LAS PREPOSICIONES. PREPOSITIONS (1)

Preposiciones de lugar y movimiento.

Las principales preposiciones de lugar son: IN, ON, AT.

- INen, dentro de Para espacios cerrados (habitaciones, edificios, etc) o reas queestn claramente delimitadas (una ciudad, un pas, continente)INEngland, IN my bag, INyour house

- ON en, sobre, encima de Para superficies (mesa, suelo, estantes, paredes,pantallas) y espacios lineales (carretera, camino, costa)ONthe grass, ONthe beach, ONthe wall

- AT a, en Para un punto determinado en el espacio (la parada de la autobs, la puertadel cine) y para edificios (ya sea dentro o fuera e ellos)I was AT the bus stop, Lets meet AT the cinema

Es frecuente en algunas expresiones muy frecuentes, del tipo en casa AT home, en el colegioAT school, en el trabajo AT work.

Algunos verbos pueden llevar la preposicin AT, y tambin admiten IN (con ciudades y pases)pero nunca admitenTO. Es el caso del verbo ARRIVE.

Podemos decir They always arrive AT the meeting late; pero nopodramos usarTO Theyalways arrive TO the meeting.They arrived IN USA yesterday; pero no podramos usarTO; They arrived TO USA yesterday.

Otras preposiciones de lugar importantes son:

- UNDER debajo, debajo de She satdown under a tree.

- IN FRONT OF delante de Peter issitting in front ofyou.

- OPPOSITE enfrente de Louise isthe teacher. She is sitting oppositeyou.

- BEHIND detrs, detrs de Thepoliceman ran behindthe thief.

- ABOVEsobre, por encima de Therewas a flat abovethe shop.

- NEXT TO/BESIDE junto a, al lado de Italked to the man sitting next to/beside me.

- BELOW debajo, por debajo de There isa shop belowmy flat.

- NEAR cerca , cerca de The school was nearmy house.

- BETWEEN entre (dos cosas) I sat betweenMary and John on the bus.- AMONGentre (ms de dos cosas) The rubber is amongall the pencils.

Las preposiciones anteriores marcan una posicin determinada. Cundo los verbos tienenun significado activo necesitaremos otras preposiciones que indiquen movimiento:
