The firmly wedged diagonal provides
the scaffolding with the necessary
safety thanks to dependable bracing:
simply insert it at the top and fix it at
the bottom using the wedge coupler.
Verticality is always quick to fix,
though the inclination of the frame
can be adjusted according to the
building tolerances.
All Layher scaffolding decks – which
double as a work surface and as a
dependable self-reinforcement –
always provide a safe working area
even at highest heights and in
difficult weather conditions.

Layher SpeedyScaf, a perfected and
complete system for all building
requirements. That means safety and
speed in any application, at any site
and in any conditions.
The assembly frames determine the
scaffolding width, with the other
system parts being suitable for all
scaffolding widths and forming the
basis for maximum versatility:
Scaffolding, 0.73 m wide,steel, hot-dip-galvanised:As facade scaffolding for both
scaffolding contractors and for
craftsmen, for any jobs, outdoors or
indoors.
Scaffolding, 0.73 m wide,durable aluminium:As facade scaffolding for all
professionals who like to have it
easy. Lightweight scaffolding means
fast and non-fatiguing assembly and
dismantling, and transport using
lighter vehicles.
Scaffolding, 1.09 m wide,steel, hot-dip-galvanised:As facade scaffolding – with frame
1.09 m wide – for all jobs calling for
wide scaffolding and high load-
bearing capacities.
The optimised-for use and sturdy
scaffolding decks can be selected to
suit your particular requirements
from a wide range, to fit scaffolding
bay lengths of 1.57 m, 2.07 m, 2.57 m,
3.07 m and 4.14 m (type-tested).
Layher SpeedyScaf®: So variable.

The wedge locking system for the
guard rails sits firmly, helps stiffen the
structure, and enhances the feeling of
safety.
All the connections in the system are
bolt-free – just insert. That's economy
in its purest form.
One of the main advantages of
SpeedyScaf is the simplicity of its
assembly and dismantling. Simplicity
means time savings and hence cost
savings and bigger profits. That's an
effect much appreciated by scaffolding
contractors and by craftsmen alike.
The Layher scaffolding decks are
simply hooked into the channel section
on the frame; that means very fast
assembly with optimum safety – and
there's a free choice of decks made
from steel, aluminium and wood;
for any application.

Assembly

A few basic components, plus useful and well-designed accessories, form the basis for economical scaffolding construction.
Since ergonomic aspects such as handiness and low weight for all components have an effect on the erection time,
the load-bearing capacity and dead weight of the parts have been optimally matched to one another.
Assembly with basic components1 Base out by laying the guardrails alongside the facade;this marks the assembly position of the scaffolding. No measurement work for setting out is necessary. Place the adjustable base plates at the required distancefrom the wall on a load-distributing surface. Hang the U starter transom (only in the ladder access bay) from theadjustable base plates, then insert the deck. Set up thefirst two assembly frames and connect them to the guardrail.
2 Place the deck in these assembly frames. Using a spirit level on the guard rail, align the scaffolding bay longitudinally by appropriate spindle adjustment. Then vertically adjust the assembly frame in its axis. Insert and fix the diagonal brace. Aligning the wedgehalf-coupler with the marker hole (Euro Speedy Frame)achieves a perpendicular alignment transversely to the frame axis. A horizontal strut is needed only in the diagonal bay. Place the next assembly frame on the base plates, connect with the guard rail and insert the deck.
3 Next, assemble the adjacent scaffolding bays, withthe sequence of the work always remaining the same:

Assembly with basic components4 In the next scaffolding level start with the first scaffolding bay. The further working steps are repeated on every scaffolding level:
Set up assembly frame Attach guard rail Insert deck Insert toe board Insert and fix diagonal brace
Ladders are arranged in an offset pattern. Constructthe scaffolding level in the same way as the lower level. Install any anchoring necessary straight away. This is the only way to ensure the stability of the scaffolding during actual assembly.
5 On the top level, insert end guard rail supports andthe three-piece side protection (guard rails and toeboard).
6 Depending on local regulations, a guard rail mustbe provided ahead of the rest of the structure duringassembly. This rail is assembled bay by bay from thealready secured scaffolding level.

Assembly
Standard assemblySimple, safe, fast and very strong – those are the requirements placed on modern scaffolding: SpeedyScaf meets all
these requirements. With its basic components – assembly frame, adjustable base plates, scaffolding decks, guardrails,
diagonal braces and toe boards – scaffolding is assembled for the facade in a logical sequence. Depending on the roof
projection, optimum adjustment is achieved using console brackets.

Gable scaffoldingAlignment and assembly
Console bracket 0.5 m / 0.73 m
9 By installing 0.5 m (or 0.73 mbrackets with bolted-on spigot),the existing bay width can bereduced by 0.5 m.
7 For gable scaffolding, the middlescaffolding bays (preferably the access bays) are aligned with the ridge.
Further assembly, usually symmetrical, follows on both sides.
The scaffolding is optimally adjustedto the roof angle by appropriateselection of the bay lengths.
Aluminium Bridging-ledger
8 For large roof overhangs, the installation of aluminium bridgingledgers is ideal. Spigots on alu-minium bridging ledgers hold theassembly frames above them andpermit a step-by-step reduction ofthe bay width.

14 Version with 0.73 m bracketon the outside: If the scaffoldingis widened with a 0.73 m bracketin the closing level, a flat andgap-free transition in the cornerarea is possible in conjunctionwith a 1.57 m long bay fitted atthe end.

The examples show the standard application. Any length
adjustment needed is performed as shown on page 19.
10 For a gap-free transition at the corner the frames are positioned flush.

17 Length adjustment in the middle of the scaffoldingdepending on bay lengths: The scaffolding is positioned left and right, with the fitted bay in approximately the centre of the scaffolding. In the adjustment bay, lapped steel planks or scaffolding boards are used for the deck, with telescopicguard rail or with tubes and couplers fitted as side protection.
15 In the case of inclined terrain, assembly starts at the highestpoint. In conjunction with adjustment frames – 0.66 m, 1.0 mand 1.5 m – problem-free adjustment of the scaffolding to the lieof the ground is possible. The installation of the swivellingadjustable base 60 is recommended for even transmission of the loads.

Scaffolding access27 Internal ladder access 27 For scaffolding access, internal ladder access
(standard solution), access decks with integrated or
separate ladder, or external platform stairs are available.
28 The external platform stair access is the appropriate
alternative when craftsmen of various trades are working
on the scaffolding. Decks are provided in full for the
working platform.
29 The SpeedyScaf stairway tower is the preferred
access to higher working areas.
The stairs are installed in parallel (Fig. 28) or alternating
(Fig. 29) directions, and permit rapid and safe access to
the working area.

0.5 m
Facades with projections can be scaffolded when scaffoldingsections are offset: The last assembly frame of the innerscaffolding section and the first frame of the outer section are 0.5 m apart. In this way the system lengths can be maintained. A bracket of the appropriate width is attached to the last-but-oneassembly frame of the inner scaffolding section. The remaining inner gap between the assembly frame is covered by a lappedsteel plank.
34 Projections, e.g. oriel windows or balconies, are easily provided with scaffolding using brackets of appropriate length. On the projecting sections decks of the required length (max. 4.14 m),cover the space between the brackets.

Tab. 9 Basic rules for erection
In the open H–a ≤ 3–1
Hmax. = 12 m
In closed areas H–a ≤ 4–1
Hmax. = 20 m
Freestanding scaffolding is required when it cannot or
may not be anchored to the facade.
Here the basic rules of standard DIN 4420, Section 5.4,
must be complied with.
In the open: up to a maximum platform height of 12 m
the ratio of height to smallest base side length must not
exceed 3:1.
In closed areas: up to a platform height of 20 m the ratio
of height to smallest base side length must not exceed 4:1.
The ratios quoted apply only for scaffolding
with steel assembly frames.

The Assembly Frame pin pallet is an optimised and low-costsolution for vertical palletising. It holds up to 20 assembly framesand is dimensioned such that 3 pallets 0.73 m in width can beplaced side by side on the truck loading surface. Fork guides and a central rung ensure absolute safety against tilting during fork-lift transport.

In the Universal pallet, either 12 assembly frames, 0.73 m, or 10 robust decks, 0.61 m, or 24 wide steel decks, 0.32 m, can be stored flat and transported and stacked by crane or fork-lifter. The pallet posts only have to be changed round when the stackedmaterial changes.

Pallets
Layher Pallets help to save labour and costs for storage,
transport, assembly and inventory control. All pallet types
have been developed on the basis of practical experience.
A truck with a loading crane can handle the entire
material transport work, including loading and unloading
in the warehouse and at the sites. The warehouse is
better organised and counting processes are speeded up,
hence saving costs. The material is stored flat or upright,
tidy and ready to hand, for availability at the installation
site in the shortest possible time. The crane or the fork-lift
can be used to move the filled pallets and shorten the
transport distances. Scaffolding parts are removed from
the pallets on site with a scaffolding hoist. The pallets
may only be used close to the ground and must not be
lifted above personnel. All pallets are suitable for fork-lift
or crane transport, full pallets are stackable to save
storage space.
The Logi pallet guarantees optimum transport and storage offrames, decks, guard rails, diagonal braces, toe boards, standards, ledgers, tubes and much else. The loaded pallet is lifted up withthe fork-lift or crane, and the stacked material is taken directlyfrom the pallet by the fork-lift. Up to five pallets can be stacked on top of one another on suitable ground. The tubes are stored inthe lower pallet frame when the empty pallet is transported.
L x W 1.37 x 0.97 m, permissible load capacity 1.5 t
The hot-dip-galvanised Skeleton box in standardised Europeandimensions is stackable with Euro pallets. The upper part hascrane eyelets. A lateral opening allows stacked material to be removed even when several pallets are stacked one above theother.

Software
Keeping costs under control means consistently cutting
production and erection times and optimising the
material use. There is further potential for rationalisation
in logistics, in palletising, scaffolding hoists and the use
of scaffolding-specific software.
Here too Layher can offer convincing solutions. From the
very beginning, Layher has sought to apply electronic
data processing to reduce the work involved in scaffolding
planning, organisation and accounting, and has
developed practical programs.
Scaffolding PlannerWith the Layher Scaffolding Planner, you can calculate in seconds how much material is needed for facadescaffolding using Layher SpeedyScafcomponents. With the optional equalizer module, photos taken with a digital camera can be imaged true to scale. The program proposes astructure, on the basis of your specifications, including anchoring, bracing and side protection, and in accordance with the approvals or typetests. The material list is created by the push of a key and can be printedout immediately together with the assembly sketch.
Layher GBMFor economical handling of technical and commercial tasks.Dimensioning, preparation of quotations, writing of invoicesand printing out of accounts are the main areas covered bythis program.Available only in German language.
MAPMAXWith MAPMAX, you create a three-dimensional model of the structure to be scaffolded, including walls, gables and balconies. MAPMAX is fast and simple, and offers new ways of – for example – directly shortening or extending scaffoldingplanes using the mouse. Even complex scaffolding structurescan be created using this ambitious program.

Whatever the building which needs
scaffolding looks like, whatever the
angle at which the walls are to one
another, with offset wall planes,
oriel windows or gabled roof
windows; with SpeedyScaf there's
always an economical solution.
Lattice girders are available for
entrances or other building parts
which have to be bridged.
For heights up to 80 m, the 0.73 m
wide scaffolding can be assembled
in accordance with type test Ty 9/96,
while greater heights required
individual verification of structural
strength.

Round scaffolding is just as easy to
put up using SpeedyScaf equipment.
The assembly frames are connected
to one another at the inner standard
by swivel couplers. The bay lengths
must be selected such that the per-
missible distances from the walls are
not exceeded.
Even complex tower buildings can
be dependably scaffolded. Depend-
ing on the form and facade design,
the scaffolding is supplemented with
system-linked or system-free lattice
girders.

Scaffolding for industry frequently
involves unusual requirements when
it comes to load capacity and
adaptability. Machines and plants
have to be serviced and repaired,
apparatus and equipment has to be
fitted, and electrical units have to
be replaced.
With its permissible load capacities
of up to 6.0 kN/m2 and a large num-
ber of useful extras and accessories,
SpeedyScaf permits economical use
in this field too.

SpeedyScaf in conjunction with
Protect and roof systems provide
perfect protection against the
weather and for the environment.
Cassette roofs afford dependable
protection of the site from above and
thus help to shorten building times.
Repairs to roofs or the addition of
new storeys to buildings can,
particularly in conjunction with side
coverings (Keder or Protect System)
be performed regardless of weather
conditions.
The Protect System forms an effective
cover. Fine facades are protected,
and work is possible in contaminated
areas too, for example in asbestos
clearance.
