EPIC® Connectors to Cable Cross ReferenceFind the Right Connector for your Cable

Lapp offers a wide variety of connectors for power, control, and data. The following pages serve as a guide to matching a connectorseries with a cable. We have intentionally limited the displayed selection based on unshielded, cable wire size, number of conductors, and connectors for space considerations. This is just a small sampling of possible cable/connector match-ups. For more informationabout our EPIC® connector product line, please consult our full-line catalog.

TEMPERATURE CORRECTION FACTORSFor ambient temperatures other than 30°C (86°F),

multiply the allowable ampacities shown above by theappropriate factor shown below.

Adjustment Factors for More than Three Current-Carrying Conductors in aRaceway or Cable. Where the number of current-carrying conductors in a racewayor cable exceeds three, the allowable ampacities shall be reduced as shown in thefollowing table:

For Example:

† Unless otherwise specifically permitted elsewhere in this Code, the overcurrent protection for conductor types marked with an obelisk (†) shall not exceed 15amperes for No. 14, 20 amperes for No. 12, and 30 amperes for No. 10 copper, after any correction factors for ambient temperature and number of conductorshave been applied.

Installation Instructions for Cable in Cable Track

1. Only ÖLFLEX® FD or UNITRONIC® FD cablesshould be used in a moving cable trackapplication.

2. When selecting cable for cable track, thefollowing criteria must be taken intoconsideration: environmental conditions such astemperature, chemical influences, indoor oroutdoor operation, as well as traveling speedand frequency of operation.

3. The recommended minimum bend radiusof the cable should not be exceeded. Refer tothe technical data section of this catalog forminimum bend radius for flexing.

4. The cables must be prepared for installationinto the cable track without twists, bends orkinks in the cable. Therefore, the cable shouldalways be unwound from the outside layer ofthe reel or spool. The cable should never bepulled from a coil. Before insertion into the track,it is important that the cable be laid outor hung at least 24 hours prior to installationinto the cable track to relax any stressesresulting from transit or storage. If the cablecannot be relaxed, it should be shook out bygrasping the cable length at its mid-point andshaking the cable as you move to each end. Then, wrap each end of the cable with mask-ing tape and mark the top of each cable end.Maintain this alignment throughoutinstallation and clamping.

5. When placing the cable into the cable track, the track should be laid out flat with thebending direction facing upward, then fittedwith the cables in working position. Thecables should be laid into the cable track andnot weaved between or around other cables. The cables should lay loosely side by side inthe track. A minimum clearance of fivepercent of the cable diameter should beallowed on each side of the cable. Whencable is installed in track where spacers areprovided, they should be separated fromeach other.

6. The cables should not be fixed to the trackor tied together in the track.

7. The weight of the cables must be evenlydistributed. Heavier cables should be placedtowards the outside of the cable track, whilelighter ones should occupy the center of thecable track. When the cable track is sidemounted, always place the larger cabletowards the outside and the smaller cablestoward the inside of the cable track. Cablesmust not be pulled tight against the inner trackcurve. Cables must not be pushed tightagainst the outer track curve.

8. After the cable track is installed, the cablesshould be cycled through several flexes andobserved for freedom of movement. It isimportant to ensure the cables can move withcomplete freedom within the bend radius, sothat movement of the cables among them-selves and with the track is possible.

9. The cables should be clamped into position atboth ends of the cable track. Prior to clamp-ing, the alignment marks on the taped endsshould be correctly positioned. Do not crushthe cables when clamping. The clampingpoints must be located at a distance of15 x cable diameter from the end point of theflexing movement. NOTE: When calculating15 x cable diameter, it is important to usethe diameter of the largest cable in the track.

Note: The above table references the voltage drop over distances. It was determined by using selection criteria of Motor Properties Table. In order to determine the voltage drop, multiply the length by the data above.

For Example: For a 5 HP and 460V motor, P/N 701804 would be used. For a distance of 200 feet, your voltage drop would be200 x .058 = 11.6volts.

In keeping with the principles of the Lapp Group, customer education is a top priority. We strive to keep our customersaware of breaking industry changes. For a more detailed technical explanation, please visit Lapp USA's website atwww.lappusa.com/vfd-whitepaper.pdf.

Note: The above table references the suggested wire AWG to use based on Horse Power (HP) and the Full Load Current (FLC) times 125% perNEC Art. 430-22 (A). Amperes (FLC) were determined from NEC Art. 430-150:

For Example: For a 5 HP and 460 Volt motor, the FLC is 7.6A x 125% = 9.5A. The right AWG wire for 9.5A is 18 perNEC Art. 310-16, 90oC. See page 667, for Table 310-16.

Conversion Factors

mm2 to AWG (American Wire Gauge)

When crossing mm2 to AWG, Lapp references the most common AWG sizes for ease of use. Technically the standardmm2 in Europe is slightly larger than AWG. Within the Lapp catalog, the measurement mm2 refers to true size of thewire. When crossing over from mm2 to AWG, please refer to the chart below.
