The 24 acre site for the new Edna Karr High School is situated outside of New Orleans, bound to the north by the Mississippi River. The massing stretches across the site with an east-west axis and two wings that wrap a central courtyard to the north.
The 700 foot facade is punctuated by the glassy walls of the vertical circulation and the floating stucco boxes that house the Science Labs and Main Entry to the South and the Media Library to the North. The Media Library is considered the heart of the school and is located at the center of the second floor with a wall of north facing windows overlooking the courtyard to maximize natural daylighting.
The project is on track for LEED silver with an intricate Storm Water Management Plan that includes impervious paving for all parking and landscaped retention zones throughout the site.

The Yale Health Center is a 350 room campus health facility that serves faculty, staff, family and Yale Alumni. The design aims to create a bright and reassuring building that uplifts the patients and eliminates any institutional associations. Moving past the custom bull-nose, charcoal bricks into the soaring atrium, the visitors are greeted with a bright and light-filled interior.
By siting the building on the southeast portion of the block, it is possible for the building plan to take on a triangular shape. This shape provides a generous perimeter wall to floor area ratio, a condition favorable to maximizing daylight into the building interior which is aided by deep horizontal cuts into the plan and vertical light wells. The irregular configuration of the radiating tentacular corridors resists the effects of the institutional corridor and lends a sense of privacy.

Morgan’s Point was settled at the turn of the 19th century, housing the oldest continuously operated cemetery in Harris County, Texas. A century later, the Barbours Cut shipping terminal was constructed, positioning Morgan’s Point at the center of the area’s most important shipping hubs. With the growth of the port, Morgan’s Point was relocated and paved over.
The program of this studio was a Control Center for the port and a Chapel for the remaining cemetery. The buildings are sited in a currently underused wedge of land created by the collision of the historic and new grids. This collision is formally expressed in the building massing as the chapel asserts itself onto the port in a violent way reminiscent of the site’s history. The chapel’s form is extruded through the Control Center, allowing courtyards to fill the voids where the forms overlap and to provide light and views for both programs.

Located on separate but proximate sites, three installations celebrate unique characteristics of the Boggy Creek riparian zone: its cultural history, its importance in the urban ecosystem, and the greenbelt’s natural beauty. The installations were designed and built during a 10-week summer program referred to as Public Interest Design, or PID.
The Riparian Zone installation draws attention to the ecosystem of Boggy Creek. It frames the riparian vegetation along the edge of the park and invites the viewer to pass through to the creek.
The Canopy installation provides an intimate experience of nature with a reclined seat for viewing the tree canopy above.
The Human Intervention installation highlights local human intervention within the natural landscape by displaying materials reclaimed from man-made structures and orienting views from the hike and bike trail toward the channel.

Situated on a unique corner lot in Dolores Heights, this single family home benefits from the surrounding park-like public land and Monterrey pine tree grove. A careful sequence follows the slope and curates the vertical movement through the home from earthbound experience to the open sky and panoramic views.
The double-height glazed entry leads the guest to the sweeping views gained on the main living level. A set of operable wood louvers at the main living level provide protection from the Western sunlight by day and transform the house into a glowing wooden box at night. The expansive panoramic connections to the city on the sleeping level can be enjoyed from the balconies of the Master Bedroom as well as the children’s rooms.
