Bridging the Gaps Brings Health Care to Many in Erie

Bridging the Gaps places health professional students at various community sites in order to provide service to underserved populations while training community responsive health and social service professionals. BTG seeks to provide meaningful service in a system of care that is often unresponsive to the needs of vulnerable populations.

The students provided approximately 4500 hours of community service at Erie community sites.

LECOM Mentors Provide Role Models For Erie Children

The LECOM Mentoring Club is in its ninth year of operation providing role models, academic help, and health/safety education to underprivileged children aged 4 to 18 who reside at the Erie Heights Apartments near the campus and other housing complexes of the Housing Authority of the City of Erie.

The Mentoring Club works in conjunction with the YMCA of Erie which manages a Reading Center and recreational facilities at Erie Heights which are open from 1 to 9 PM daily. The Mentoring Club presently staffs the Reading Center 5 days a week, 3 hours a day throughout the school year to provide teacher-directed assistance to students, read stories to children from the 1,000 volume library (which is periodically rotated by the Erie County Library) and attend YMCA-sponsored movies with the children.
