Landing the job
Preparation:• Gather your information for your resume• Arrange chronologically from oldest to most recent employment,
education, volunteering and other creditable information• Brain storm your Life’s Objective (what you want to do)• Attend a resume workshop with a Working Solutions or One Stop• Type your Resume (Employer/Company worked for, Dates, Job Title,
Main/Important responsibilities)• Employment history nothing more than 10 years old on it• Try to maintain your resume to 1 or 2 pages nothing more• Have it reviewed for spelling, grammar, punctuation, alignment and
neatness
EXAMPLE RESUME:
Research the employer• Know the position you are applying for, google the job
duties• Make notes of the job duties and responsibilities• Look up information / history about the employer

Arrive on time• Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your
interview.• If you do not know how much time it will take
to get to the interview make sure to leave the house at least • 20 mins earlier than expected arrival time.• Gather your clothes, purse, wallet etc. the
day before so that you don’t have to search for them the next day.

Greet everyone • From the Janitor to the CEO, all employees are
important• A warm welcome is a good sign of a good employee• Do not over do it
Make eye contact• Look interested and engage in the conversation• Eye contact ensures that you are paying attention• Do not over do it or it will seem like too much to the
interviewer
Body language• It is important to notice and control your body language
during an interview• Sit up straight and face the interviewer at all times• Do not express any body language that may seem
negative (rolling eyes, looking away, acting uninterested)
Do not use your phone• Turn off your phone before walking into the
interview• If it happens to ring do not pick up after the
interview is complete and you are out of the employers site• Employers have the right to terminate the
interview and deem you unemployable if you interrupt the interview using your phone.
ASK QUESTIONS• Asking questions ensures the
interviewer that you are paying attention and that you are an active learner and thinker• Employers like that you ask questions
because you are getting familiar with the job and they know that you will not act with out getting the right information before hand.
Thank the interviewer• Thank the interviewer and anyone involved at the end
of the interview• Send a thank you email or card to the interviewer
Accepting the Job• Still looking for employment, want the position, kindly accept the
offer• If already hired by another employer, no longer want the position,
kindly reject the offer• If accepted, on the day you are to start make sure to arrive at
least 20 minutes early• Bring with you 2 forms of ID, either a Driver’s License, Sheriffs ID,
Passport, Birth Certificate, or a Social Security Card• Be prepared to complete employment paperwork, emergency
contact forms, Federal Tax withholding forms, State Tax withholding forms, as well as any other company forms they may require
Pay Check Deductions:
• Federal/State Taxes• Medicare 1.45%• Social Security-
6.2%
• Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance (Optional)
• Any Child Support• Any type of court order
garnishments from school loan payments, chapter 13, or tax levy, etc.
• 401-K (usually after a year of service
Required: Optional/Court Ordered:
Reasons to Call out of work:• True family emergencies• True illnesses (contagious, high fever, vomiting, flu, etc.)• Car accidents• Family death • Single Parent with an ill child/ No one available to care for
sick child• Depending on where you live, weather during Winter months
is acceptable also• Make sure you know the Company policy for calling out of
work
Reasons NOT to call out of work:
• Pet is sick• Best friend is sick• Need a mental health day• Need a vacation day• Neighbor issues• Relationship/marriage Issues
Certain conditions may be excused depending on the employer make sure to ask first and read the policy documents.
