Because of this, practices are closed to the public except for the last fifteen minutes of each practice. Parents of current players or alumni are always welcomed provided they are not distracting the coaches or players. Coaches reserve the right to close practices from all distractions if they arise.

Practice Protocol continue

Cellular Phone Usage• Players may not have or use cell phones during

practice, team meetings, or during team events that demand their attention. Phones should be left in a safe place during these times. They may use them to call home for rides at the end of practices, games, or other team events. They may use them for motivational music during our morning runs.

Attendance Absence from Team Practices and Activities Excused Absences• An absence is excused if the player notifies the head coach in advance and the head coach approves the

absence.• Absences are strongly discouraged as it disrupts and takes away from the player’s and teams’ ability to

improve.• Excused absences might include but are not limited to – family emergencies, medical emergencies,

academic opportunities.• Illness or injury is not an excused absence unless a signed note from a relevant doctor is provided to the

head coach. Injured players are expected to attend practice for rehabilitation, physical therapy, and/or team concepts.

• Work is not an excused absence.• HTHS VOLLEYBALL SHOULD BE A PRIORITY ONCE TRAINING BEGINS! SCHOOL RELATED EVENTS ARE

EXCEPTED. MAKE UP SESSIONS TO BE DETERMINED.  Unexcused Absences• An absence is unexcused if the player does not notify the head coach before the absence occurs, or

does not provide proper written documentation or communication indicating an acceptable reason for the absence. MAKE UP SESSIONS ARE ALWAYS REQUIRED.

NOTE – PLAYERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR COMMUNICATING WITH THE HEAD COACH.COMMUNICATION SKILLS ARE VITAL!!! NOT JUST IN THE SPORT OF VOLLEYBALL.

If an athlete does not practice, she will not play. If an athlete misses practice the day before a match she will not play.If missing practices become habitual, then the coaches and athlete will meet to evaluate the player’s commitment to the program. During this meeting, they will discuss possible solutions, including dismissal from the team due to lack of commitment.

Exceptions: May include family, death, school related events (HTHS).

Team Travel-TransportationRegular Season Matches -The team will travel in cars with parent drivers and on a school bus if needed.

Players are NOT be allowed to drive themselves or other players.

On dates when a school bus is our mode of transportation, players will be required to ride the team bus to and from away matches. Riding the bus together is an important team building experience. If we have won or lost, we are together to support, celebrate, and learn.***Away tournaments – Parent Transportation/School Bus

COACHES PLAYING TIME BELIEFSOur Beliefs Concerning Playing Time• Playing time is not guaranteed and equal playing time for every player on the team will not be a priority. We will play

players on the court who give us the best chance of winning each match. Of course we will try to get some playing time for all of the players, but remember your daughters play a big role in earning playing time. (attendance, ability, attitude, academics, health, safety and effort are all contributing factors as well)

• As parents, sometimes you will disagree with our decisions. That is part of coaching that we will accept. However, we will not entertain lengthy discussions on playing time.

Starting Lineups and Substitution Patterns • We WILL stress to the players to work hard at practice and on their own to improve their skills. If one player is progressing

faster than another, she will see more playing time. Also if a player is having a bad match or tournament, then another player will get a chance. We WILL stress to our players to be flexible. Some players will play multiple positions. We will put the girls on the court in the positions that will strengthen our team’s success. Also, keep in mind, player positions may be determined in accordance to our opponents.

• We will work hard to find a position or opportunity on the court which gives your daughter the best chance to help our team the most. So if your daughter does not get into a game or match, please be patient. Getting mad at the coaches or the situation will not help you, your daughter, or the team.

• It is our hope that players, parents, and coaches are going to give their best. • It is our hope that we are all going to be a TEAM first, players second. We as adults are expected to be role models for the

“children”.

Player & Parent Communication#1 – If at any time a player is experiencing problems, conflicts, or frustrations of any kind, it is important that SHE contact the coach in a mature, respectful, and professional manner to try to resolve the situation.

#2 – If at any time a parent is experiencing problems, conflicts, or frustrations with a coach concerning their daughter, it is strongly recommended that you speak with your daughter first, and then contact the coach in a manner that is mature, respectful, and professional in order to try to resolve the situation. Parents are strongly discouraged from creating division amongst other teammates, parents, and coaches.

#3 – If players or parents have a question concerning playing time please understand that the coaches will speak with the player and the parent once in an effort to clarify any misconceptions or misunderstandings. You may contact the coaches by email or phone. Please review the coach’s playing time beliefs prior to making an appointment to help bring clarity to the situation.

#4- If at any time during the season a parent has concerns about a particular issue that causes them to be really upset, they are asked to wait 24 hours after the specific incident, match, or event before contacting the coach to schedule a meeting. This allows all parties a chance to gain proper perspective. Please note…coaches will not speak with unruly parents before, during, or after a match if the 24 hour period has not occurred.

#5 If parents cannot exhibit good sportsmanship and positive communication towards the support of their daughter, her team or their coaches , then it may result in the removal of their daughter from the team.

REMINDER : YOUR DAUGHTERS ARE THE PLAYERS…WE EXPECT THEM TO LEARN AND EXHIBIT PROPER COMMUNICATION SKILLS TOWARDS THEIR COACHES AND TEAMMATES. THEY SHOULD BE THE ONES MAKING CONTACT IF THEY HAVE CONFLICTS OF ANY NATURE IN TERMS OF ATTENDANCE OR PLAYING TIME.
