CRISIX

The reaction that Crisix are having with their album Rise ... Then Rest can not be defined otherwise than

spectacular. The quintet’s second album that has entered into the lists of sales at 63rd pla-ce, which shows that not only is beginning to be a new generation of bands that are ta-king the place inside the national metal, it also represents the confirmation of a scene underestimated by most media and indus-try, and nevertheless has the support of a lo-yal legion of fans and a great number of spe-cialized media which are aware of this new phenomenon that does not stop growing.

¿What can we say of this group that have not said in all the media? the truth is that I don’t know, so let’s do it with a completely personal character.

Personally they make me return to my youn-ger days when thrash was something brutal, great and of course “diabolic”, since 2008 the band has given much to talk about.

Now they take out Rise ... then Rest, in which for me, they have consecrated themselves as THRASHERS, in CAPS, of this country (again this is just my personal opinion). The album is good, very good from the first to the last. The more you listen, the more you like... I don’t know what to say more about this fan-tastic group...

Clearly, I invite you to listen it and after you listen several times, you’ll know what to do.

HEALTH AND THRASH!

NO EXPECTATIONS

NO EXPECTATIONS , is a band that was born in the beginning of 2012 with Neil Roma (guitar and vocals), Francesc Baudilio (bass and vocals), Roger Bonet (Guitar) and Pau Ballester (Drums). After the consolidation of his style as Rock N ‘Roll with influences from bands like Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, MClan, Mucho, The Rolling Stones, between others, they began to compose his own songs with lyrics in Spanish. At the end of 2012, Roger Bonet leaves the formation and the Leridan trio records his first demo, which consists of 5 songs from own com-position and one version of Even The Losers translated into Spanish. After winning the last

edition of Directe, the group prepares to give several concerts in various halls and festivals.

After hearing them live, we can say that it’s a group that will give much to talk about in a few years because it’s a young group eager to keep learning.

From Last Howl magazine, we give them all our support!

TRANCE

Trance comes from a town of Cuenca, but they are mostly settled on Madrid. Seven years ago they began playing

concerts in small bars in their area, playing covers of other bands but at the same time composing their own songs. In 2008 they re-cord a first debut album with the name “De golpe y porrazo” in La Chistera Studios de Horcajo de Santiago, their hometown.

“Parar Es Morir” (“To stop is to die”) is the standard and the motto of their new album. In addition to providing the album’s title is also the name of a song which shows the evo-lution of the band and a much mature sound. We can see that this group, since the begin-ning, hasn’t changed his way to see the music, with a Rocker style - Punk, with a touch of Pop, but all in “badass” version, which turns

the group into catchy.

They are currently preparing a tour in this 2013, that begins on May 10th and they will tour in:

- May 11th (Cuenca)- May 25th (Valencia)- June 8th (Zaragoza)- June 22th - Nuevo baztán (Madrid)- June 28th (Toledo)- August 7th - copeda la Mora (Ávila)

We hope they come around the area to see live, of course they sound great and we like them!

STRENGTH AND HEALTH!

Before you were known as “Why not?”,¿Why this change of name and the

start of this new musical project? ¿How arise everything? Well, Whynot? was the group in which we grew, musically speaking, their formation suffered some changes and, with them, the musical style. Af-

ter the establishment of the current forma-tion (Pau, Ruben, Edu and Vik) and recor-ding of the last EP of Whynot, we plunged into a joint composition process and not take us long to realize that the next project would have a very different color. Such was that we decided to close the door and start a new phase, as cyclists. :D

The question that will never have done, ¿Where does it come the group name, Sarabix? Hahaha, yeah…never have asked.Sarabix was the second most voted name for the Bible. We needed a name with the kinetic energy of a rock, but finally we left it in Sarabix. :D

¿What can we find listening to your last job “Krakatoa”? ¿What message you want to convey? We often ask ourselves what would happen if hostile situations, which constantly we are exposed, were raised at another stage of our life or in different emotional states. Krakatoa tries to tell through the lyrics and music, the different ways in which we tend to fit these changing environments. As re-gards the lyrics, we would like to bring a different perspective. Compose in Spanish is a great challenge for us because this style has gone hand in hand mostly of the English and people are likely to see them so strange. In relation to music, we have taken an ambitious stance with the deve-lopment of the songs. The ultimate goal of all is that explodes the head to the people and such. :D Krakatoa is the name of a volcano, has this some connection with Sarabix? Hehehe, this is the second favorite ques-tion. In short, Krakatoa was part of a group of islands that “burst and disappeared” from map. The record refers to everything that we carry within that is constantly changing, uncontainable everything that one day, it can sprout and kill yourself. Well, actually we wanted that our album went down in history as the Crash of 29th, and had the elegance of a cockatoo. :D ¿How went the composition process of “Krakatoa”? Krakatoa was the result of a period of two years of composition in which we have matured a lot together, in which we have defined a way forward. The elaboration of songs has been made together . We don’t like the idea that each one deal only with his instrument. We observe it as a whole

and all participate in greater or lesser degree in every second of the disk, excluding Bruce Springsteen that hasn’t paid the local this month and ultimately brings no riffs. :D ¿Which are your main influences? ¿What would be for you to get to share the stage with them? Honestly, when we look back and try to determine what were our influen-ces we see it all a bit murky, because we know that although forget many groups, each and every one of them were present in us and have participa-ted indirectly in Krakatoa. We see it as an amalgam of dispara-te influences, but if we had to men-tion certain styles or groups we could

name from powerful and melodic groups as Belvedere, This is a Stan-doff, Mute, Sunsgrind, Protest the Hero, to alternative groups like Biffy Clyro , Coheed & Cambria, Stands-till, Tubelord, Toe and other mathe-maticians such as Lite, Blakfish and Pink Gamera (Gamera Pink, cool, cool). :D ¿What projects do you have for this 2013? Well, in a short term we have arran-ged a mini-tour to promote the record in the southeast of the peninsula bet-ween May and July. We’ll be playing in Almeria, Murcia, Elche, Alicante, Valencia and Madrid. We are organizing with Albifornia a

Tour together arround northern Spain after summer. It always made me very excited to play for the North but Ko-rea grate us. But, this weekend plays “Barbecue in the field of Pau”, a very cool group, like Scottex. :D ¿How do you see the national music scene? Regarding groups, from Pop to Ultra MetalCore, there’s a herd of bestial bands in the country, but many, un-fortunately, are not having the impact and facilities they deserve. Contrary to what many people think (and like others already know) it’s complica-ted nowadays to go out and play out of your city because the conditions of many halls are not at all fair and it’s almost impossible to return home without having lost the hen. In addition, we also believe that there’s a problem at the cultural level. The people in our zone don’t usually go to concerts unless the groups like them enough, when it should be the re-verse, meet groups and catch habit of going to concerts. This, among other factors, are those that have resulted in many huge cities, which house many groups are starting to roll, have few concert halls. In fact, the national scene was pretty good, then came the “Krakatoa” and had to fuck it up. :D For those who still don’t know you, ¿Where can they follow the group daily and listen to your music? As for the album Krakatoa, strictly speaking, is available on one side in physical form, which can be purcha-

sed at our shows or through the online store and on the other hand in digital format for free download, and online at Spotify or sarabix . bandcamp.com. However, we are open to new ex-periences, we would not mind meet with people and hum the disc while going to buy bread. Regarding Sara-bix, every novelty, news or curiosity is told in the most stupid possible way on both Facebook and twitter. facebook.com/sarabixband twitter: @sarabixband Thank you very much for the inter-view, we hope that you have success with your projects! Let a few words to our readers. Those readers there too cute and lo-vely that have read all of this to the end. We hope that by luck or by acci-dent let yourselves fall into any of our shows and share a bit of music and a few games at the brisca. Thank you very much, Last Howl Magazine for the interview and diffusion. Thank you very much for these pixels. :D

Helia, you are a group with a great potential, but little is known about you. How did you start in

the music world? All started in 2007 when Jackie began writing some ideas even before the elec-tion of the members of the band. Soon the first self-produced EP saw the light, and in 2009 we got the first firm with a small Italian label. In 2010 we did that people talk about us, after the release of our cover of Lady Gaga’s song “Alejan-dro”, and in 2011 we launched “2036”, our second self-produced EP, and a few months ago we launched “Gaia”.

Since you began in 2007, you have had several lineup changes, but you continue in the same line, ¿Do you think that these changes have affected the group? ¿Why?Of course, the numerous lineup changes slowed down our band during these years but now, more than ever, we found the feel and balance among the group mem-bers. Our new singer, Matt, is only 19 and he has given us an explosion of in-novation and work ... So I would say that everything is going well!

¿Why did you decide to call you Helia?Hehe this is a question that people often makes us, and we can stay here and invent completely false anecdotes about the mo-ment haha! The truth is that it was pretty random, we liked how it sounded and we put!

Recently, you have recorded a new video: “Gaia”. Could you tell us how was the re-cording?It was great to be back in the studio, we

worked hard on this track and we are now working on the new material with the same spirit and dedication.

¿How do you see the music world nowadays? In the music industry nowadays, it’s pretty saturated with the music that sounds the same, especially in our genre. We’re not saying that we are doing the most original music in the world ... But we would like to see more innovation in sound instead of hearing the same things already done.

¿You are a young and innovative group that you use facebook to spread your group, ¿do you think that social networks have helped you to get to where you are?Honestly, we believe that without the voice broadcasting in social networks wouldn’t be here talking to you right now, it helped us a lot and still does.

¿Could you explain any anecdote on the stage?Long ago, our guitarist and singer Jackie fell into a hole in the stage, it was a small club in a lost city in Russia ... There was very little space there and we start acting like idiots, more than we usually do. At one point we saw Jackie with one leg completely collapsed into a hole with peo-ple laughing at him and the singer trying to help him up, but it was impossible, becau-se of his weight hahaha!

If you could choose with whom to share the stage at a concert. With whom did you share?Last summer we had the honor of sharing the stage with 3 bands I most apprecia-

Page 16: Last Howl Nº7 (ENG)

16

te: Arquitectos, Suicide Silence and Enter Shikari. We would like to share with a lot of bands we like ... Going on tour with Slipk-not would be nice!

¿You have a tour in mind for this year?We just started to work on some dates, there will surely be news about it.

¿What do you hear in your private life?We all have different tastes in music, it is very difficult to answer this question! Usua-lly, when we’re touring we listen Italian po-pular music to the black metal!

Thank you very much for giving us an interview. From Last Howl magazine, we wish you all the best. Finally, ¿you want to leave some words for our readers?Thank you very much for the interview, we hope to return soon in Spain!

How and when arise Lancaster?Anth: Lancaster arises from the idea of bringing something new

to the national scene with the intention of being an international band. We have been meeting in different ways to be what we are today. And this happened... now just less than two years.¿How is the group’s day to day?Adru: We work very hard. Part of our phi-losophy is to not stop working while we can.Anth: We have like our little “bible”, phi-losophy, way of working, or whatever you call it; basically is based on hard work and perseverance. The group was born with that idea under the arm so since we started we split the work and try to always have something to do, it doesn’t mean that is the secret formula, but at least leaves us satisfied.¿What are your main influences?Anth: Our main influences are bands like Young Guns, Lostprophets, The Blackout, We Are The Ocean, Francesqa, Don Bro-co, Mallory Knox, Deaf Havana, Funeral For A Friend, The Swellers, Thrice, Bon Jovi…We feel strongly influenced by the new wave of UK groups that come stomping.

What can we find by listening your last work “Squaring the Circle”?Anth: We call it a “declaration of inten-tions”, we wanted that the people started to know who are Lancaster. Can be heard to a young group eager to conquer the world and hours of road.¿How was the creation process of the EP? ¿How is the process that you use when it

comes to composing?Anth: The EP was quite fast to compose. From the beginning we felt very comfor-table together at the time of writing so it was something easy, like I said, we did not want to complicate, just express our hun-ger for success to the world, and I think we succeeded. We don’t have a standard process but usua-lly comes from a melody, two chords... Whatever it is, let’s say that we start with any idea and we develop it . We are very happy with “Squaring the Circle”, it has worked as we wanted, But the best is yet to come.¿What message you want to convey through your music?Adru: Strength, power, presence, futu-re... We want to convey to the world that we have things very clear. In our directs we like that the public feels as part of the song and enters into that chorus or hum our choirs.Anth: The songs often talk about the per-son, about experiences, or stories that you can easily feel identified. When I write a song I want to achieve that the person who listens it, be the protagonist of each of them and get to understand it and enjoy it from their point of view.

¿How was the recording of your first vi-deo?Adru: We spent two days recording at full time, with a lot of work, but it worth. The truth is that it was fun. Record all the sce-nes, search the stage, we had to overcome unforeseen ... haha.¿How about this presentation EP tour? ¿How would you define your directs? ¿Do you have any funny anecdote?Adru The truth is that it is still great. In our first part we have traveled Catalunya, in the second, part of Spain and Euska-di. Now we are preparing the last part and we are doing very hard. People are responding very much and this is one of the things that surprised us and gives us strength to travel more roads and reach more cities.Anth: It’s amazing, I hedgehog skin when I see how there are people who know our music, and if you take into account mi-les away, I find that incredible. Our live shows are very energetic, and we love to see the public involved so we try to inte-ract quite.¿What are your plans for the future? ¿Are you working on anything new?Adru: We are very much involved com-posing our new work, it will not leave an-yone indifferent.Anth: Bit by bit is taking form our first album, but still have to wait. Now we will finish the “We Are Lancaster Tour (Part II)” in Barcelona on May 10th with Sexy Zebras at BeCool Club, a concert of those which promise, and we will announce the dates for the last part, the We Are Lan-caster Tour (Part III). Although maybe there’s some surprises…

¿With which groups would you like reach to share the stage?Anth: It would be amazing to share the stage with Young Guns because they are an amazing group and we learn a lot. Also with Lostprophets, Thrice ... Actually with any band would seem to us incredible. For those who still do not know you, ¿Where they can listen your work and follow the daily life of the band?Lancaster are very active on social net-works, technology has given us some tools and you have to use them to be much closer to the people. We can be found on:· http://www.facebook.com/lancasterbcn

Since I was born, my life has been asso-ciated with the drawing. My aunt taught me from very small to draw with paint

and other techniques. At 6 years old my pa-rents, seeing that I liked everything about the drawing, sent me to a school of fine arts, the-re pass many years until I started artistic high school where I finished to learn some techni-ques.

When I finish it I took a higher grade of illustra-tion, that is what I am currently studying.

In recent years I have become more interested in drawing on the computer using various ilus-

tration programs.

During my life I have been asked several people to do portraits, sports logos and music groups, prints on shirts and painted some mural.

I’ve also done many paintings on my own, es-pecially realistic. I mostly draw are characters related to the American West, as it’s something that I always passionate.

El Pez

Page 37: Last Howl Nº7 (ENG)

Pez is a graffiti artist from Bar-celona, born in 1976. He started in his hometown in 1999. Con-

cretely, he began writing his signature, which was evolving until his lines took shape of a fish. One day he decided to paint a fish, as a character, beside his signature. The Fish was born! A very smiley charac-ter. Found in his great smile a way of spreading good vibrations to passersby on the streets of his city, Barcelona. In less than a year, in early 2000, Fish was invited to graffiti contests and urban art exhibitions all over Spain. Soon the huge laughter character, spreads across Europe.During the last years Pez has been ex-posing his art around the world: New York, Los Ángeles, Tokio, London, Miami, París, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Oslo, Bogotá... His work appears in reference books from the world of graffiti: Street logos,

Art of Rebellion, Street Art, BCN NY, ... Also in documentaries like “Bomb it the movie”, Muros libres, Free Walls and A Primer on urban painting, fruit of their desire to further his graffiti, and with the intention of spreading his “good vibes” to more people, in 2011 decided to crea-te his own line of products. At present, Pez exposes his art in galle-ries, participates in urban art festivals and events, exhibit in art fairs, and de-signs his own collections.
