Whether you are a member or a friend, we need you to attend. Pleasemark your calendar now to attend this important meeting.

PLEDGES

Thanks to most of you for completing your pledge forms and turning them in. If you have nottaken care of this, we would very much appreciate hearing from you soon. It helps put togethera more accurate picture of next year’s budget if we have as much information as possible. Thanks for addressing this.

SUMMER SERVICES

We need your participation this summer at our Sunday services. In the summer, we ask ourmembers and friends to make presentations. These are not difficult and we are very open aboutwhat you could present. Tell us about an area of special interest, a good book you’ve read, agreat vacation you’ve taken, or some other item you’d like to present. Our group loves to beeducated about any number of subjects and we know that you have something interesting youcould share with us. Plan for at least a ten minute presentation with some time afterward forquestions and discussion. Either sign the schedule on the table in the back of the sanctuary orlet Dan Fischer know which Sunday would be best for your presentation. Thanks for participating.

The day-to-day life of our fellowship is the glue that holds our spiritual community together. UnitarianUniversalism approaches the more "secular" aspects of fellowship life with the same religious intent as it'sworship. Our religious education classes, adult activities groups, community volunteerism and buildingfacilities committees are essential aspects of our spiritual work. We believe it is our deeds, not our creeds, which are most important. Volunteer opportunities abound! Please consider signing up for coffee service, greeter, shoveling, or any other activity or job that helps to keep our fellowship moving forward and runningsmoothly. Volunteer sign up sheets are in the coat room.

"We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love.”Mother Teresa -

Every day we have people helping the Fellowship in ways that allow our community to thrive. Whether youare a board member, on a committee, you make coffee, do dishes, vacuum, shovel snow, rack leaves, plan agarden, help coordinate a service or you do one of the other countless tasks, the time and talents you share

is incredibly important for our Fellowship community. Please know you are immensely appreciated.

Green Living On Behalf of the EarthGLOBE

The Next GLOBE ("Green Living on behalf of the Earth") meeting will be Sunday May 5th after service. Theagenda includes planning for our next "Earth Day Every Day" movie at the end of May- tentatively "Fresh," afilm about the consequences of transforming our food system from an agricultural to an industrial model-everything from contamination to obesity. We'll also work on summer planning, UUA suggestedprogramming, and a summer Sunday presentation. Everyone is welcome to be part of our experience within"the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part." Your input matters!

The following is for those of you who missed our "Green Tips" in each Sunday's Order of Service:

4/7/13: This first week in April has been Asbestos Awareness Week, and the message is still true: breathingin asbestos, a known carcinogen, can be harmful to your health. A home asbestos inspection done prior toremodeling or demolition can reduce exposure. Learn more by visiting DNR's asbestos pagehttp://dnr.wi.gov/topic/Demo/Asbestos.html.

4/14/13: Spring… Mud… Laundry… Running your wash machine with full loads of laundry reduces overallenergy use. Using cold or cooler water temperatures also uses less energy.

4/21/13: In honor of poetry month: Use fluorescents and LEDs; Not incandescent - and you will see; We’ll useless energy! We will succeed!

4/28/13: Anxious to start your yard work? Planting trees is a great way to keep our air clean. Trees take incarbon dioxide and release fresh clean oxygen. Planting trees near homes can also reduce heating andcooling costs throughout the year. Visit www.ArborDay.org to learn more.

LUUF Gardens are in full planting mode!Do you have a spare plant, one that needs to be divided? Do you want to contribute in creating beauty righthere in our own backyard? Consider transplanting a plant from your garden, or purchasing one to donate.

Master Gardener and LUUF member Kari Alice, has created a garden plan for our gardens, which includes allplants needed, locations and design to bring us color to our Medication, Music and Children's garden.

Please see the board display in the vestibule, (coat room) to sign up for donating a plant, two, three, or morefor our gardens. Kari Alice has provided location sticks, which have been placed and identifies each plants

new home. Bring your plant donation, a shovel and find your plants new home in our garden.

We will also be in need of garden sculptures, art and annuals, so look for more information coming soonabout the gardens. Watch them bloom and take shape and show their colors.

In some ways, Mother’s Day is an easy holiday, right? Lots of people have important “mother” figures in theirlife, for whom they can find something in the greeting card aisle, buy flowers, or make breakfast in bed. Wecelebrate these women because we love them. Setting aside a special day for them acknowledges the critical andoften underappreciated role they play in our lives and in our communities.

And yet, some experiences of motherhood aren’t so easily found in the greeting card aisle, such as families withqueer or trans or two mothers. It might be impossible to make her breakfast in bed if she’s incarcerated or recentlydeported. While many of us already celebrate those women who raised us (whether she was our nanny, ourgrandmother, our aunt, our foster mother), how do we acknowledge the experiences of women who wantedchildren but couldn’t, due to economic circumstance, medical condition, unjust adoption rights, or any otherreason? How do we stand on the side of love with all those who “mother” and their families?

Mother's Day was originally founded as an antiwar rallying cry by Unitarian Julia Ward Howe. This historyreminds us that Mother’s Day is more than a day for flowers and pancakes. It’s a call to honor the resiliency of allthose who mother, especially those who bear the brunt of hurtful policies or who are weighed down by stigma inour culture. It’s an opportunity to take action to create conditions that enable all families to thrive.

This year, transform your Mother's Day into “Mama’s Day:” a multicultural, justice-oriented celebration of allthose who "mama." For the first time ever, the UUA has partnered with Strong Families, to offer beautiful e-cardsand resources for advocacy, worship, and more. Visit http://www.uua.org/reproductive/action/284636.shtml formore information.

IMPORTANT LUUF PROJECTS CONTINUE -- PLEASE HELP!

ALL I WANT FOR THE NEW YEAR (and beyond.........)is LUUF mementos and keepsakes by Ginney Finnel

During one of his recent visits to our fellowship, Arthur Thexton suggested we add to our October "Remember theSaints" service a ceremonial reading aloud of the names of the departed members and friends of our fellowship. Thisyear we paid homage to Vince Holschbach, Katherine Helgeland and George Edwards, who left us far too soon. Wealso remembered past members and friends, including Shirley Goeters, Bob Potrykus, Olga Radulaski, WinnifredSpring, and others.

In a further effort to preserve the personal history of our fellowship, Zoe Alexander and I have a plan tocreate and assemble a photo album / scrap book of LUUF memorabilia. We want to preserve our connection to thepeople no longer with us as well as to meaningful events and happenings related to the life of our fellowship and itshistory and mission here in Manitowoc.

So, please, help us by sharing copies of anything you may have in your possession that will further this cause. Thingslike:

Photos of departed members and friends; Photos of special events (new member recognitions, moving day(s), concerts, picnics and parties; Photos taken at our former homes - Washington House in Two Rivers and our building on 8th Street in

Manitowoc; Newspaper articles about the fellowship or fellowship events, obituaries, etc.

Please contact Ginny Finnel by phone 755-2689 or email at [email protected] if you have questions oranything to contribute now or at anytime in the future. Or, simply leave your items in an envelope with my name onit on the information table at the back of the fellowship. I will be happy to photocopy and return any original itemsyou wish to retain. Thank you!

"A person with no sense of the past is a person who is a stranger to his or her own roots...We are inheritors of the history that hasmade us what we are..." -Anthony O'Hear.

"The poetry of history lies in the quasi-miraculous fact that once...on this familiar spot of ground, walked other men and women, asactual as we are today...". - G.M. Trevelyan

"Of all the intellectual pursuits, history is the most supremely useful. That is why people crave it and need ever more of it." -Simon Jenkins.

We will also need outdoor art for our gardens.

Please contact Kim Everett to arrange for art rotation and display -- 755-8430, or email at: [email protected]

GAME NIGHT!

Our monthly Board Game Night continues Wednesday, May 8th. Bring your favorite game andsnack or join in with what others bring. There will be plenty of laughs, games, and snacks toshare.

**********************************************************************************************************************Don't forget meditation on Sunday evenings at LUUF at 6:30

Relax, reflect and realignFor a calming start to you week.

The goal of meditation is to bring inner peace within oneself and the world in a positive and spiritual way.The world may not always be a peaceful place and within every soul there is some form of tension and stress.

It is therefore essential to create positive and peaceful thoughts to bring peace to our mind.Meditation is one of the best methods to bring about transformation and nurture the natural qualities within.

"Peace is not always the absence of conflict, but the ability to cope with it"

Would you enjoy a casual gathering around a meal, for eight (8) members or friends? "Circle Suppers" are awonderful activity we are adopting from other UU fellowships. These dinners are simple and fun--a potluck ata host's home, or a gathering at a restaurant--and are a great way to get better acquainted with Fellowshipfriends. We are looking for gracious hosts and eager participants for three (3) Circle Suppers to be held inMay.

We'd like to hold the Circle Suppers between May 1-18. With hosts and dates, we'll post sign-up sheets April14 & 21 in the vestibule for participants, who should pick just one dinner to attend. If these go well, we willhold more Circle Suppers in the future!

We have one host but need two more. The role of the host is to select a date, then to coordinate a potluck inyour home, or to select a restaurant and make a reservation. You also communicate arrangements with yourparticipants by email or phone. If you are interested in being a host, please contact Jean Biegun [email protected]. The role of participants is to bring a dish (if a potluck) or pay for your own meal (if arestaurant).

Join the fun and fellowship at our spring "Circle Suppers"!

Easter FreedomJean Biegun

Easter for me is the stone at the tombWhere destruction of good seemed set,

Silenced, contained.I'd like to have sat there expectantly

Behind an olive tree waitingFor the moment

Light called to lightand the giant stone rolled away.

Each of us bears crosses,Knows that blow of nailsHammered to the heart,

That dying of our light within.

Yet when true light shines,The crucified stir:

The greater light quickens the dim,And mean bricks of world hurt crumble.

Your brave light guides mineAnd mu often stumbling steps,

My struggle with the dark. When we join together,

Our stronger beam glows:A beacon of love and beauty,

Freedome of hope,Justice, healing, and peace.

Stone roll from every tombn every town heart and land

When Easter light rises.Blessed be our eternal light.
