Lanark has whole heaps of events and entertainment and happenings going on all the time, and often we never hear about them...until its too late. So everyone thought that it would

be a good idea to bring all those events and entertainments and happenings together so that they

could be presented in a way that everyone could get to know about them all... in time! This leaflet/brochure should have almost everything thats going on in the town from 21 November until Christmas Eve, from the Winter Market to the Panto, from Late Night Opening in our shops to the Horse Parade and Taste of Lanark, from carols and music to arts and dancing, from the Memorial Hall events to New Lanark events to Church events - and lots lots more.YOU are invited to come and join in the festivities its YOU who make the whole festival, YOU who give it the festive atmosphere, YOU who make the whole thing worthwhile...and if YOU all support this first organised Winterfest, we hope it will become a bigger and bigger annual event in the Lanark calendar!

    ENJOY!

I am extremely pleased that a number of groups in the Town have got together to bring a festival of fun in Lanark and New Lanark over a 3 week period in Winter. This is just the start and I hope we get a good feedback from people in the area. A lot of effort has gone into the programme and I hope we can get the backing from the Town and surrounding villages to enable us to repeat this in the Spring.

Mickah Wallace from legendary film The Commitments continues to spread the gospel of soul, taking up where the iconic movie left off, and in soulsational style!

Just like the movie, this live stage show sees a splendidly-cast group of

He has traversed the world spreading the word of Otis Reading, Wilson Pickett and the sound of sweet soul music live in concert as well as performing alongside James Brown, BB King, Dennis Edwards of The Temptations, Dan Ackroyd and many more!

If youre a fan of the film, a lover of real soul music or simply an aficionado of great nights out: signed, souled, delivered this is the show youve been waiting for...

    Saturday 21st November

Lights on for ChristmasLanark High Street, FREE

It might seem a bit contradictory to suggest that the first Lanark Winter Festival will be bigger, bonnier and better than ever before, but let me explain! Many of the component parts of our Festival have been on the go for many years now, including the Christmas Market and Lights On Event, which kicks off the Winter Festival on Saturday 21st November. This is a flexible date because our lights are installed by SLC who provide this service for every community in the county and so we must await their timetable for these events before setting our date. This we are happy to do because in the process SLC also provide us with many added in-kind benefits that contribute much to making this day the consistently huge success it always is. The Lanimer Queen and Santa Claus will switch on the Christmas

Lights at 4.45pm, bringing this wonderful event to a close, but Im getting ahead of myself!

The High Street is sealed off in the wee small hours after the last merry reveller has ambled his/her way home from the office shindig! By 10am the High Street is awash with a wide variety of traders stalls catering for every (legal) taste and preference. On display will be exquisite wines; gourmet

foods; delightfull gifts; unique art; and much, much more. A long queue will form near the Tolbooth and will not lessen until

the last Arbroath Smokie has been devoured. A wealth of local talent including members of I.C.E., Lanark Panto, LAMS and many more will, as a prelude to a professional group of entertainers, perform all afternoon at the bottom of the High St, while a range of childrens amusements will be sited at the top.Santa and his elves will perambulate from top (3.45pm) to bottom (4.45pm) of the High Street, doling out sweets (its legal, we checked!), having a chat with many dozens of children and providing the opportunity for photo ops (and selfies) for all.

Try it for yourself! 10am to 2pm, RE:store, FREE

Pop along to The RE:store, 15 High Street Lanark 10:00 until 14:00 and try amazing Frenchic furniture paint products, free of charge.

MacBraveheart TWO : The Other Scottish Play7:30pm, Lanark Memorial Hall, 12/10 concession Rooted in the past of a dystopian pre-independence future - that means a minimalist set littered with industrial remnants and a broken toilet - Scotlands greatest heroes, Wallace, Bruce and Burns, are tempted by their inner demons to confront their outer Hebrides. Lust, power, treachery, betrayal...sorry, have I just given away the ending? This epic production exposes the true price of freedom - its not just something you can pick up in Lidls - whilst treading the fine line between dark, visceral theatre and disappearing up ones own backside!Differs script is fast-paced, punchy and foul-mouthed and keeps the laughs coming. The Scotsman Brilliantly written and delivered with perfect comic timing. Hilarious. The ListDiffer manages in well under an hour to lampoon Macbeth, Braveheart, Burns, Salmond, the independence movement, the language (You have to look at the bigger pilchard) and, with rampant anachronisms and modern references, the whole genre of historical drama. An uninterrupted delight! The StageTickets: 12.00/10.00 concession from 01555 667999 or www.sllcboxoffice.co.uk

    Monday 30th November

St Andrews Day Tea with Alastair McDonald1:30pm, Lanark Memorial Hall, 6

Needing no introduction to many, Alastair is one of Scotlands favourite showbiz personalities. A highly talented international performer, singer, song-writer,

recording artist and broadcaster, he is equally at home in a jazz club, folk club, variety show, theatre

or concert hall and is a well-known face on Scottish television. His concert programme can vary from a Scottish

historical ballad to a humorous music hall ditty, and from a Gaelic lament to a hand clapping American Negro Gospel song. Not mere versatility for its own sake, but rather a genuine desire to share some of the very best songs and personal favourites.

Following his sell out appearance at Lanark earlier this year we invite you to come along and celebrate St Andrews Day with a tea and cake in the company of a Scottish showbiz legend!

Pantomime is different! Indeed, among the many wonderful forms of the performing arts, pantomime is unique! Pantomime audiences enjoy the fun, laughter and music of the show as much as any audience. But they do so much more than that! At pantomime the audiences not only span the generations (age doesnt matter to the young at heart), they play a major part in the show as well! Pantomime audiences participate! (Oh Yes they do!).Lanark Panto Club is also unique! Here we have a large group of local amateurs, now spanning several generations, who annually put on a very professional show. This year that professional show is Jack & The Beanstalk. If youve been before, and thousands of you have, come back and be young at heart again. If you were brought as a child, bring along your own kids or grandkids now and let them experience the joy and laughter that you did as a child. If you havent been before, dont be a couch potato and come along this year! If youre going on a Caribbean Cruise and cant be there this year, put it on your bucket list for next year. We can guarantee one thing for sure; you wont regret it and youll go home younger and happier than you arrived!

PS: We are legally obliged to issue all newcomers with a formal health warning; Lanark Panto Club shows can be seriously addictive!

We seek groups of fun loving folk from far and wide to enter teams in our Silver Bell Soapbox Challenge. From young teenagers eager to grow up to the more mature but wannabee teenagers who resolutely refuse to grow up!

The event will be staged on Sunday 26th September 2016 down a 400 metre course (Lanark High Street) to finish - if they survive that long - at Lanark Cross. That is when those intrepid lunatics of Lanark Rugby Club, in partnership with the slightly saner, but seriously eccentric, members of Lanark Community Development Trust will launch this first annual event.

The concept and popularity of such events have been well established by the energy drinks company Red Bull in capital cities all over the world and we intend to emulate their success in Scotland in Lanark. For a flavour of the event, check out Red Bull Soapbox Races on youtube.

So! Are you a budding Lewis Hamilton? Have you the engineering skills to compete with Mercedes and Ferrari? Have you the imagination to create a themed entry? Have you the skill set to organise a bunch of happy-go-lucky extroverts into a team? Have you got any friends in the first place? Are they impervious to pain and humiliation?

All funds accruing by year three we hope will be shared equally by the two organisations. LRC will spend their share on the ongoing development of a School of Rugby at Colts Team at LGS. LCDT will allocate their share to the development of a Skate/BMX/Roller Blade Park in Lanark.

For further information and entry forms etc please contact;[email protected] and/or [email protected]

  • GET INVOLVED!We hope you enjoy Winterfest 2015, but we at LCDT are already looking ahead to Winterfest 2016 and we want you to be a part of it!

If you have a club, group, organisation or buisness and would like to participate in Winterfest 2016 either running workshops, events or selling your goods please get in touch with us at [email protected]

We are also looking for individuals to join us for craft fayres and events throughout the festival period. All we require is your name, a description of your craft and a contact e-mail.

Not only will this give you the oppertunity to be involved in Winterfest, but also in the popular Wallace Festival, which will now take place over three weeks in May 2016. Your inclusion in the programme is free, following Lanark Community Development Trusts vision to enhance our community through involvement in the arts, bringing together people from all walks of life and hopefully inspiring future generations.
