WHY?

I filmed the monologue to display exactly what

Laura’s feelings are to our audience to enable to me

to explain how exactly Laura’s character addresses

our secondary audience and appeals to our primary

audience.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Laura’s character and the narrative of her

character will appeal to our Target Audience

because they may be able to recognise the

stereotypical portrayal of a teenagers problems.

Moreover the Target Audience will be able to

challenge the common stereotype of people of the

working class being involved in crime. Not only

because Laura is questioning whether she wishes to

be involved in crime but also because the audience

will recognise the stereotype and be able to actively

challenge.

Finally, the Target Audience will be able to receive

an amount of Information and Surveillance of youth

culture and pressures. This is because they will learn

about the pressure and problems Laura is

experiencing. The will also learn about the

motivations behind crime amongst the working class

and amongst youths.

SECONDARY AUDIENCE

Our secondary Audience are people of income

bracket C2 to E and between the age of 18-25. The

monologue elucidates the stereotypical issues faced

by youth, such as having troubles fitting in or being

a victim of peer pressure.

The monologue references criminal activity (theft)

and states “…they steal all the time…”, which

conveys the ideology and stereotypical

representation that people of the working class are

often involved with theft. This may provide personal

identity for certain members of the secondary

audience who perhaps are living in a council house,

or having little money.

Laura’s character provides personal identity for

them with either past or present experiences of

trying to fit in or being a victim of peer pressure.

This is because the secondary audience are young-

adults who will have recently been in the life stage,

which Laura is currently in. For this reason they may

identify with some of her troubles and will

understand and relate to her character.
