Rear seat

Secure the seat using the special low-er metal rings A positioned betweenrear backrest and cushion. The upperbelt (provided with the child’s seat)must be secured to the attachments Blocated in the rear part of the back-rest.

“Lane change” function To signal a lane change, bring the leftstalk to the unstable position for lessthan half a second. The direction indicator on the se-lected side flashes three times andthen switches off automatically.

STEERING WHEEL STALKS


ENGAGING THE DEVICETurn the ring nut A to ON. It is ad-visable to engage the device at 4th gearor higher. The device cannot be en-gaged when the vehicle is in 1st gearor reverse.

STORING THE CAR SPEED

Turn the ring nut A to ON and pressthe accelerator to reach the requiredspeed.

Move the stalk upwards (+) for atleast one second, then release it: thespeed is memorised and you can re-lease the accelerator pedal.

CRUISE CONTROL (for versions/markets, where provided)

INCREASING THEMEMORISED SPEED

Proceed as follows:❍ press the accelerator pedal and

store the new speed (see previousdescription)

or❍ move the stalk upwards (+).

REDUCING THE MEMORISED SPEED

Proceed as follows:❍ disengage the device (see previous

description) then store the newspeed

or❍ move the stalk downwards (–) un-

til reaching the new speed, whichwill be stored automatically.

DISENGAGING THE DEVICE

Turn the ring nut A to the OFF posi-tion, or turn the engine off, or pressthe brake, the clutch or the accelera-tor (in the latter case the device stayson, without needing to press the RESbutton to go back to the previous con-ditions after accelerating).

Automatic disengagementThe device is automatically switchedoff in the following cases:❍ if the ABS or ESC systems inter-

vene;❍ with car speed below the preset

limit;❍ in the event of system failure.


ROOF LIGHTS

FRONT ROOF LIGHT

Switch A switches the roof lightson/off.A switch positions:❍ central position (position 0): lights

C and D switch on/off when thedoors are opened/closed.

❍ pressed to the left (position 1):lights C and D are always off;

❍ pressed to the right (position 2):lights C and D are always on;

Lights are switched on/off gradually.Switch B controls the spot light func-tion. B switch positions:❍ central position (position 0): lights

C and D are always off;❍ pressed to the left (position 1):

light C switches on; ❍ pressed to the right (position 2):

light D switches on.

IMPORTANT Before getting out ofthe car, make sure both switches arein the central position; when thedoors are closed, lights switch off pre-venting a possible discharge of thebattery.

In any case, if the switch is left inad-vertently in the On position, the rooflights will turn off automatically 15minutes after the engine stopping.

Press button q to lock all the doorssimultaneously (the LED on the but-ton will light up when the doors arelocked). Locking takes place irre-spective of the position of the ignitionkey.

START&STOP SYSTEM(for versions/markets, where provided)

The Start&Stop system activates eachtime the car is started and stops theengine automatically whenever thecar stops, when clutch is released, andrestarts it when the driver wants to re-sume driving by pressing the clutch.Therefore the system is useful to re-duce fuel consumption and CO2 emis-sions.

Note In particularly severe climateconditions it is recommended to limitthe use of the Start&Stop system toprevent the climate control systemcompressor from continuously switch-ing on and off, with following fastwindow misting and accumulation ofhumidity with unpleasant smells inthe passenger compartment.

OPERATING MODES

Engine stopping mode

With the car stopped, the engine stopswith gearbox in neutral and clutchpedal released.

Symbol U appears on the displaywhen the engine stops.

Note Automatic stopping of the en-gine is only allowed after having dri-ven faster than approximately 10km/h and when the engine is warm(coolant and oil temperature). Thefunction is not available when the en-gine is cold.

Engine restarting mode

To restart the engine, press the clutchpedal.

SYSTEM MANUALACTIVATION/DEACTIVATION

Press button T (see “Controls” para-graph) to turn the system on/off man-ually.

FAILED ENGINE CUT-OUT CONDITIONSWhen the system is operating, due tocomfort, emission control and safetyreasons, the engine does not stop insome conditions, among which:❍ engine still cold;❍ especially cold outside tempera-

ture;❍ battery not sufficiently charged;❍ heated rear window activated;❍ windscreen wipers working at

maximum speed;❍ particulate filter regeneration

(DPF) in progress (diesel enginesonly);


❍ driver’s door not shut;❍ driver’s seat belt not fastened;❍ reverse gear engaged (for example,

during parking manoeuvres);❍ for versions equipped with auto-

matic climate control (for versions/markets, where provided), if an ad-equate level of thermal comfort hasnot been reached or MAX-DEFfunction activation;

❍ during the first period of use, toinitialise the system.

In these cases, the display shows amessage and - for versions/markets,where provided - the symbol U flasheson the display.

GEARBOX

For 0.9 TwinAir 85 HP and 1.2 8V69 HP versions, to engage reverse Rfrom neutral, simultaneously lift thering A and shift the lever under theknob to the right and then back.

For 1.3 16V Multijet version, to en-gage reverse R from neutral position,shift the lever to the right and thenback.


REFUELLING THE CAR

PETROL VERSIONSUse only unleaded petrol with a num-ber of octanes not lower than 95R.O.N. (EN228 specification).

DIESEL VERSIONSUse only diesel for motor vehicles(EN590 specification).

To refuel proceed as follows: ❍ open the flap B pulling it outwards; ❍ introduce the dispenser in the filler

and refuel;

REFUELLING PROCEDUREFOR VERSIONS EQUIPPEDWITH “SMART FUEL” SYSTEM

“Smart Fuel” is a device integrated atthe end of the fuel filler pipe whichopens and closes automatically whenthe fuel delivery gun is introduced/ re-moved. This device is provided withan inhibiter preventing refuelling withincorrect fuel.

The refuelling procedure describedhere is illustrated on label A, which isapplied inside the fuel flap.

The label also indicates the fuel type(UNLEADED FUEL = petrol, DIESEL= diesel fuel).


❍ after refuelling, remove the adapterand close the flap B;

❍ reintroduce the adapter A in thebox and put this back in the lug-gage compartment.

Emergency refuelling (only for versions equipped with “Smart fuel”)

If there is no fuel in the car or the sup-ply circuit is completely empty, pro-ceed as follows to reintroduce fuel inthe tank: ❍ open the luggage compartment and

take the adapter A located in thetool box (versions equipped withspace-saver wheel - for versions/markets, where provided) or in theFix&Go Automatic container (ver-sions equipped with Fix&Go Auto-matic);

❍ open the flap B pulling it outwards; ❍ introduce the adapter A in the filler

and refuel;

❍ at the end of refuelling, before re-moving the dispenser, wait for atleast 10 seconds in order for thefuel to flow inside the tank;

❍ then remove the dispenser from thefiller and close the flap B.

Flap B is provided with a dust cowl Cwhich prevents deposits of impuritiesand dust at the end of the filler whenthe flap is closed.


At the end of the filler do notapply any object/plug whichis not provided for the car.

The use of non compliant ob-jects/plugs could cause a pressureincrease inside the tank, generatingdangerous situations.

Do not bring naked flames orlit cigarettes near to the fueltank opening: fire risk. Keep

your face away from the fuel fillerto prevent breathing in harmfulvapours.

WARNINGS FOR VERSIONSEQUIPPED WITH “Smart Fuel”

IMPORTANT If the filler compart-ment is washed with a high pressurejet, keep it at a distance of at least 20cm.

PREVENTIVE SAFETY

Lancia has worked hard to produce acar capable of guaranteeing the bestpossible safety for passengers. How-ever, the behaviour of the driver stillremains a decisive factor in terms ofroad safety.

Several simple rules for driving safe-ly in various conditions are listed be-low. Obviously many of them will bealready familiar to you but it will beworthwhile reading all of them carefully.

SAFE DRIVING

BEFORE GETTING BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL

Remember to observe these precau-tions:❍ make sure the lights and the head-

lamps are working correctly;❍ adjust the position of the seat, the

steering wheel and the rear viewmirrors correctly to achieve theideal driving position;

❍ adjust the head restraint carefullyso that your head, and not yourneck, is resting on it;

❍ make sure that nothing (mats, ob-jects in front of your seat, etc.) ishindering the pedal travel;

❍ make sure that any child retainingsystems (child seats, cribs, etc.)are correctly secured;

❍ stow any items carefully in theluggage compartment so that theywill not be thrown forward duringemergency braking;

❍ avoid heavy meals before a jour-ney. A light meal helps to keep re-flexes sharp. Avoid alcohol drinks;

❍ remember to check periodically:

– tyre pressure/wear;

– fluid level (engine oil, coolant,etc…);

– battery charge.


WHEN DRIVING

The first rule for safe driving is be-ing careful. Being careful also meansbeing in a position to anticipate themistakes or unwise behaviour of thedrivers of other vehicles.

Remember to observe these precau-tions:❍ observe the highway code and reg-

ulations of the country you are inand do not exceed the speed lim-its;

❍ always make sure that all passen-gers have their seat belts fastened,that children are transported insuitable child seats and that anyanimals are in pet carriers;

❍ try and make sure you are suitablyprepared for long journeys;

❍ do not drive for too long withouta break, but try and stop to havea rest and refresh yourself;

❍ make sure there is a constant airexchange in the passenger com-partment;

❍ never drive downhill with the en-gine off: the engine brake and thebrake servo will not be workingand greater force needs to be ex-erted on the pedal.

Always fasten seat belts,both in the front seats andthe rear seats including

any child seats. Driving with-out fastening seat belts increas-es the risk of serious injury orfatalities in the event of a crash.

Driving under the influ-ence of alcohol, drugs ormedication is extremely

dangerous for yourself and others.

Do not fit additionalspoilers, alloy wheels orhub caps other than gen-

uine parts: they could reducethe ventilation of the brakesand consequently their efficien-cy in emergency and repeatedbraking conditions or duringlong descents.

Water, ice or salt to pre-vent freezing scattered onthe roads could settle on

the brake discs reducing brak-ing efficiency the first time.


DRIVING AT NIGHT

These are the main instructions to befollowed when driving at night:❍ drive particularly carefully: dri-

ving conditions are more chal-lenging at night;

❍ reduce speed, especially on unlitroads;

❍ stop at the first signs of tiredness:continuing could put yourself andothers at risk; only resume drivingafter you are sufficiently rested;

❍ maintain a safe distance from thevehicles in front, greater than inthe daytime: it is difficult to assessthe speed of other vehicles whenonly their lights can be seen;

❍ make sure your headlight align-ment is correct: – if they are too low, they reduce

visibility and strain sight;– if they are too high, they may

annoy the drivers of other vehi-cles; keep the surface clean;

❍ only use main beam headlightsoutside town and when you arecertain you will not annoy otherdrivers: if you meet an oncomingvehicle, remember to dip yourlights;

❍ be aware of animals straying on theroad out of town.

DRIVING IN THE RAIN

Rain and wet roads are dangerous. Allmanoeuvres are more difficult on wetroads because grip conditions are con-siderably reduced. Stopping distancesincrease considerably and road hold-ing deteriorates.

Here is some advice to follow if it israining:❍ reduce your speed and maintain a

greater distance from vehicles infront;

❍ visibility is also reduced in heavyrain: in these cases, even in thedaytime, switch on your dippedheadlights to make yourself morevisible to other vehicles;


❍ do not drive through puddles athigh speed and grip the steeringwheel firmly: driving through apuddle at high speed could resultin you losing control of the car(“aquaplaning”);

❍ make sure the ventilation controlsare set to the demisting functionso that there are no problems withvisibility;

❍ periodically check the condition ofthe windscreen and rear windowwiper blades.

DRIVING IN FOG

Do not set off in thick fog if you can.

When driving in mist, haze or flashfog conditions:❍ maintain a moderate speed;❍ even if it is daytime, switch on

your dipped headlights, fog lightsand rear fog lights. Do not usemain beam headlights.

IMPORTANT Switch off your rearfog lamps in sections where visibilityis good: the brightness of these lightscould disturb drivers in the vehiclesbehind.❍ remember that fog also means

that the road surface is damp andtherefore all types of manoeuvreswill be more difficult and stoppingdistances are increased;

❍ always keep a safe distance fromthe vehicle in front;

❍ avoid sudden variations in speedand overtaking other vehicles;

❍ if the vehicle is forced to stop(break down, impossible to con-tinue because of lack of visibility,etc.), try and stop away from lanesof traffic, switch on your hazardwarning lights and, if possible,your dipped headlamps.


DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS

Here is some advice for driving in themountains:❍ use the engine brake when travel-

ling downhill in order to preventoverheating the brakes;

❍ never coast downhill with the en-gine off, in neutral or with the igni-tion key extracted;

❍ drive at a moderate speed andavoid “cutting” corners;

❍ remember that overtaking uphilltakes longer and therefore requiresmore road space: if you are beingovertaken uphill, assist the othervehicle.

DRIVING ON SNOW AND ON ICE

Here is some advice for driving inthese conditions:❍ maintain a moderate speed;❍ use winter tyres or snow chains on

snow covered roads;❍ mainly use engine brake and

avoid sharp braking;❍ avoid sudden acceleration and

sharp changes in direction;❍ in winter, even apparently dry

roads may have icy patches: takecare on sections of road not ex-posed to the sun, shaded by treesor rocks at the side, where ice maypersist;

❍ always keep a safe distance fromthe vehicle in front.

DRIVING WITH ABS

The following is recommended to op-timise the braking action of the ABSsystem:❍ during emergency braking or in

poor grip conditions, you may no-tice a slight pulsation on the brakepedal: it is the intervention of theABS; do not take your foot off thepedal, but continue pressing it fora continuous braking action;

❍ ABS prevents the wheels fromlocking, but does not increase thephysical limits of the grip betweenthe tyres and the road therefore,even if the vehicle is equippedwith ABS, always maintain a safedistance from the vehicles in frontand slow down into bends;

ABS is designed to improve the controlof the car, not to allow you to drivefaster.
