Laura Guttridge studied philosophy from one of the country’s most prestigious college philosophy departments at The University of Central Florida. She is a former swimsuit model, a respectable author as well as an animal activist. The children’s book, ‘Gypsy The Christmas Cat’ is written by Laura and it is based on a real life cat named Gypsy.

This book teaches children to show love and respect towards animals. Laura was widely appreciated for writing a book that introduces children to values such as trust, compassion and patience.Laura Guttridge cares for animals and strives hard to bring awareness to their suffering.

She participated in many campaigns and protests and raised her voice against the mistreatment of animals used for entertainment, meat, experimentation, fur, etc. In the early 1990's she founded a small grass-roots animal’s right's group called Marion County Voices for Animals. This animal right's group was located in Ocala, Florida.

Laura was the president of MCVA when they helped successfully encouraged the Marion County Animal Shelter to stop using the outdated decompression chamber, and switch to the more humane lethal injection. In 2002 she was a top signature gatherer for a ballot initiative that banned the cruel confinement of pigs on factory farms in Florida. Moreover, she promoted a vegetarian lifestyle by taking part in PETA’s vegetarian starter kit campaigns.

About Laura Guttridge

Laura Guttridge is an animal activist, a former successful swimsuit model and an author. She is highly educated with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the prestigious Philosophy Department at The University of Central Florida. She is also the author of the children’s book Gypsy the Christmas Cat which teaches children about trust, patience and compassion towards animals.

The book is based on a real life cat named Gypsy that the author rescued many years ago. Children learn about giving unconditional love, kindness and a home to animals. She has received many awards for protecting animals such as The 2007 Humanitarian of The Year Award from The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County. She is on the Board of Directors for The Animal Rights Foundation of Florida and she also established Marion County Voices for Animals.
