Senior parents, this will be a very busy and emotional time for you. Support your students. Their public school years are coming to a close and soon they will be moving on. PARENTS: PLEASE NOTIFY SCHOOL OF FAMILY CHANGES It is really important that the school be notified of catastrophic experiences in your student’s lives affecting their performance at school (i.e. serious illness of a family member, or expected/unexpected death of a parent or sibling, etc.) so teachers are aware

and can be more sensitive to that student during this difficult time.

REMINDER to PARENTS When parents email teachers, it is helpful if you put your student’s name in the subject line. Many emails are stopped by our junk mail/spam filtering system and your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated should you not receive a reply. Follow-up

calls are helpful. In addition, we encourage parents to please understand that teachers are not permitted by law to share confidential information regarding students over email—phone calls are better for in-depth conversations regarding student performance.

VOICE MAIL SYSTEM LHS teachers can be reached by voice mail. To access the system dial 216-227-5701. After the prompt, enter the teacher’s four digit voice mail box number, followed by the pound sign. You can also spell out name on phone pad if you don’t know the teacher’s four

digit mail box number is located next to their name on your student’s schedule.

April Notes from Lakewood Music Boosters March has been a flurry of activity for most of the music groups in all of the schools. OMEA contests, concerts, and festivals dotted the calendar and provided musical enter-tainment for the community. Congratulations to all the students and directors for your hard work and wonderful performances! April brings a lull in concerts, but Music Boosters provides you with two opportunities to show your support for Lakewood’s outstanding music program. Our annual plant sale be-gins, [just in time for Mother’s Day!] with flowers, foliage, and vegetables provided by Dean’s Greenhouse. Last year’s sale netted us well over $1500, and we’d like to surpass that amount this year. Please see the attached flyer and pass it on to all of your friends and neighbors! Boosters will also host a night at Chipotle. 50% of sales from that evening will go to the Boosters, so we hope to see all of you there! Please see the Lakewood City Schools’ web-site, drop down to the Performing Arts page, and check the information that will be posted there for the April date and time. Thank you, parents, friends, and neighbors, for your continued generosity in each Civic concert’s 50/50 raffle. Many of you have donated the money won BACK to the Music Boosters, and we thank you for your donation. Sue Gallovic, 2ndVP, has garnered won-derful parent volunteers who sell those tickets as well as the event tickets, and Alexis De-Baltzo has been our concessions coordinator. A big Booster shout-out to both of those ladies for their hard work at our events! If you are not yet a member, the end of April is the membership deadline. In order for your child to receive a scholarship for summer study or music camp, you MUST be a Mu-sic Booster member. Membership levels begin at $10, a small investment for our Lake-wood children’s continued success. Please join us in the LHS band room for our next meeting at 7:30pm on April 4th. CENSUS SUCCESS! Census data has been released and thanks to the hard work of many civic organizations, including Lakewood City Schools, Lakewood has retained its federal entitlement status by staying above the 50,000 mark in population. The official number of residents is 52,131. Lakewood retaining its entitlement status was critical for our schools as money from this allocation goes toward important programs for our students such as Title I, Head Start, special and adult education and college grants and loans. Thanks to the team work of so many of Lakewood’s non-profits, our school parent –teacher organizations, and of course, the City of Lakewood, many of our students’ needs will continue to be served. The collabora-tion between all with a stake in the outcome of the Census underscores the great partnerships we have in Lakewood. The Census results are just another example that proves that strong communities build strong schools. Thank you to everyone who made sure they were counted!

NOTE!!!! On April 8,2011 verification forms will be printed and mailed home for parental review. All forms need to be returned to their counselor by April 15,2011 with parent and student signatures. Mike Francu Guidance Counselor

A note from the Nurse……………………………………….Kristina Purdy RN Healthy Life Every day at LHS some students follow life-styles that place them at risk for future health problems, including Type 2 diabetes. New cases of Type 2 diabetes have doubled in the past 10 years. If not well managed, diabetes can lead to devastating and costly complications, including cardiovascular disease, blindness, kidney failure, and amputations.
