Conceptual Statement:
Any architectural solution to be implemented in the city of Venice requires a highly thought out response.Since the urban fabric of the city is extremely complicated and is dictated by centuries of Venetianheritage. Any site available for construction in the city of Venice cannot be treated as its own entity but a piece of a complex fabric that surrounds it.
One of the most successful urban spaces that the city of Venice contains is its Squares and Piaz-zas. Through time these squares have acted as central parts of the city which dictate social inter-actions between the locals and the visitors. The site for the Athletic Center is an important public junction where the density of pedestrian traffic is immense. Such a situation calls for a design solution which acts as an urban space/square to harbor this pedestrian traffic or channels it through the site into the greater Venice area
Programmatically the center is geared mostly towards the locals of Venice though it still incorpo-rates program which would invite the visitors towards the site. Since the essence of Venice is its open spaces and its urban fabric, a design strategy which offers a highly inviting public space is to be realized.

Use of Wooden vertical fins on the western facade to limit deep sun exposure from heating up the building
Operable windows in the two major halls to create natural ventilation of air during desirable weather. And to exhaust moisture out from the pool
Roof garden condition on the flat roof to keep the roof from reaching high temperatures. And to keep the building cool.
Passive Strategies
Fragmented Parti allows for cross ventilation of air through the site, all year round.

The architectural heritage of Venice is on the brink of extinction. With recent studies suggesting the city is sinking at a phenominal pace. Combined with the Aqua Alta (seasonal flooding) the architecture of the city is under grave threat. The mass of water, in the proposed design, sits on the ground acting as a beacon of light, attracting visitors and locals. Moreover, it preaches the idea that nature which has become Venices greatest threat can be controlled using todays technology letting the city thrive.
Water, thus becomes the soul of the design.
