News Bulletin #6

25 January 2019

Double Bass coming to LPW

A group of Year 7 and Year 8 pupils are passionate about taking action to reduce the amount of single use plastics in the environment and they recently presented a thought-provoking assembly to the rest of the school.

They had researched the subject thoroughly and it was sobering to learn that if no action is taken now, there will be more than 13 billion tonnes of plastic on the planet by 2050. They showed the devastating damage that discarded plastic causes to the environment and to sea animals and birds.

They have been out and about visiting local retailers to see how much ‘unnecessary’ plastic is used in packaging and noted some positive action is starting to be taken, for example by coffee shops replacing plastic straws with paper ones.

This group of pupils is determined tackle this problem. They are writing to our local MP and to the large supermarkets to highlight their concerns and demand action. They are working on how we, as a school, can play our part too.

We are looking forward to supporting their initiative.

Lancing College Experience Day for Year 6

Make a Difference

A group of Year 6 pupils spent the day at Lancing College undertaking a variety of tasks and activities as part of the Lancing College Advance Programme for early application for places at Lancing in 2021. It was a busy and enjoyable day and we look forward to hearing the outcome in due course.

Last term, pupils from Nursery and Years 3 to 6 were treated to a visit from the Lancing College Double Bass teacher, Elizabeth Hosford. She played to and with the students and allowed each child to try various double bass instruments. Ms Hosford is joining us this term and has availability to take on new pupils. She also has a bank of instruments of various sizes which students would be able to rent. Any parents interested in their child taking up this opportunity should contact Mrs Goodson for details via [email protected]

Together we can make a difference!
