Dear Lacamas Families, September 2019 It is so great to be back and starting our 2019-2020 school year! As a community, we continue to grow with new students, families, teachers and staff. We are so excited to welcome Ms. Boyd to Kindergarten, Mrs. Menor to 4th grade, Mr. Magner to 5 th grade, Ms. Vanden-Brink and Mrs. Zabel to our SEL team and teaching staff! We also have over fifteen new Para, Supervision, Nurse, Media, Tech and Custodial staff and over 100 new students joining our Leopard family! Everyone has been busy settling into their routines and establishing positive relationships as we start this new school year. We are ready to See and Serve our kids! For the month of September, we are spending time building relationships and learning our new routines. All students participated in “Top Spot Training Camp” where we shared and practiced our expectations, school procedures and spent time developing our classroom communities. Lacamas Leopards are… Respectful, Responsible, Safe and Kind! As a community, we strive to create a school culture that fosters positive character qualities and academic excellence in an environment where we all learn and grow. We are off to a great start! At Lacamas, our goal is to bring families together through activities and events that support our kids. We enjoyed getting to see everyone at our Block Party and look forward to our September events! A few activities that are coming up include Picture Day, Fall Family Learning Night and our Spot-A-Thon! Remember to check your Lacamas calendar and look for school flyers highlighting these activities. We are excited to have you join us! Many parents are interested in ways that they can get involved and help out. If you are interested in helping out, whether you serve as a classroom helper or work with our PALS groups, we welcome all volunteers. Check with your child’s teacher to volunteer in class and visit our PALS website to find ways to support our parent group. Our PALS meet the second Wednesday of every month from 6:00-8:00. To volunteer with kids, you will need to complete the Volunteer Application found on the district website prior to volunteering. This application needs to be completed every two years. We appreciate our family support and involvement with our leopard community. Thank you to all families for making the start of this year a great one! As we continue to focus on providing our kids with a positive, safe environment, please continue to support us by remembering these requests: When you visit, you must first check in to the office and wear a visitor sticker. If you come between 8:15-2:35, you will use the buzzer system to enter. All volunteers are required to complete a Volunteer Application. If you need to pick your child up early or make a change in their after school plan, we ask that you send a note or call before 1:00. This supports our office staff with making sure we get our kids where they need to go. If you make a change at the very end of the day, please understand that we may not be able to accommodate your request. If you have arranged for a daily pick-up, you may go straight to the lobby, no need to check out in the office. All other pick-ups will check in at the office to receive a pick-up note before waiting in the lobby. At the start of the day, we ask that parents drop off your child in the front drop zone or the front lobby. Now that kids have a few days under their belt, we ask that parents please not walk their child to their class. This provides support for your child’s independence. At the end of the day, we ask that parents wait in the lobby for your child. This assures the safety of our kids. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. It is going to be an amazing year. I look forward to seeing you at Lacamas Lake Elementary! At Lacamas Lake Elementary

This school year, the Parents Association of Lacamas Students (PALS) are doing the following Fundraisers: Spot-a-Thon and Payback Books.

Spot-A-Thon On Friday, September 27th PALS will be hosting our 10th Annual Fundraising Event with our direct drive fundraiser!! Support our children during this fun filled event AND raise funds to fill important budget gaps within our Lacamas Community such as classroom supplies, field trip scholarships, art programs, library, and music. These programs would not exist as they do without the support of the Spot-A-Thon.

We are again looking to try and raise $35 per student or $75 per family to continue to support all of the programs that make Lacamas a strong community and an enriching environment. Because there is nothing to sell, EVERY DOLLAR goes directly to Lacamas.

Either at the back to school night or during the first week of school, you should have received your Spot-a-Thon envelope. You will use this to track any donations your child receives for this fundraiser. All the money that your child raises will go directly to helping our school!

For more information on the Spot-a-Thon or to make an online donation, you can visit our website at http://lacamaspals.weebly.com/spot-a-thon.html

The envelope and all donations received for the Spot-a-Thon need to be returned to Lacamas by Friday 9/27 to be counted for the prizes!

PALS is also looking for volunteers to help lead some of our events on the day of the event. If you have a talent or skill (dancing, drawing, martial arts etc.) that you think would be a good event to include in the Spot-a-Thon and would like to help, please email PALS at [email protected].

Payback Books This year we are also selling Payback books as a soft fundraiser since many families commented that they purchase these books from other school fundraisers. There is no requested requirement to selling or purchasing these books, If your family does not want to sell or purchase one, please just send the book and envelope back to your child's teacher.

Payback books are a coupon book that includes discounts for many local merchants in the SW Washington area. They are available for purchase for $20.00 a book and $10.00 from each book sold will go directly to Lacamas.

Either at the back to school night or during the first week of school, you should have received your Payback envelope and a sample Payback book. You will use this to track any Payback book purchases your child gets for this soft fundraiser.

The envelope and payments for books purchased need to be returned to our school by Friday 9/20 to be counted for the prizes.

We greatly appreciate your support of our fundraisers! If you have any questions on either of these fundraisers, please email PALS at [email protected].

Welcome back to school! My name is Julie Enos and I’m thrilled to be Lacamas Lake Elementary school’s Box Tops for Education™ Coordinator. Clipping or scanning Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for our school. Each one is worth 10¢ for our school!

Traditional Box Tops clips are being phased out of production, but may continue to be found on many products throughout the store. You can still clip and send them to school. Every valid Box Tops clip is worth 10¢ for our school. Make sure each one has a clearly visible product acronym and expiration date. Just look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products. All you have to do is clip them and send them to school. Using a collection sheet, bundling tops in groups of 25 & separating bonus box tops will help assist in a smooth collection & submission process.

!

Eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label. If you see this label, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10¢ each for our school. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to your school's earnings online. Just download the app, select Lacamas Lake Elementary school & scan the receipt containing the Box Top items. The app will automatically add earnings to our school online!

Our first Box Top drive of the school year will run October 1st-October 25th. Collection forms will be coming home in back packs to offer a convenient place to tape all those box tops & please download the Box Top App to redeem any digital box tops from your purchases for our school.

Last school year, we earned close to $800 for our school from Box Tops. This year there will be a school wide prize offered for reaching the half way point and hitting that $800 goal! Let’s get clipping & scanning!

For more information on Box Tops, including a list of participating products, go to BTFE.com. Be sure to sign up as a member (it’s free!) so you can check out our school’s earnings details and get access to coupons and bonus offers.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at julie.enos09 @gmail.com. I’m here to help make our school’s Box Tops for Education™ program a huge success this year.

Thank you so much for your help!
