Each year, it has become a tradition for Mayberry Fine Art to curate a fund raising art auction to benefit the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foun-dation. An enjoyable part of the Life Savers Dinner event, it has been held annually at the Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club. Sadly, Covid 19 has prevented the event from taking place this year.

We have, however, devised a plan to provide supporters of the Lake of the Woods Hospital with their annual art fix, while providing a great opportu-nity to donate to this very worthy cause. Mayberry Fine Art has assembled an online art exhibition, illustrated in the pages of this PDF catalogue.

Artworks are fairly priced, with a minimum 33% and up to 100% donation of the amount going towards the LOTW District Hospital Foundation.

The sale begins with the receipt of your first email and closes August 31, 2020. Payments for all artwork may be made to the Lake of the Woods Dis-trict Hospital Foundation, care of Jess Rheault. Email Jess at [email protected] or call her at 807.468,9861 ext 2419.

This painting by A.Y. Jackson was part of the personal art collection of Winnipeg sculptor, Leo Mol. A gift to Mol from Jackson himself, it was paintedwhile on a sketching trip they took together in theearly 1960s.

LIONEL M. STEPHENSON (1854 - 1907)

Born in France and educated in an English military college, Stephenson immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. He found his calling as a painter of the Upper Fort Garry the settlement that became known as Win-nipeg. He executed many paintings of Upper and Lower Fort Garry and surrounding area, for sale to the troops who had arrived from the East to fight in the Riel Rebellion of 1885. He died in Winnipeg in 1907.

This group of Lake of the Woods scenes were painted around 1881, perhaps as Stephenson made his way west to his destination of Winnipeg. The only other known paintings by the artist, of this region, are in museum col-lections. These five works depicting historic views of Lake of the Woods are a very rare and thrilling find. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
