This is an opportunity for students to show what educational outcomes they are achieving in order for our teachers to tailor classroom learning to their needs in the future. Many other exciting things have been happening around the school this week including the Australian Defence Force visiting to speak to our students in Years 9 – 12 about possible career choices, The Land Newspaper doing a photo shoot with our Agriculture students and furry friends at the Agriculture Farm and the RAGE program commencing in secondary for boys to assist them in life management. The biggest improvement to our school this week though is the beginnings of our Indigenous Firepit and Garden. You may have noticed the large logs on the grassed area near the Canada Street entrance. We eagerly wait in anticipation for the final product and are so excited at the potential prospects available to complement our Indigenous education program. A big thank you to Ms Bellamy who has been working extremely hard to get this space ready in time for Reconciliation Week. Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea Year 9/10 Food Technology Students were asked to bake biscuits to serve to the visitors in Primary for their Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea. Students then presented the biscuits and served the parents on the day. We used a basic recipe and baked almost 300 chocolate chip, freckle and jam drop biscuits. Tara-Jane Ireland

Pig Youth Show On Wednesday 8th May, the Year 9/10 Agriculture students travelled to Bedgerebong to participate in the Pig Youth Show. This is the first time we have attended and it was a very fascinating and eye opening experience. Students participated in workshops from Parading Pigs to washing them for show, ultra-sounding, AI, disease management of feral pigs, cuts of meat and even got to watch a pig be divided into these by a butcher. The purpose of the excursion was to conclude our topic that we did in Term 1 on Pig Production prior to the delivery of our pigs to the abattoirs in two weeks’ time. A massive thankyou to Krystal Fyfe and Ryan Alchin for donating our Pigs 'Peppa' and 'George' and the wheat we have been feeding them for the past 8 weeks. Tara-Jane Ireland

Year 9/10 Agriculture On Friday Year 9/10 Agriculture students took delivery of a very exciting item - our Archibull which we have fondly named 'CowBoom' until further notice. The students will be participating in the 2019 Archibull prize as part of their course and are very excited for the school and wider community to become a part of the project. We have been allocated a topic 'Grains' and the students have to design an artwork incorporating this topic and the overarching statement 'Feeding, Clothing and Powering a Hungry Nation is a Shared Responsibility'. We have been teamed with a Young Farming Champion, who we are lucky enough is a 'Local' - Emma Ayliffe. Emma will work with the students and staff to help us design our artwork. Along with Emma's help we have asked Zoe Hayward to come and assist us to develop our artwork in her 'spare time'. Year 12 student, Clint, has designed us a logo to go along with anything we post about our Archibull. The cow will visit the primary and secondary classrooms in the coming weeks to create excitement for the project throughout the school. Along with the artwork the students have to create an animation or infographic and a blog.

We have started Blogging and if you are interested in following along please head to https://lccsarchibull2019.weebly.com/.

The 9/10 Archibull Team and Miss Ireland would also like to say a huge thankyou to Brian Williams Transport of Forbes for kindly donating their services and delivering 'CowBoom' to us in one piece. It was one very interesting topic of conversation for Miss Ireland to attempt to organise transport of a lifesize fibreglass cow and these guys donated their time for free!!! Tara-Jane Ireland

"Lamb-sitting" for Mr Ireland The Ag students have been feeding the poddy lambs at the Ag Plot. They will be returned to “Allonvale” to enjoy the lucerne paddock when they can survive on their own.

Visiting Performance – Trading Places We have a performance visiting our school on Monday 27th May 20198. It is for Years 3-8 only. The performance is called Trading Places. Ther performer uses circus skills and physical theatre to explore the diversity of life styles in Australia. The cost of the performance is $5.00. There is no cost to students who have paid school fees. Lyn Ervin Land Newspaper visit Today the photographer came from the Land newspaper to take photos of our students with all the projects happening in Agriculture. She took photos of our lambs that are off to Dubbo Show for the Hoof & Hook competition. Also of the pigs we have been feeding that will be slaughtered in a few weeks. The students are using the meat from the pigs and lambs to run a “Paddock to Plate” in conjunction with Food Technology later in the year. Keep an eye on The Land for our “famous” students!
