The TER (Performance Recognition System) is open to applications by those who have performed exceptionally in some area, for example sports, theatre, or generally high academic achievement, or perhaps embody Jewish values exceptionally. And there are many further categories. Congratulations to all award winners. The official presentation ceremony will be in September.

LAUDER SUCCESSES AT THE LAUDER-SCHEIBER SONG COMPETITION The Israeli Cultural Institute organized the Lauder-Scheiber song competition as part of the
Israel National Independence Day celebrations.
The two-school showdown saw our students Petra Hollósi (4th grade), Alíz Pacziga (6th grade), Adrey Marodi (3rd grade), Nikol Marodi (6th grade), Anna Székely and Sára Kovács (5th grade) take the mic.Petra Hollósi took first place, while Alíz Pacziga took second. where Boldi won 4th place.
At one of the most prestigious nature photography competitions, Boldi’s photo took fourth place in the children’s category. He made the top five from more than 40 000 submitted photographs!

LIVING LIBRARY
Our half-year long cooperation with the Right(s) Court for Children drew to a close with a final work-shop.The children interviewed children’s rights experts, and then debated their findings amongst each other.In the second part of the workshop, children got to know the Living Library program, which allowed them to “borrow” experts and talk to them, then discussing what they found out.Of course, there were also a lot of fun and games in the beginning and end of the day, which helped them process the sometimes difficult topics.
THE CARPE DIEM RESTAURANTOn May 26th, the Carpe Diem Restaurant opened its doors in the Lauder assembly hall
The closing session of the second term restaurant project was a bona fide restaurant set up and run by the project participants. The grand occasion was held on the 26th of May, when, at 17:00, the Carpe Diem Restau-rant opened its doors. The extracurricular group had been cooking every two weeks in the students’ kitchen, to make sure they were professional chefs for opening day. The assembly hall had been prepared the night before, and Thursday morning the restaurant’s sign was also installed above the door. Work started in the kitchen from morning, preparing the dishes for the guests.And finally, the big moment came!Under the supervision of chef Dani Baranyi, an ex-Lauder student, and our teacher Ágnes Bene, the mouthwa-tering dishes were being prepared in the kitchen. Under the watchful eyes of head waiter Andris Márton in the assembly hall, orders were being taken. The kitchen’s work was also helped by Judit Lux, Hilda and Jucus. The guest book tells the tale of amazing chicken-curry soup with wonton, breaded mushroom with yew cheese, and beef stew. The winning desserts were panna cotta and apple pie. The guests were entertained by live guitar music to suit the mood, thanks to Andris Himmler. After the restaurant closed at 21:30, cleanup lasted until midnight.

LITERARY TRANSLATION COMPETITION IN OUR HIGH SCHOOL
On 30th May, we held our now traditional literary translation competition’s award ceremony in English, Hebrew and Spanish.The audience could marvel at brilliant prose and poems in both original and translated English, Hebrew, Spanish as well Hungarian. Our master of ceremonies was someone with experience in published translation, Szandra Ladányi (10th grade).

A TRIP TO DANTE’S HOMEOur 8th and 10th graders spent their spring break in Italy
Our first stop was the Slovenian town of Trojane, the proclaimed donut capital of the world, and then we con-tinued to Trieste. In Italy, we got to know Venice, Verona and Lake Garda. We rode a vaporetto boat, walked in the Doge’s Palace, the Arena of Verona and the house of Juliette, often stopping for pizza, ice cream and once even a dip in the cold sea.
LAUDER CUPOn 1st of May, we held the XXXII. Lauder Cup Chess Championships, where 214 child chess players
gathered from all over the country.
The competition saw 18 of our students compete, and they stood their ground well, despite the fact that the Lauder Cup is one of the highest ranking non-official competitions in the country, with the best players all coming to take part.Dóra Koltai took second place, while Anna Dán took third place among the girls; only the national champion was able to surpass them, and even she by only half a point and one point, respectively.

ANNA DÁN WAS THE WINNER OF THE II. APÁCZAI HIGH SCHOOL OPEN
The II. Apáczai High School Open FIDE chess competition was held between 20-22nd of May, and saw six of our students compete.In Group B, Anna Dán confidently and with brilliant play secured total victory, raising her ranking points by 71. Dániel Horváth-Borsiczky was in his best form, and secured a strong fifth place.

SILVER MEDAL AT THE ABACUS MATH COMPETITIONBálint Dobák took national second place
At the points-based, seven-round Abacus Mathematical Pages competition Bálint Dobák made no mistakes. He secured a further 6 extra points beyond the maximum, and this excellent performance meant a national second place amongst third graders.
GOLD MEDAL AT THE LÁSZLÓ KALMÁR MATH COMPETITIONBálint Dobák reaches the top
The László Kalmár Math Competition is one of the most prestigious and difficult competitions. The two-day long finals saw contestants solving a total of 10 problems. Bálint Dobák was again on top of the challenge, and secured national first place among third graders.
MTK GIRLS SUCCESSES
LAUDER GYMNASTICS SUCCESS
At the Budapest Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in May, Anna Juhász and Míra Váray competed in the junior category.Based on the results, Míra Váray became the 2016 Budapest Champion in the junior category, with Anna Juhász taking second place. In individual performances, ribbon, hoop and ball saw Míra as the best, while Anna was better at clubs. Alexandra Kis was best in all performances and apparatus, taking the first place and becoming champion among adult competitors.

ANOTHER WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE BY THE MTK GIRLS
The Brno Grand Prix and Tart Cup international rhythmic gymnastics champion-ships saw Anna Juhász and Míra Váray take the floor.On the day of the semi-finals, the team finished 4th place, while individually Míra made it to the finals with hoop and ball, which practically meant being amongst the
top six. Finally, on the day of the finals, she secured bronze with hoop, while with ball she took fourth place.
ALEXANDRA, MÍRA AND ANNA PERFORMED AMAZINGLY AGAIN
At the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Minsk, Alexandra Kis finished 19th out of 29 in the first ever adult tournament she took part in, ahead of, amongst others, Brazil’s Olympic candidate Natalia Gaudio.In the international junior competition, looking at individual team scores, Míra Váray and Anna Juhász took 5th place.Individually both girls made the best eight. Míra came 4th with ball, 5th with ribbon, 8th with hoop. Anna presented her choreography with clubs in the finals, where she secured 5th place.

PARAFONIA – “A LITTLE DIFFERENT” KIND OF AMAZING MUSIC
The 18 members of the Parafonia orchestra are people living with mental disabilities. The orchestra and our 5th and 6th graders spent an unforgettable 90 minutes. From the farewell speech of their leaders, Kati Erdős and Réka Fabényi, we got to know that never had they had such an open, receptive audience – even though they have quite a lot of history. They were founded 15 years ago, and have been giving concerts ever since. They are returning performers of the Valley of Arts, where they go on stage both anxious and brave before hundreds of people, radiating happiness and a deep connection to music. This is a language that connects them to everybody.Their repertoire encompasses mainly classical music. We even received a special gift, as twelve of them learned a Hebrew song (hava nagila), performing and playing together with our students as a finale. We are so grateful that they came. We are planning to hold this sensitizing program for our middle school students every two years. And as a few words about our gift to them, every member of the orchestra received a Soul Bird book.

HELPING TOGETHER WITH THE BUDAPEST BIKE MAFIAThe Budapest Bike Mafia is a dynamic NGO which collects and distributes
donations to those in need.
The students and kindergarteners of Lauder brought and made a lot of food, so that the bicycle riding aid or-ganization, the Budapest Bike Mafia could distribute it amongst those in need. The visionary founder of BBM, Zoltán Havasi personally came to our school and kindergarten on 3rd of May, to introduce their activities and to take away the bags and boxes of food.
