Engagement Ideas for Whole Class Courses

WARM-UP Review the lesson goals presented with students.

Have students record the key vocabulary in their course notebooks (also available in the glossary).

Discuss and respond to interactive questions and practice items.

INSTRUCTION Students should take notes while engaging in the lesson instruction.

Use the built-in eNotes to model notetaking for students.

Ask for class volunteers to help complete interactive practices, such as drag and drop items.

Students will answer individual questions in their course notebooks.

Consider pausing halfway through the instruction to ask students to recap what they have learned.

SUMMARY Use the summary activity to have students check their notes.

Students can share out key points they heard restated in the summary.

Give students time to add key points to their notes as needed.

ASSIGNMENT Students will record answers to the assignment in their course notebook.

Consider having students work in pairs or small groups to complete the assignment.

If there is a reading passage, ask for a volunteer to read it aloud to the class. Have the class review the

details before working on the assignment questions.

Take a few minutes to review the correct answers to the questions after they finish. (Log as an Educator

to access the correct answers from Courses > Course Structures in the activity direct link.

QUIZ Create a quiet and secure testing environment for the class.

Remind students to respond to each question to their best ability.

Decide whether you will let students use their lesson notes on the quiz.

Give students enough time to answer each quiz question.

Determine how you will grade the quizzes (i.e. peer-grading) and record quiz grade in the gradebook.
