DESIGN HINTS FOR YOUR LANDSCAPE PROJECT

1. Scale – use a larger scale e.g. one square equals a 0.5 x 0.5M area if you are designing your whole backyard or a smaller scale e.g. one square equals a 0.2 x 0.2M area if you are focusing on one part of your section.

2. Draw in the buildings and permanent structures first.

3. Note on the drawing where North is so that the direction of natural occurrences like sunlight, shade, drainage and the prevailing winds can be noted.

4. Make notes on subjects such as what the area will be used for (playing, relaxing, gardening etc) and what features you want to highlight or hide.
