Dear Parents and Care Givers
Y9 Academic Mentoring / Review Morning – Friday 22 March
The next 1:1 academic mentoring morning will be for Year 9 students on Friday 22nd
March. This will mean that the Year 7, 8, 10 and 11 students will not need to be in
until the later time of 9.25am.
Year 9 students will be given an allotted time to meet their mentors between
8.40 - 9.25am on Friday 22 March.
All other year groups, ie Years 7, 8, 10 and 11 should please register with form
tutors at 9.25am on Friday 22 March.
Thank you in anticipation of your support.
Year 9 Parents’ Evening – Tues 26 March / Biometric Information Update + Consent
As advised recently, from September 2013, under the Protection of Freedoms Act
2012 (sections 26 to 28) we are required to notify each parent of a child and
obtain the written consent of at least one parent before being able to use a
child’s biometric information for an automated system. A copy of the form can be
found on our website and is also attached with this email.
We currently use biometric information in our dining room. If you are happy for us
to continue to use the measurements taken from your child’s fingerprint, we would
be grateful if you could sign and return the consent form to us.
We will be collecting these in at Parents’ Evenings. We should be grateful if
parents of Year 9 students could hand in your completed form when you
sign in on Tuesday 26 March. Thank you in anticipation of your support.

Comic Relief / Red Nose Day
A variety of challenging and fun fundraising events will take place in school today
or over the weekend – amongst which will be Ella Gayle of 7U who is bravely
having a ‘No 2’ hair cut – which has generated almost £300 in sponsorship!

Book of the Week The book for the week beginning Monday 18 March is:
Secret Breakers - Orphan of Flames by HL Dennis
The team of code-crackers face a new code that has never been solved. Brodie,
Hunter and Tusia are back at Station X, the secret code-cracking station at
Bletchley Park. And they are still wrestling with the great unanswered question:
what secret lies behind the ancient, coded Voynich Manuscript? Their first
adventure left them with a musical box that plays a tune by the composer, Elgar,
who loved codes. At once they are off on a new search which takes them to the
stories behind Elgar's famous music and a coded letter he wrote to a young friend,
Dorabella. The 'Dorabella Cipher' has never, ever been solved. Now our team of
code-breakers are on a twisting trail via medieval book burnings in Florence, a
mysterious boy known as the Orphan of the Flames, and a one-time famous
prisoner in London's Newgate Prison who wrote about King Arthur. Where is it all
leading? And will they survive, when hot on their trail is a secret organisation that
has always thwarted the search for truth and is prepared to kill to stop them ... The
second story in this highly original puzzle-solving series - a Da Vinci Code for kids.
The reader races along with the Secret Breakers team to break the
code ….. Enter the world of the Secret Breakers at http://hldennis.com/
Urgent Request for Return of Library Books!
Please ensure that Langley School library books are regularly returned, to
ensure that students have a good stock of titles to choose from. There are
currently many books which are overdue for return. In particular, we would be
grateful for the return of books from our current Year 11 students, who need to
return all their books before they leave
Congratulations to Tom Rees – 9E
Following trials, Tom Rees (9E) has been selected for U14
Warwickshire County Rugby Squad. Well done Tom!
Year 9 Football – 7 March 2013 – Solihull Cup
In conditions more suited to cross country, the team visited Lyndon for the quarter
finals of the Solihull Cup. After an early goal against us, we suddenly woke up and
competed for everything! We broke away before half-time and Alex Shaw slotted
in a superb goal. In the second half, both teams had chances before a Lyndon
shot was struck in the only place in the goal that Jordan Murphy could not reach.
In a tense finish, Charlie Lakin’s overhead shot hit the cross bar and Lyndon
managed to clear after a goal mouth scramble.
Well done boys – I am really proud of you all!
Mr McCallum, PE Teacher and Head of ECM Faculty
Addendum
Apologies to Oliver Kitching for a mistype – the exciting Y10 Football report by
Danny May should have mentioned Olly Kitching, not his elder brother.
Yours sincerely
