Layoff Benefits Information2020
Benefits End When will my benefits end?
Your Board paid benefits coverage will end the last day of the month in which you last worked - 6/30/2020.
So then what happens?You will be entitled to Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) – continuation of group medical coverage for employee and applicable dependent(s).
What COBRA Provides? Continuation of same plans, except you pay the
premium
Continuation of Health, Dental and Vision Coverage
Board overage ends 6/30/2020 and COBRA will begin 7/1/2020
Allows continuation for eighteen (18) months
Election form will be mailed to your home address, listed in Employee Self-Service (ESS)
Additional COBRA Information Rates include a 2% Administrative Fee
Packet will be sent by Benefits Outsource, Inc. (BOI) on behalf of Aetna and CompBenefits/Humana and Interactive Medical Systems on behalf of MetLife Dental.
Choose all, none or some combination of benefits.
You have a 60-day election period from the date coverage is lost or from the date of notice.
Effective retroactively (retroactive payment is required).
Other benefits… Vacation Hours – automatically paid out in accordance with Board Policy
or Bargaining Agreement
Sick Leave Hours – other than TSP Contract, only paid if you retire
Flexible Spending Accounts – utilize funds through 6/30/2020 or by the end of the month in which you separate
Life Insurance – apply within thirty (30) days of separation – contact the Benefits Department to obtain form and instructions
Disability – apply within thirty (31) days of separation – packet on the Benefits Department’s website by selecting “Our Departments” then Leaves
Voluntary Insurances (i.e., cancer and critical illness/accident.) – may continue but need to contact carrier directly
Florida Retirement System (FRS) – depends on vesting (call FRS to confirm 1-844-377-1888). Contact the Benefits Department at 754-321-3100 to schedule an appointment
If you are recalled… If you are rehired on or prior to your calendar start date, your benefits will be reinstated the
first of the following month.o Example - an instructional employee:
Calendar Start Date/Recalled on or prior to 8/12/2020 (between 7/2 – 8/12/2020)Benefits effective first of the following month 9/1/2020
o Example - a non-instructional employee:Calendar Start Date/Recalled on or prior to 7/15/2020 (between 7/2 – 7/15/2020)Benefits effective first of the following month 8/1/2020
o Terminated and rehired within the same month:Example: Separation date 7/1/2020 and rehired 7/15/2020, NO lapse in coverage
Please note, fiscal year 2020 - 2021 starts on 7/1/2020. ************************************************************************************************

What is The EAP?The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is designed to help
employees solve personal problems that may or may not affect job performance.
It is an employee benefit program;
It works towards total wellness of BCPS employees and their families;
It’s services are free.
What About Confidentiality?
The EAP is a confidential service where records are covered by federal law with few legal exceptions.
EAP file is treated the same as a medical file and can never become part of your personnel file.
EAP Services Include An extensive intake assessment
Referral to appropriate resources
Supportive follow-up care management
Consultation for Supervisors/Administrators on services
Design and conduct trainings as requested by the location to meet their needs
