Friday 7 September 2012 Langley School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and
expects all its staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Dear Parents and Care Givers
Welcome
Welcome to everyone for whom this is the first week of a new academic year,
whether existing students and staff, or those who join Langley this September. We
hope that you have enjoyed a relaxing summer and now look forward to a new
academic year and the ‘fresh start’ that offers us all.
We are delighted to welcome some new members of staff to Langley this autumn:
Mr N Cox has joined us as Teacher of PE, Mr G Dawes, [known to some as a former
Teaching Assistant at Langley], returns following teacher training and experience
gained elsewhere, to a new post of Literacy Intervention Teacher.
Ms J Macdonald will be providing maternity cover support, mainly in the Science
Faculty and Miss J Franklin will be providing maternity cover support mainly in the
Humanities Faculty, whilst maternity cover in the PE Department is provided by
Mrs R Prichard, who started teaching at Langley last term. We are sure you will
wish to add your congratulations to Ms Bains, Mrs Johnson and Mrs Boyle and their
families on the safe arrival of their baby boys last term. We are also very pleased
to welcome back both Mr A Bullock [cover for Mr Hill during his continued ill
health] and Mrs D Parker in PE [part-time PE support]. We wish all our new staff a
warm welcome and hope they will have happy and successful careers at Langley.
Last but certainly not least, we send our congratulations to the former Miss Isaac
[MFL Department] who returned to school as Mrs Davie following her wedding
during the summer!
GCSE examination results 2012
Our preliminary assessment of our GCSE examination results this summer looks very
good – perhaps our best ever – however, rather than provide incorrect information
at this early stage, we aim to have confirmed results for you in next week’s
newsletter.
Congratulations to our students, who worked so hard and achieved some
personally rewarding and often outstanding results, to all the staff who taught,
supported, coaxed and cajoled them and to parents and care givers for their
patience, love and encouragement!

Uniform & Equipment
Thank you for your sustained support in helping us to maintain our high
expectations regarding uniform.
As a reminder, please ensure that:
• All students wear black leather shoes – not canvas or ‘trainer’ styles
• Girls’ skirts are a suitable length, ie no shorter than just above the knee
[and not made of stretch lycra]
• Only the school grey v-neck jumper is worn
• Blazers have a Langley School badge
Any students not meeting our standards will be asked to rectify the situation
immediately. If there are exceptional circumstances please provide a letter to the
form tutor. Thank you for your continued support, which is much appreciated.
Attendance / Requests for Leave of Absence
Please be aware that, in line with Government legislation, only where there are
exceptional circumstances will requests for Leave of Absence be authorised. We
will continue to use the Local Authority calculation guidelines to determine
whether a request meets the criteria for these circumstances. Requests for
holidays will no longer be automatically considered as exceptional circumstances.
Mr Evans, Deputy Headteacher
Calling All Ex-Langley Students reading English at University!
If you are currently reading English at University, having taken ‘A’ Level English
Language or Literature, we would love you to come in and share your experiences
with our current Year 10 and Year 11 students on Friday 14th September. We have
students who would like to follow in your footsteps and begin an English ‘A’ Level
at college. Please telephone the main office or email Miss Hobbs at
[email protected] Thank you in anticipation.
Year 7 Parents – Email Addresses / Updates for Year 8-11 Parents
As existing parents will be aware, we like to share our Newsletter via email
wherever possible. If you have not provided the school with your email address
please do so now and support us in our drive for economy and sustainability. The
newsletter is emailed each Friday morning.
Termly Headteacher Newsletter “Head’s Lines”
Thank you for your feedback on my initial end of term newsletter in July. Judging
by your responses, this type of communication would be appreciated and
enjoyed by many parents and care givers; I shall therefore be delighted to provide
another newsletter before Christmas. Thank you.
Yours sincerely
Mr P Talbot
Headteacher
