In the language of St. Valentine's Day, a red heart symbolizes a holiday of love and romance.

In the language of St. Valentine's Day, red hearts symbolize a holiday of love and romance.

Lacy valentines of the Victorian era reached their peak in the years 1840-1860. On delicate lace paper hand-painted motifs such as; cupids, birds, flowers, hearts, and darts may be enhanced with chiffon, silk, satin, tule, or lace. Novelty Valentines might feature a tiny mirror, an envelope, a puzzle purse, or a slot to hold a lock of hair. There were Valentine checks drawn against the Bank of Love and Valentines printed to look like paper money. One of these looked too much like a real five-pound note and was quickly recalled. Some valentines were decorated with watercolor or delicate pen and ink. Often the handwriting was a thing of beauty as fine penmanship was considered a form of art. For me it brings to mind Valentine hearts, passions, desires, music played by stringed instruments, and how do the French say it... ah yes...of course ™L'Amourº. The Holiday of love and longing. Ok, I know it's a bit of a stretch but I tried. In this issue we have a very steamy (literally) photo shoot, a submission from France, and a fantastic Steampunk band built around classically trained musicians that are putting a new and old spin on what falls into the Steampunk music genre.

Since the last time, we now have iTunes and Google Play apps for easy access to digital versions of Ladies of Steampunk issues. You can buy single issues or a subscription. I think this is going to be fantastic for the magazine and our readers.

As always we are looking for stories and submissions from the community. If you have a photo shoot or article idea, and you would like to publish in our magazine, please submit your work via our Facebook page or official website. We will review everything and try to make you space in an upcoming issue.

Stay Steamy my friends.™Sean WayneºEditor in Chief
