+Federal: The Endangered Species Act

Provides a program for the conservation of threatened and endangered plants and animals and the habitats in which they are found.

Prohibits any action that causes a “taking” of any listed species of endangered fish or wildlife. Likewise, import, export, interstate, and foreign commerce of listed species are all generally prohibited.

+State: North Carolina Endangered Species Act

The statute empowers the Wildlife Resources Commission to list species and also outlines the criteria for listing.

Under this act it is unlawful to take, possess, transport, sell, barter, trade, exchange, export, or offer of sale, barter, trade, exchange or export, or give away for any purpose including advertising or other promotional purpose any animal on a protected wild animal list.
