Preparing your child for success lies at
the heart of everything that we do. A range
of teaching and learning strategies are
used effectively to engage our pupils in the
learning process.
Lessons and activities are carried out in small groups or on a
one to one basis to ensure that the focus is appropriate for each
child. At Ladywood the curriculum is based on the Early Years
Foundation Stage curriculum for our younger children and on the
National Curriculum for Key Stage 1 and 2.
We also place a very strong emphasis on Personal and
Social Education and on Creative Arts.
“The excellent progress pupils make is the result of a
curriculum, teaching and care of the highest order.”

Developing skills for life!At Ladywood the team recognises the importance of
individual learning styles. We have a creative, dynamic
and multi-sensory approach to learning. This curriculum
delivers the full range of skills to enable our children to
become life- long learners. Children are encouraged to
explore their talents and have opportunities to generalise
and transfer these skills. Very small classes ensure we can
actively engage in personalised learning.
Fun ways to discover more! The environment at Ladywood has been
designed to engage and challenge our children
and encourage them to be active learners.
Ladywood School has a large soft play room,
sensory room, extensive ICT equipment and two
mini buses to facilitate first hand experiential
learning outside of the classroom.
“As a parent I am always kept
fully informed of my son’s progress which
demonstrates the high expectations
Ladywood School has.”

Fulfilling your child’s learning potentialthrough exceptional teaching!Challenging your child
to succeed in every area…
At Ladywood the creative curriculum and the
opportunities for learning which take place outside
the classroom are highly valued.
Our children have achieved huge success in musical and artistic activities.
We have a music specialist that works in school for one day per week,
ensuring that all children have a rich and varied musical experience.
We also work closely with Bolton Music Service who provides
us with regular live music concerts. We encourage all our
children to take full advantage of artistic opportunities
and many children discover a great sense of
achievement in these areas.
Exciting, enriching activities!Children at Ladywood experience a range of activities that include: Creative dance
lessons culminating in a whole school performance, African drumming lessons,
football coaching from local teams, and visiting theatre groups.
Our children have even had their work exhibited at TATE Liverpool, a real
endorsement of the quality of our childrens’ work.
Parent partnershipsWe recognise and value the huge contribution that parents are able to make to their
child’s overall education and development. The home / school diaries allow for effective
communication. These record events and achievements and provide valuable information for
parents about their child. Equally valuable is the information that parents share with class
teams so they are aware of any issues.
The creativity at Ladywood
is fantastic! Children can express
themselves through this mean.

Expanding minds, opening possibilities!
“Learning opportunities are exciting, often involving visitors
coming into school or pupils going out of school.”

Discovering opportunities and nurturing new skills
All of our children require a more
specialist approach to their learning.
For our children with a diagnosis
of Autistic Spectrum Disorder
(ASD) we offer a higher level of
structure and predictability within
their classroom environment.
In addition to this, communication underpins all approaches
to learning and augmentative forms of communication are
utilised such as Picture Exchange Communication System
(PECs), signing and symbol support.
The communication with
the class team is amazing and very
rewarding when it comes to relaying
information to and from school.
Kath Kay, Parent
Specialist resources At Ladywood we strive to meet the needs of the whole child.
In doing so, we greatly value the input of a wide range of other
professionals who work with our children both in school and at
home. We have a range of professionals who are either based in
school or visit on a regular basis. These are:
• Speech and Language Therapists
• School Nurse
• Community Paediatrician
• Educational Psychologist
• Teachers for hearing and Visually Impaired
• Physiotherapists
• Occupational Therapists
We also work closely with colleagues from Social Care, Learning
Disabilities Nursing Team, Bridges and many other agencies who
support our children and their families.
Healthy food, healthy attitudes!Pupils may bring a packed lunch to school or purchase
a school dinner. We believe that a healthy balanced
diet facilitates successful learning and therefore
encourage our pupils to adopt a healthy approach to
eating. Vegetarian or special diets can be provided
if parents or doctors request one. Staff are also
experienced in working with children who experience
sensory or feeding issues and are able to offer
appropriate support.
Give your child the future they deserve!
“The reception classes provide an excellent introduction to school for
children with a wide range of learning difficulties, including autism.”
