IDOE NAMES FOUR STAR SCHOOLS…this week the state of Indiana designated Lake Street Elementary School an Indiana 4 Star School for 2013-2014…WOO HOO!!! To achieve this designation, a school must be in the top 25th percentile of schools in two ISTEP-Plus-based categories, have an “A” grade in the state’s accountability system, and be accredited by the Indiana Department of Education. Last night we inducted 27 new fourth and fifth students into Lake Street Elementary School’s Chapter of the National Elemen-tary Honor Society. See page 2 for the list. Next week (5/4 - 5/8) is Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. We have some fun days planned for next week to show appreciation working under our theme of “You Brighten Our Days”. The activi-ties are mainly funded from monies raised throughout the year with PTO’s continued fundraising efforts and also from donations received from our Potluck Committee. Thank-you to all of you for your contribution in making this possible to acknowledge the awe-some staff!

Work on the 2015-2016 PTO Budget is underway. If you have any budgetary suggestions, please contact PTO at above email address to make your voice heard.

Notice - The Annual Ellendale Farm Subdivision Sale has been CANCELLED due to safety concerns from our PTO. While we are not sure if someone else will take over the responsibility of organ-izing this event, we do know it will not be under the direction of our PTO. While we have enjoyed hosting the event over the years and appreciated the donations that went towards Lake Street’s PTO, we are at the point of realization that our event has become more than we can handle. We have some safety issues concerning overcrowding. We worry about emergency vehicles being able to quickly respond to issues with such overcrowded streets. We are concerned about issues of road and shopper rage as seen in the past. We are disconcerted over the number of homes that partici-pate without paying the donation fee. We were saddened last year at the number of promotional vinyl signs that were stol-len. Your understanding is most appreciated; please help spread the word.

As proposed at the 4/14/15 PTO meeting and will be voted on at the 5/12/15 meeting…”Any residual playground fund monies will revert back to the general fund after purchases approved by vote at the 3/10/15 general meeting are acquired.”
