Every year StuCo hosts the annual Mock Rock. It’s where the students of FHN can perform in front of other their peers and show off their moves.

Although there were many performers there were not many people for them to perform for. This year only about 100 students attended Mock Rock, when usually there is a full house, which is about 324 audience members.

“I think the advertising hasn’t been as good as it has been the past few years,” emcee Ashley Campise said. “It’s a bummer because it was a good show, and their were many good acts this year.”

A typical Mock Rock show consists of students dancing and lip-syncing to a song, and then judges will vote on who they think deserves first place, second place, and third place. The first place winners were seniors Nathan Bryant and Andrew Hairlson. They did an act to the song “A whole new world” from Aladdin.

It all started a long time ago, junior year, in french, Bryant and Hairlson sat next to each other in class and were watching Aladdin, except it was in the language French and when a whole new world came on Andrew started serenading Nathan and

Lee, who also was in the class. “We were laughing and we new we wanted to

do it but we didn’t know if we would get a chance,” Bryant said. “When Mock Rock rolled around we knew we were going to do it and it would be amazing.”

It takes a lot of hard work and practice for most of the Mock Rock performers. Many people get nervous in front of their peers and are scared to perform, except for Bryant and Hairlson.

“It was the day before at the dress rehearsal,” Bryant said. “When we were there we had nothing planned, so everything was improved, and they loved it and the people there gave us little tid bits of stuff and gave us ideas and we ran with it. Pretty much everything you saw and what we did was made up on the spot the day before and it couldn’t have been better.”

In third place were performers Katie Bailey and Laurel Reese, in second place was Anthony Jackson and in first place were Bryant and Hairlson. Because of the low attendance first place was $150 when normally it would have been $250.

“It wasn’t for the money,” Bryant said. “It was the comedy.”
