Welcome folks as they enter and guide them to complete the “How to Become a Christian Match” in their chairs.

2. Slide 2: Lasso Them In: ABCs to Discipleship for Kids

Today we’re going to look at two essential elements of VBS: The ABCs of becoming a Christian and the discipleship that needs to be part of VBS follow-up. Let’s begin by reminding ourselves of the ABC.

Take a few minutes to go over the “How to Become a Christian Match.”

3. Remind folks about the training helps available for all people who will be teaching and working in VBS 2010.

Slides 3-8: Items for use with Leading a Child to Christ

Go over all the pieces of “Leading a Child to Christ Training Pack.” Give each person a copy of “Leading a Child to Christ” (for adults), one of the ABCs of Becoming a Christian booklets (HCSB or KJB).

Slides 9-10: VBS Witnessing Resources and Club VBS Witnessing Resources

Call attention to the witnessing items in VBS 2010 and Club VBS 2010 and to the LOBL items related to the ABCs. Suggest that helping children know how to become Christians is not just a VBS initiative, but an everyday command from Jesus to go and make disciples.

4. This year we want to take some time to make sure we plan for follow-up for girls and boys who make professions of their faith during VBS. As we began to plan for these conferences in the Spring of 2009, our desire was to offer a plan for discipleship.

5. Give each person a copy of “Transition from VBS to Sunday School.” Go over the suggested steps for helping girls and boys who have attended VBS make a smooth transition to Sunday School at your church.

Ask the Who? What? When? Where? How? questions related to this transition. Ask, “Who could direct these actions? What hurdles would you have to overcome? Based on your VBS schedule, when would you have transition Sunday? How could you adapt it for your church? Why would you do this? (FOR THE CHILDREN.) Give each person a copy of VBS Follow-Up Discipleship Plan 1 for children who make professions of faith. Go over the suggested plan for making disciples of the girls and boys who have asked Jesus into their lives.
