  • A message from our Principal… A quick update of some key events that have happened this week:

We had a team from the Assets Management Unit come for a visit. In Term 3, some of our buildings will be getting

a new roof! The blocks involved will be: the Admin block, blocks with Kindergarten Red and Kindergarten Blue,

Mrs Denton’s room, as well as the block with 3/4S, 3/4L and some of our Learning Support Staff. This will cause

some minor disruption for each of the classes, where they will need to relocate for a few days, however, the project

manager has assured me they will complete as much as possible during the holiday period.

We had Craig Taylor, our Health and Safety Consultant come to deliver some professional learning around Health

Care Plans and our Employee Assistance Program. It was great for our staff to have someone like Craig available

to answer any questions we had.

We were also very grateful that Mrs Doherty organised Phil Kettle, a renowned author to come in and speak with

our students and staff. Phil had many inspiring stories and passed on many ways to generate ideas to make the

    most engaging stories take shape!

Good luck to our district cross country runners tomorrow!! We know you’ll do your best and all of LPS is behind

    you!

    See you all soon

    Brett

CHICKENPOX We have recently had a case of Chickenpox within the school. Chickenpox and shingles (varicella- zoster) are a highly contagious virus and a member of the herpes family. The disease is usually mild in children but can be more severe in adults and can cause serious illness.

    Signs and symptoms

    Mild fever

    Runny nose

    Fatigue

    General rash

Chickenpox is spread by coughing and direct contact with an infected person. Children are usually infectious 2 days before the rash appears. If you suspect that your child has Chickenpox, we request that you keep your child at home.

For further information please refer to the information on the NSW Health website:

    https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/factsheets/Pages/Chickenpox.aspx

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS Our school relies on the voluntary contributions to provide additional resources. This ensures our students have the best possible learning opportunities and environment.

The voluntary school contribution for 2019 has been kept at $30.00 per student, this equates to only a little more than .70c per child per school week.

Thank you to all parents and carers who have already paid this voluntary contribution.

The contribution can still be paid at the office or on line.

    Thankyou for your continued support.

    SPEECH PATHOLOGY STUDENTS

CSU Speech Pathology Students: Sinead Brennan, Rachel Fletcher, Nicole Rajnsz, Caitlin Ahern, Rachael Jenkinson, Zoe Sibbald, Rebecca Blessing and Beth Knox are at Lavington PS for 6 weeks on a SpICE (Specialist Integrated Community Engagement) placement.

The SpICE students met with Helen Sheather (Co-Ordinator Family Friendly Mental Health Strategy) to discuss current Mental Health strategies that can be used with children.

The students are divided into two groups. Group 1 is observing and implementing relationship strategies and Group 2 is investigating outside agencies who are able to provide food for lunches, girls cooking program and home packs for families.

If you would like to be involved with either project can you contact Helen Berndt.

  • SCHOOL SPORT

    KNOCKOUT NETBALL

Last Friday Lavington PS played a thrilling game of netball against Thurgoona PS.

Unfortunately Thurgoona PS were too good on the day, and we are therefore out of the competition.

Congratulations to all the girls who played.

    RIVERINA NETBALL

Congratulations to Ellie Lyons who was this week selected in the Riverina PSSA Netball team.

This is a fabulous achievement by Ellie, who as Year 5 student, was named in the Centre position for the upcoming carnival.

Ellie and her team head to Orange in late July for what will be an excellent competition, the NSWPSSA Championships.

It has been quite a while since our school has had a representative in the Riverina netball team.

    Congratulations Ellie!

    KNOCKOUT GIRLS SOFTBALL

Tocumwal Public proved tough opposition for our girls in the second round of the State Knockout competition. Our Lavington girls tried their best but were beaten by a more experienced team.

This is now the end of the road for our softball team unfortunately.

We would like to thank Tina Moffatt who coached the girls, as well as the parents who provided transport to and from Tocumwal.

    Albury Zone Touch Football

Congratulations to our four talented touch footy players who trialled for the Albury Zone team last week.

Ella Semple and Brooke Cozens (Girls) and Archer Carroll and Finn McDonnell (Boys) now head off to the Riverina PSSA trials later in the term.

We wish them all the best.

    Albury Zone Cross Country

Tomorrow a team of over 50 long distance runners head to the Albury Zone Cross Country event.

These were the students who finished in the top seven positions from our school Cross Country.

Good luck to all these competitors!

    Enjoy the day kids!

    Albury Zone Athletics

The Albury Zone Athletics day was interrupted by terrible weather and unfortunately some of the events had to be postponed. The ‘catch up’ date for these events has now been set and will take place on Wednesday 29 May 2019 from 12pm.

The students from our school required to attend the day will be our Junior and Senior relay teams, 1500m runners, 11yr Boys High Jump, Junior Discuss, 11yr Girls High Jump and Senior Boys High Jump. Permission notes will go out to these boys and girls.

A bus will take the students to and from the track, with one LPS staff member attending with the students.

Thanks to the Albury Zone executive for all their efforts in making this happen for our students. It is great they get an opportunity to participate.

Fingers crossed for fine weather on this day!
