Illegal Dumping

Our Ranger, Razalie Zainiel, have recently spotted illegal dumping of rubbish on Shire land. We would like to remind residents that all rubbish must be disposed of at the Transfer Station at all times. Green wastes are to be delivered and disposed of at the

Green waste site.

Illegal dumping is a costly crime. Dumping your rubbish in bushes, down dirt roads and at our parks and reserves is a health

and safety hazard. It harms the environment and can be costly to clean up.

Always dispose of your unwanted goods the safe and legal way. Take them to the transfer station or contact the Shire for further advise. We need your help to a stop to illegal dumping. Anyone can report illegal dumping to the Shire. If you see dumping, say

something. Help keep our islands beautiful.

Photos below was taken at Home Island mulching site.

If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Razali at the shire office or email [email protected].

Thank you for your co-operation.

Illegal Dumping

Ranger kami, Pak Rani, telah mendapati pembuangan sampah haram ditanah Shire. Kami ingin mengingati penduduk semua yang semua sampah mesti dibuang di Transfer Station setiap masa. Sampah pokok-pokok mesti dibuang ditempat sampah

Kalau kamu lihat orang membuang sampah merata-

rata, nasihatkan sesuatu. Bantu menjaga kebersihan pulu-pulu kita.

Gamba diatas dipetik di tempat mulching di Home Island.

Kalau kamu ada kekuatiran, silahkan hubungi Pak Rani diopis shire atau email [email protected].

Terima kasih atas kerjasama kamu.

SIMPLE STEPS TO GREEN YOUR OFFICE

The following tips for greening your office is by no means an exhaustive list, but a way to get started in making your workplace more environmentally

friendly.

USE ELECTRICITY WISELY.

Turn off all computers, printers, photocopiers, and other equipment that doesn’t need to be left on at the end of the day and leave them off until you need to use them again. Check that all computers/monitors are set to their most energy efficient settings (e.g., monitor set to shut off after 15 minutes of no use). When leaving a room for more than a few minutes, switch off the lights. Use compact fluorescent bulbs instead of incandescent ones. Take advantage of natural sunlight as much as

possible.

REDUCE, REUSE,

RECYCLE.

“Reduce, reuse, recycle” Really think about everything you use. Do you need disposable cups at the water cooler? Can you use the other side of the used sheets of paper you’ve thrown in the recycle bin? Australia has added a fourth R – Refuse. Simply put: Don’t buy stuff you don’t need. And, when you do make a purchase, bring your

own bags.

USE NON-TOXIC

CLEANING PRODUCTS.

Encourage your cleaning company to use green cleaning products or buy cleaning products that is

environmental friendly.

Prison Island-Pulu Beras ('rice island') as it is known in Malay, used to be twice its present size and with a hill that was almost the highest point on the islands. The now tiny island housed a prison in the early days of settlement, though little remains of this today except

the name.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Quote of the Day

Happiness is a direction, not

a place.

Thought for the Day

Two salesmen were going door to door, and knocked on the door of a woman who was not happy to see them. She told them in no uncertain terms that she did not want to hear their offer and slammed the door in their faces. To her surprise, however, the door did not close and, in fact, bounced back open. She tried again, really put her back into it, and slammed the door again with the same result-the door bounced back open. Convinced these rude young people were sticking their foot in the door, she reared back to give it a slam that would teach them a lesson, when one of them said: “Ma'am, before you do that again you need to

move your cat.”
