    President's Message

    Happy 2013 New Year!

A great time was had by all who attended our December 2012 Holiday Appetizer Party. DawnWestfalls home was beautifully decorated. Members were in awe seeing her creativity demonstratedin each room. The outdoor Christmas lights lit up the walkway which was lined with live poinsettiasthat were leading to Dawns front door. These poinsettias along with many other donations wereprizes that members and guests won throughout the evening. We collected around $250 from ourpoinsettia ticket sales. Many times we visited the appetizer table for refills of the scrumptious varietiesof foods. Barbs famous Poinsettia Champagne Punch and Anns delicious Holiday Punch recipeswere a hit again this year. Suzanne Neal had organized a holiday card signing table for us to writenotes to DKGs World Fellowship recipients. Debbie Reynolds displayed all the cute pictures of whenwe were a tad bit younger and set up a contest where the first person to correctly identify the most, had the first pick from the donated gifts. I lucked out and won: otherwise, I wouldnt have wonanything until the last drawing. I was excited to pick the first poinsettia and am still enjoying the

beauty of it. Christi Chrisman led us in Christmas Carols and we all enjoyed singing, relaxing, yaking, visiting, eating and drinking responsibly. Thanks to Dawn and her husband for being such gracioushosts.

Your Lambda Sigma officers met mid December for an executive board meeting at the HoustonJunior League. We missed Dale as we were sorry to hear that her father had passed away theevening before. Having more time for socializing at our meetings was the consensus of all present. We definitely saw at the holiday party how we enjoy visiting. Therefore, it will be more important forus to pay closer attention to the information presented in our newsletters and minutes as I will try toshorten meetings by not repeating most of the same information. We already have the minutesattached to the newsletters for you to read before meetings and in the future we plan to also have thetreasurers report available to view. Harriet will be consolidating our meeting minutes by recording

highlights which will allow for easier reading. Your officers and committee chairs have worked hardduring this first semester in office. We appreciate your patience as we have all had to learn what ourjobs entailed and to understand the needs and desires of our chapter members along with being ableto incorporate requests from Alpha State and from our International Society. During the exec meeting,we filled out a chapter wellness report and found our chapter to be in high standing. One area ofconcern, though, is the need to offer membership to more outstanding educators. Debbie has startedworking on the Annie Award and officers together reviewed points for the Pace Award which will bementioned at the January meeting.

January 2013 is the beginning of a fresh start, a clean slate, a new year. Now is the time if youhavent already, to mark your calendars with dates for upcoming meetings and other planned events.Do you have a prospective member that you would like to bring to our January meeting? Time is

running out to turn in their name and information form that needs to be submitted to Julie Gehring.Think about going to state convention in Austin and or southwest conference in Branson, Missouri.Registration forms will soon be available on our Society website. Surf the Texas State and the Societywebsites regularly to garner information.

But most of all, reset and rejuvenate yourself and look forward to an exciting year ahead.

    Appreciatively,Linda
