It was our very first day in Intro to Computing , when we got this assignment.Everyone was superman that day and gave ideas which were beyond the scope of

logic..! for example one idea was to dry up the lake so that underlined structure

might be visible, one more was that we should call for army submarines to check

what is actually underline structure ,some of us also proposed some logical ideas as

well, in short, every idea was admired and given equal weightage that day.

Everybody took it as a kind of shuggal and they thought thats all.

After that in every class of ITC the assignment that we named as shuggal was

discussed as project. Now we realized that yes we have to do it. Groups were

formed, friends group changed into project group. Yet it was still shuggle for us

because we were new and was unaware of this everyday percentage. It was good to

go for Kayaking under the name of project thesis, when adding caption on kayaking

photos taking project thesis, when telling family that we are doing a project.

Also, I was a kind of satisfaction for our self that finally we are in professional

studies, doing a kind of practical!

Months passed in same way until, we were given with deadline to submit our first

evaluation. So, a race began. We started thinking in more logical way and started so

called project thesis. Now we had only kayaks, measurement tape and some ropes

no superman neither gadgets of James Bond which were discussed on first day. It

was good in one sense because everyone became equal. Also, it was so, due to a

reason that it was not the assessment of technology, but it was test of idea and

    team work.

So in our first real thesis for first viva we got our hands dirty and made a simplestrategy. We took readings of depth on different reference points. No doubt it

was not enough to plot graph, yet we can to know a rough estimate of maximum and

minimum depth. With this we came to podium and gave our viva.

For final submission we made a new plan so that we can we can plot graph on excel.

We started reading with (x, y, z) components. We marked different points outside

the lake at periodic distance. Also we marked the point from where we took this

    reading.

Just before few days of deadline a new concept dropped in which was that we were

restricted to plot graph on python. Nobody was expecting this so, it was a kind of

shock, because interpolation was a totally new concept and we just had a 30 min

discussion of its logic and pseudo code that unfortunately was very vague. Except

few, everyone didnt understand how to do it and the worst thing was that there

were nobody to teach once again or listen or problems.

Our work of two months was now nothing because this all was dependent on codes

which were totally new for us and even few codes which are used in graphing were

told to us just before few days of deadline

    After midterm:

Now we had the difficult mode on in this game. To counter this problem of three

co-ordinates, we took a reference point A on the point we began. The x, y, z at that

point was 0, 0, 0. We took y as the distance we covered into the lake, we took x asthe distance left/right of the reference point and z was the depth.

    ROLES:

ALI AKBAR: He was the one, who was instructing us from the outside, signaling us

where to stop. He was very important as his height enabled us to see him even

further into the lake and limited the use of the stick theory which was difficult

ALI KUMAIL: the two Alis were together. This Ali had the duty of the measuring

of the distance from the reference point. He instructed the other Ali to stop when

the interval was equaled to the previous one.

SAAD YOUSAF: He was the spotter. His job was to look out for the signal and

order the boat to be stopped so that his mate could take the reading. When the

reading was taken, he would take out the measuring tape and measure the stick.

TAIMUR SIDDIQUI: he was the one with the stick in the boat. His job was to

wait for Saads instruction when Saad had seen the signal from the two Alis. He

struck the stick into the lake on the signal and waited for it to hit the ground.

The figure was a rough sketch of our idea. The big dot represents the reference

point i.e. 0, 0, 0. This figure was to verify the previous statement of what the x, y,

    z represent.

When we stopped at point D, we dipped in the long stick we had and waited for itto hit the under ground. Then we retrieved the stick into the boat again and the

second team member measured the fresh water mark till the end of the stick.

So now you come to the question, what the hell are the other two doing?

Well how were we supposed to know how much x had we moved? Thus the other two

were at the shore, giving us the signals to stop at equal distance. This only worked

up to a limit which was 250 feet into the lake. After that, we used another stick

and fixed it into the lake at one point, and now that became our new referencepoint. We carried this until we reached the other end. Here is another description.
