Williams Lake Fishing is a popular pastime at all local lakes, but its especially beloved at Williams Lake. The Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife introduces about 400 extra rainbow trout each year, making it one of the best places in the state to visit on opening day.

Hauser Lake Practically on the Washington-Idaho border, Hauser Lake was originally known as Mud Lake. The lake was renamed for Montanas Governor Samuel T. Hauser, friend and business partner of local developer Daniel Corbin; just dont get Hauser Lake confused with Hauser Reservoir, or you may end up in Helena, Mont.

Diamond Lake Theres no public beach at Diamond Lake, but private cabin rentals are prevalent along the shore. And you can always bring your boat to a public launch to enjoy a day of skiing, tubing or sailing. During the winter, the frozen lake is also a popular destination for skating and ice shing.

Banks Lake When you visit this man-made lake lled with water from Franklin D. Roosevelt Reservoir, check out Steamboat Rock State Park on an island at the north end of the lake. Enjoy a hike up the unique geological formation, then cool off with a swim along the 50,000 feet of freshwater shoreline.

Loon LakeDont forget your sunscreen if you plan on playing in the water at Loon Lake this summer; the cool water can make you forget the high temperatures. If you hit the lake on Independence Day, you might catch a glimpse of an informal boat parade with lake residents boats decorated for the celebration.

Spirit LakeSpirit Lake is 4.5 miles long and 1 mile wide, and, at 4,500 feet above sea level, is considered the highest small local lake and only one of two lakes in the world with a naturally sealed bottom. Visitors enjoy shing, swimming and taking in the colorful town which is home to the White Horse, Idahos oldest bar.

Newman Lake Theres a lot to love about this getaway northeast of Spokane, especially the surrounding trees. Newman Lake was named after William Newman, a former British subject who joined the U.S. Army and was an escort for the Boundary Commission. The lake is known as a tranquil area for swimming, boating and camping.

Sullivan Lake If you like shing, youll love Sullivan Lake, the Colville National Forests largest natural lake. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife keeps Sullivan open all year, so theres never a bad time to try to haul in a decent selection of brown and rainbow trout, kokanee and burbot. Non-anglers also enjoy two public campgrounds and a National Scenic Trail.

Fish LakeFish Lake underwent a rehabilitation in 2012 and now has an improving population of brook trout. Internal combustion engines are banned, creating a tranquil experience in thiseasy-to-access waterway. Its surrounded by a 67-acre county park and is at the end of the Fish Lake Trail system. The Columbia Plateau State Park borders it, offering more hiking options.
