. I want to speak up for people against powerful interests and see a better future for our young people struggling to find jobs.” John and Anneliese have pledged to work hard in Europe to secure new jobs and the investment in infrastructure and skills the South East needs to compete effectively in a modern economy. They will defend your rights at work, as a parent and as a consumer – rights the Conservatives and UKIP want to scrap. Anneliese and John will also support the

fight against organised crime, terrorism and people trafficking in Europe; and would vote against any measure that would force NHS privatisation. John says, “We want to see a strong Britain in a better Europe. If we are going to get to grips with the huge corporations who avoid paying tax and the big firms that trade across borders on the Internet but don’t contribute their fair share, we have to win changes in Europe to make it happen. I want to be an MEP who stands up for British people.'' Every Labour vote, everywhere will count In the elections for the European Parliament we vote as part of the South East England European Constituency. The area includes many strong Labour towns and cities. MEPs are elected in proportion to the number of votes each party gets. So every single vote helps Labour win more MEPs to stand up for local people, local jobs and local communities.

Every Labour vote everywhere will count

You can't trust the Tories with your NHS The crisis in A&E shows that you can’t trust the Tories with the NHS. At the last election, David Cameron promised the NHS would be safe in his hands. But over the last year, almost a million people have waited over four hours in A&E, and since the election our NHS has lost thousands of nurses and other frontline staff.

Use your vote on the 22 May to stand up for our NHS. Only with Labour will the NHS be better off. David Cameron is responsible for the crisis in our NHS. He’s wasted £3 billion and caused chaos with a top-down reorganisation nobody wanted. Thousands of managers have been made redundant and then re-hired, many on six-figure salaries. And cuts to elderly care are sending

more older people to A&E and making it harder to get the care they need at home. Labour rescued the NHS after years of Tory neglect before. We’ll do it again. We’ll repeal David Cameron’s NHS changes that put private profit before patients, so that NHS professionals can focus on your care, not competition law. And we’ll give patients and the public a say when changes to local services are proposed.
