Fully Automatic Labelling ofCreme Pots (Top and/or Base)

This machine is designed for fully automatic labelling ofcreme pots. This version enables the manufacturer of theproduct to place a label on the top of the product. Anotherversion to apply a label on the bottom of the product is avai-lable. This unit can be installed as a stand-alone orinline-system.

The following options are available:different printers available to imprint variable information, fullcovering of the basic frame, movable operation panel, labelpre indication etc.

The picture on the left side shows a label applicator (model Rapid S),a label alignment station, a handing over device for applying the labelon the product and a product alignment device as well as a productseparator.

The pots are fed in automatically and are separated by a gating system.At the next step the product is stopped and aligned prior thelabelling process.

The label is applied under a vacuum pad where it will be aligned. Afterthe alignment of the label the handing over device applies the label ontop of the pot.

The accuracy of this system is approximately. +-0,5 mm.

Fully Automatic Labelling of Lying Cylindric Products

This machine is a fully automatic labelling machi-ne to fix a label wrapped round on lying cylindricproducts like ampoules, syringes or vials.

The machine is equipped with an automaticunstacker and our dispenser Rapid 80. A hotfoilco-der is fitted onto the dispenser to imprint variabledata on the label.

The product is transported by a pulsed roll convey-or, driven by a stepper motor.Instead of the hotfoilcoder the machine can beequipped with a thermal transfer printer also.

The user fills the unstacker with the products, to be labelled. Dependingon the product size the unstacker can store up to 500 products. Theproducts will be unstacked and separated when they leave the unstacker.

At the outfeed of the conveyor the products get their lateral orientationby the lateral guiding rails.

Now the product arrives the labelling and the tur-ning device with the help of the pulsed roll convey-or. As soon as it reaches the photocell, the dispen-ser, the hot foil coder and the turning device recei-ve their start pulses. The label will be applied. Inthe same moment the rubber roll touches the pro-duct softly and puts it into rotation.The label will be dispensed on the product veryaccurately and without wrinkles and bubbles.

Fully Automatic Labellingof Cabbage- or Flower Bags

This machine allows a fully automatic labelling ofcabbage- and flower bags. You can find theme.g. when you buy cabbage- or flowerpots pak-ked in these transparent bags.

So you have the possibility to fix a label on yourproducts which shows barcodes, product infor-mation, special price label or marketing strategicactions.

The user puts the coherent bags into the emptyunstacker (see picture below).

After the stockspace is filled the unstacker isready for the automatic labelling.

Two vacuum suckers take the 1st pack of the bags. After this step we activatea slide valve to break the static charge between the bag packs. Without thisslide valve it is very difficult and sometimes impossible to get over the pro-blems caused by the static charge to separate the bag packs.

The unit with the vacuum suckers puts the packs onto the conveyor whichtransfers the bags to the labelling station.

After the bag pack arrives at the destination we fix it on the right side ontothe conveyor. After every bag a small rightturning plastic roll tautens thebag on the left side. Now, a vacuum plate with the label moves down andfixes the label on the bag. This machine is equipped with a simple stan-dard dispenser, because the customer only uses preprinted labels. Othersolutions e.g. machine equipped with thermal transfer printer or hot foilcoder are possible to print variable data onto the label (e.g. date of packa-ging).

After the machine finishes labelling the complete bag pack, the pack leaves thelabelling station via the conveyor. If requested the complete pack can be label-led also on the other side or can leave the machine to be packaged.(right picture shows the labelling and the station for separation of the single bags)

Fully Automatic Labelling ofbooks, CDs, MCs and DVDs

This machine is a fully automatic print and apply system to fix alabel on flat products e.g. books, CDs, MCs or DVDs. The machineis equipped with thermal transferprinter from Intermec, type 501E. So you have the possibility to fix a label on your product whichshows product information like barcodes, ISBN, price, title etc.

We equipped the printer with a special interface which realizes thecommunication between our microprocessor control box and thecontrol unit of the printer.

The transport of the printed labels from the printer to dispenser is realized bya loop control (see right picture). If the loop control is empty (only a few prin-ted labels) the thermal transferprinter receives a signal from the microproces-sor control unit to start print job until there are enough labels in stock.

The printed labels are forwarded to the dispenser and the rewinder rewinds theempty backing web. The products can be put manually on the conveyor or themachine can work in line also.

The product arrives with the conveyor at the dispenser where the label isfixed on the top side of the product.

A labelling of top and bottom is also possible to fix a additional label whichshows e.g. „special price“, “bonus track incl.” or “book tip of the year”.Therefore the machine be equipped with an additional dispenser or the pro-duct has to put with the not labelled side on the top on to the conveyor. Soyou can see the machine is very flexible.We round up the package with special label-design software packages whichwe have also in our sales range.

The right picture gives you a little overview about the products which can belabelled with this machine.The pallet reaches from small, thin products over formats like CDs, DVDs,MCs up to big posterbooks.

If requested, the machine can be equipped with following options:controll of barcode, ejection of not labelled products, countercheck for ejec-ted products, label- and transferribbon control, stacker and unstacker etc.

Fully Automatic Labelling of PensThis machine is a fully automatic print- and apply-system to fix a label on nearly all kinds of pens.The machine is equipped with a thermal transfer-printer from Zebra, type 90 XiIII. So you have thepossibility to fix a label on your pens which showsproduct information like barcodes, price, which dia-meter of lead etc.The thermal transferprinter is equipped with a spe-cial interface which realizes the communicationbetween our control box and the control unit ofthe printer.The machine can be integrated in nearly every exi-sting system or can work stand-alone. If themachine should work stand-alone we recommendan automatic unstacker at the infeed and a collec-tor at the outfeed of the system.

Depending on the product-diameter the unstackercan store between 200 and 500 products. They willbe unstacked and separated.

Due to alternately movements of the racks the pro-ducts will be unstacked and transferred to theconveyor.

The form of the product is not flat and the capacity of this machinehad to be 60 products / min. So we decided to label the product intwo different steps.

The first station was responsible for applying of the label onto theproduct. With the aid of a second pneumatic stamp we pressed thelabel completely onto the product.

If requested the product can be transferred onto another conveyoror into a collecting box.

The first pneumatic stamp picks up the labelat the dispensing beak and fixes it ontothe pen.

The conveyor brings the product forwardunder the pressing on stamp to guarantee aperfect bond on the product.

Fully Automatic Labelling Machinefor Canisters – Type KEM

This machine is constructed to fix a label onto the lateral sideof canisters. It can be integrated in nearly all production linese.g. after the filling machine. In this application the labels arelonger than one side of the canisters.So they have to be rolled on at the rear of the canister. Thisis done by a springbeared arm. As an option, the machine canbe equipped with different print engines to imprint variable orfix data. It is also possible to equip the unit with a barcodes-canner to countercheck the printed data or to have a kind ofa label presence detection.

The left picture shows the different kind of products which can be labelled by thismachine. The machine is very variable and can be set up to another product formatwithout a plenty of time. In this application the customer works with hazard labelsand warning signals on the labels. The machine is constructed in protection modeIP54, which means dust and splash proof. It is made mainly of stainless steel.

The products are passing the labelling station. If the sensor detects the canister,the machine applies the label to the front edge of the canister and rolls the labelon. Due to the fact, that the labels in those kinds of application become moreand more plastic labels, we had to solve the static charge to place the label wit-hout any shrinkles on the surface of the product.

After applying the label onto the canister, thecanisters are running are passing the automa-tic rollon-station.

This guarantees the shrinklefree apply of thelabels.

Fully Automatic Labelling System for Cardboards – Type FSM

This machine is a fully automatic labelling machine to fix alabel on the top of flat products from magazine to magacin.Typical applications are labelling of cardboards, letterheads,envelopes or plastic bags.

This version is equipped with a standard dispenser RapidS60. Other combinations with thermal transfer printers,direct foil coders or hot foil coders are possible to printvariable data either directly onto the product or on a labelwhich should be fixed onto the product.

Both magacins are mechanical adjustable to the differentproduct sizes. The maximum product dimensions are 300mm x 400 mm (standard, other sizes as an option).

The products have to been put into the right magacin (see right picture).

A special device unstacks the products and they are transported through themachine.

The products arrive at the marking station (in this example a Rapid dispen-ser) where they are marked in intermittend or continuous mode.

After the marking station the pro-ducts are transported out of themachine where they fall down in thecollecting magacin, where they arestacked again. Both magazine can befilled and discharged during the auto-matic rung.

The big advantages of this system arethe very easy handling, high accuracyand the high reliability.

Fully Automatic Labeling System for Tubes – Type TEM

This machine is a fully automatic labelling machine which is made tofix a label onto empty plastic- and metalltubes wrapped around. Thismachine is in 1st position of the complete line. The cartons with theempty tubes can be put into the infeed magazin. The magazin isalso adjustable to the different tube sizes. The tubes are separated atthe bottom of the magazin. They are rolling down on slide and they arri-ve on a device which is putting the tubes onto the horizontal turn-table. The turntable has got 8 format thorns which are responsible forthe transport of the tubes during the labelling process. They are easyto be exchange against other format thorns for other product diame-ters. The tubes can be orientated according a printmark before theyget their label wrapped around. It is also possible to equip this machi-ne with several print engines, like the Intermec 501XP to print varia-ble data onto the label before it is applied onto the product. The prin-ter is connected via a loop control with dancing rollers to a dispenserRapid S120 which allows to run also preprinted labels.

The left picture shows the final product after the labelling, filling and rabbing process.Metall- and plastictubes with different diameters can be labelled by this machine. Due tothe memoryextension of the PLC it is easy to adjust the machine onto different productsizes with only a few grips.

The left picture shows the automatic infeed device. Thetubes with the different diameters are separated in thismagazin. The products are rolling down on a slide and arri-ve at the automatic device to put the tubes onto the thornsin strokes of a second. Due to our developed “negpospres-sure”- method, we do not distort the tubes (this is normal-ly very difficult with the metalltubes). The turntables doesnow his next stroke.

In this stroke the tubes are orientated according the print-mark and are pulsed to the labelling station. The ballbearedthorns are adapted to a motor to put the thorns into rotati-on. The label will now applied wrapped around onto the tubeand it rolled on in the same step.

At the next stroke, the label presence detector is checking ifthere is a label on the tube or not. If not, the machine willsupply an error message. Then it is also possible to eject thetube.

After the tubes are labelled in the correct way, the product gets pulsed to the outfeedstation where it is will be blown out onto the outfeed conveyor, which transports thetube to the next machine e.g. a filling machine. The machine has got a capacity of 60products/min and it is easy to set up to another product size. The product will be notdistort.

As an option the machine can be equipped with: different print engines, label and rib-bon pre-indications, swivelling operation panel over the machine, full covering of thebasic frame, signallamps and different PLCs like Siemens.

Fully automatic labelling on folding boxes and cutsof all kinds (offline) – FSM type

This system is excellent for labelling and encoding flat products from one magazine to the next.Typicalproducts for this solution are, for example, folding boxes, other material cuts, letter paper,envelopes or plastic bags. Examples of how this solution is applied are variable data, serial num-bering, information on prices and content, barcodes and logos. Further applications are addressing,personalisation and the creation of small-format printing applications

A variety of printing and labelling modules are available to be mounted on the transport system. Thesystem distinguishes itself by its simple operation and excellent availability.

The material cuts run from stack to stack and are scanned by finely adjustable photo optics. Thisensures precisely positioned marking and labelling. The system facilitates constant refilling evenduring operation. The marked products are collected in the outfeed magazine and can also beremoved during operation.

Fully automatic Labelling of shaped bottles (back and front) – Type FM

The basic concept of this system is based on the requirement for labelling shaped bottles onboth sides without using moulds. The most important advantages of this are, low set-up costs,high through-put and multiple usage in various production lines. Adaptation to the respectiveproducts takes place by simply adjusting the machine components. Alignment and positionalaccuracy of the labels, can be achieved by processing label formats of up to 250 mm in heightand at a rate of up to 250 units per min. This labelling system can be used for a broad spectrum of products.

Seperating station: A variety of designs are available forproduct seperation. Depending on the output range, seperati-on either takes place via 2 pneumatic sliders (output up to60 units per min.), via a driven rubber wheel (output up to100 units per min) or via a pair of conveyor belts on bothsides (output up to 250 units per min). All three versions canbe easily adjusted to other product sizes in a matter ofseconds, without the use of tools.

Product alignment station: If the product is not a rectangularcontainer, but a formedbottle, the productalignment system is crucial for precision labelling.This operation is performed by means of a chain driven, productorientation unit.Owing to the nature of the chain, the shaped bottle only makescontact at a few points during alignment process and is not mar-ked, or damaged in any way. The product alignment station isadjusted by means of a manual spindle. All adjustment units ofthe system are equipped with reference markings, to ensuremaximum adjustment with little use of tools.

Wrap-around and formed bottle mode:The basic machine includes lateral labelling of form bottles.This can take place on one or two sides. With certain bottleclosures, additional labelling from above would be appro-priate. A system extension is available in the form of awrap-around module to enable cylindrical products to belabelled in addition to the formed bottles. Fully automatic labelling on flatproducts – VFP type

The fully automatic machines of the VFP series can easily be integrated into any existing line and aresuitable for labelling a variety of products. However, the machines can also be operated off-line by fee-ding in the products by hand or by means of an optional magazine. The products can be restacked at theoutfeed in an optional outfeed magazine.

On request we also produce the machine with various coding devices (thermal transfer printers, inkencoders, hot stamping unit, relief embossing unit or book printing ink unit) to put variable data ontothe label.

This type of device is distinguished by its versatility in all branches of industry and an attractiveprice/performance ratio. Another advantage is the short conversion times for product changes.

Optionally it is also available with underside labelling. The cutter edge deflection on the infeed and outfeed belt stops the products from tipping over at the belt transitions and facilitates labellingacross the entire width of the machine.

Fully automatic application ofKEG banderols

Markings on kegs were generally made under the aspect of “necessary information about, e.g. filling date, sell-by date, barcode or ingredients”. Unique manufacturer notes or indication of sortshave been short-shipped. This system for permanent or removable marking of the kegs now provides the remedy. However, special label material is required for this. The advantages at a glance:• Great flexibility thanks to strip-off labels • Optimal brand presentation • Simpler handling because the different sorts are identified faster • Costs cut by using neutral kegs. Equally, marked kegs can be reuse

The system:The products reach the labelling station via the conveyor belt. The system can be integrated intoany existing system without any problems or be operated as a stand alone system. Optionally thesystem can be equipped with a keg height identification device so that, e.g. 30l and 50l kegs canbe processed. The output of the machine is approx. 10 kegs/min.

Once the keg enters the system, it is scanned to establish its size. If the current keg is of a different size to the one processed beforehand, the system proceeds in a vertical direction.

Once the height of the system has been adjusted, the keg is raised by means of a lifting unit sothat no friction occurs on the conveyor belt during rotation. If requested, it is also possible to alignthe keg according to the handle. The two lateral rotatary belts then close. The keg is turned. Assoon as the keg is aligned, the label is dispensed underneath one of the two rotary belts and rolledevenly onto the keg (detailed picture above). Since the keg is raised and the rotation has ceased,labelling is absolutely accurate. There is also the possibility of equipping the system with a cuttingtool for processing continuous banderols. To use this there must be a revenue stamp on the banderol. A removal unit for processing strip-off labels is also available for this system.

Semi automatic application ofKEG banderols

The alternative to a fully automatic systemThis semi-automatic machine is mainly used for applying banderols to small numbers of kegs. The mobile device can dispense either banderols or labels. For dispensing banderols a cuttingtool is installed directly on the dispensing head for cutting off the banderols at the end of therevenue stamp.

The system:The KEG is placed in the machine (picture above left). The dispensing process is initiated bypressing a foot or manual button. The built-in turning station raises the keg slightly and is putinto rotation (picture above right). The label is then dispensed onto the circumference of the kegand rolled on evenly. On request the machine can be equipped with an alignment station to alignthe keg according to the handle aperture.

RAPID MINIA MIGHTY MIDGET

Equipped with one or two pneumatic traversing units, the RAPID MINI executes simple applicationtasks to furnish the product with a label both while running or standing still. And the RAPID MINIneeds only a tiny amount of space. It is controlled by means of an ultra fast, minute micro processor. The settings are transmitted to the micro processor by means of the software suppliedwith it. Once it has been configured, the PC/notebook can be withdrawn from the dispenser. Thisensures that the user cannot make any setting errors during operation. Besides on and off switches(revolving snap switches) there is a fault indicator light and an illuminated push-button switch toacknowledge the fault reset. Once the parameters have been set, the user merely replaces thelabel reel and acknowledges the process.

Fully automatic labelling systemfor cylindrical products – VRM type

As with all labelling systems from BBK this model also has a modular design. And this system alsofunctions without any form assemblies. The advantages, such as tooling costs, high availability andmultiple usages in a variety of production lines, are self-evident. Adjustment to the different productstakes place by simply setting the machine components and can be carried out without any tools.Processing label formats up to 250 mm in height at cycle rates of up to 250 units/min makes it pos-sible to cover a broad production spectrum.

Separation module:

A variety of product separation models are available.Depending on the output range separation is effected by 2pneumatic sliders (output up to 60 units/min), by a drivenrubber wheel (output up to 100 units/min) or by a pair ofconveyor belts on both sides (output up to 250 units/min). All 3 versions can easily be adjusted to other product sizeswithin a few seconds, without using any tools.

The basic version comprises the 3-roller rotating station(VRM-DS type) and is used up to an output of 50products/min. By of an option it is possible for a welding seam, print mark etc. to be used for aligning the product.It is standard for the machine to be equipped with a dispenser from the Rapid series. To apply 2 labels onto thecircumference of a cylindrical product, the front and backlabels must be arranged alternately on the carrier tape. If, however, if this is not possible a second disperser canbe attached to the rotating station. The distance between the labels can be selected variably by means of the controlsystem. This label dispenser can serve not only to apply a 2ndlabel; optionally it can also serve as a backup device. Thismeans that if the material on dispenser 1 is coming up to be changed, prior label warning reports that the supply ofmaterial is coming to an end. At this moment the controlsystem switches the start signal over from dispenser 1 to dispenser 2 to apply the label. As long as the 2nd dispenser is in action the stock of material on the empty label dispenser can be replaced. The user acknowledges the changeof material via the operating unit. The control system identifies the dispenser in standby mode and enables it againas soon as a lack of material in the 2nd dispenser is automatically reported.

For higher output rates up to 250 products/min we provide a lateral rotary belt (VRM-RB type) as an alternative to therotating station. The rotary belt can be adjusted in height by means of a handwheel. The passage width is also adjustedby means of a handwheel by adjusting the opposite rotationplate (covered with sponge rubber). The complete machine istherefore converted to another product in a matter ofseconds. Furthermore, with this system and a thicker counterpressure plate polygonal products (with at least 6 corners)can also be labelled all round. In this process the counterpressure plate fulfils a massage function.

In order to be able to benefit from theadvantages of both systems, BBK provides a combination (VRM-DSRB type) of bothrotation versions. This makes it possible tochoose variably between applying severallabels or labels aligned according to productcharacteristics and a high throughput rate.

Fully automatic labelling of large and smallcontainers by means of a VRMO-type robot

The expectations that labelling machines should be flexible are constantly rising while at the sametime the degree of automation demanded in production is also ever-increasing. Where owing to slowretooling the label transfer stations used to date are fast becoming unattractive, BBK is now backing sophisticated robot technology. If several labels are to be processed, which vary greatly interms of format, the robot automatically changes the tool required.

A robot labelling machine is subdivided into 3 sections: robot, label dispenser/label printing systemand the label transfer unit. Thanks to the fact that several projects have already been implemented,in all 3 sections a variety of alternatives are available to you. The whole system has a modular struc-ture and any configuration is feasible.

With these systems the robot assumes the task of removing the label at thedispensing edge of the relevant printer or dispenser. It positions the label on the product andstrokes, rolls, presses or blows it on. To pass the labels on to the corresponding transfer unitvarious label dispensers (for labels 0-250 mm in width) and thermal transfer printers areavailable. Combinations of, for example, 2 dispensers for hazardous goods labels and 1 ther-mal transfer printing system for a logistics label are no problem. The appropriate configurati-on depends on your application. Depending on the length and characteristics of the labels weeither use vacuum plates, vacuum tapes or vacuum plates with airboxes (blow-on unit).Thanks to the flexible programming of the robot the transfer station traverse can adapt com-pletely to the shape of the products (e.g. roll-on circular movement for vats corresponding totheir circumference). When developing transfer tools, apart from the precision functions ofthe components used, attention must be paid that they are light in weight. By observing spe-cific criteria it is possible to attain full functionality as well as the commensurate speeds ofthe individual robot axes.

Example applications:

Labelling on vats and HDPE transport containers (IBC)

This version is used to apply up to 2hazardous goods labels (100 x 100 mm)and a logistics label (110 x 297 mm) tovarious types of containers.

Owing to the chaotic order in which theproducts are infed, the machine mustchange over fully automatically betweenlabelling a 4-vat pallet and a 1000 L transport container. Both products arelabelled on a pallet-rotating station. After the first side of the product has beenlabelled (upto 6 labels on the vat pallet),the 2nd side is processed. Since there is a big difference between the label formats,the tool (vacuum plate) is also automatically changed by means of quick release mandrels.

Labelling single, double and triple pallets

This version was designed for labelling different pallets stacked on top of each other with upto 18 labels. The cycle time for this is 90 seconds. The pallets are fed into the machine.

At this moment we receive informationabout the pallet number and its origin. Atthis point in time the LabelsPlatform 3Produktmanager searches for the relevantdata record in the product database, whichis linked to the merchandise managementsystem via a standardised interface.The data record contains the parameterssuch as the label position 1 – 18 and theprinting data. The product manager trans-fers the printing data via the networkinterface (10/100 Mbit/s) to the printerand the label position to the robot. A scan-ner mounted on the robot arm verifies thedispensed label and ensures that the labelhas been applied and that the data it con-tains are correct. After working through the respective pallet a report is made back to themerchandise management system and the pallet is conveyed out of the machine.

In view of the fact that solutions availableon the market to date have been veryawkward to handle in terms of the optimalsetting for a specific type of spring, BBKhas designed a machine for the double-stroke application of flag labels to chassissprings by means of a TWINrobot.

The machine is connected to an upstreamsystem that determines the axle group ofthe respective spring. Depending on theaxle group various label layouts are provi-ded with variable data and these are madeavailable to the machine’s transfer stationsby the two printing systems. To avoid longdownload times for the print jobs the labellayouts are stored on memory cards in the two printers. This means that only the variabledata are transmitted and the label allocated according to the axle group is selected. At thesame point in time that the printing data are transmitted 2 2D barcode scanners on themachine outfeed are parameterised to check if the right label is located on the right product.However, beforehand the labels are applied around the desired spring coil in the shape of a Uand shaped into a flag thereafter. The desired overlap of the two ends of the label is checkedby 2 camera systems. Retooling times for this application were reduced from 45 minutes toless than 15. And once the product has been taught in the parameters can be convenientlyuploaded from the program memory on a 10.4” touchpanel. This reduces the time requiredfor a product change to less than 5 minutes.

Semi-automatic product labellingTNC type

Labelling your products becomes a pleasure with our semi-automatic machines. For small to medium-sized production jobs these systems provide an excellent alternative to a fully automatic machine.And the best thing about them is that up to 80% of the modules contained in the semi-automaticmachines can later be integrated into a fully automatic one. The devices can be operated as a desktopversion or as a system with a base frame of its own (mobile).

The TNC series semi-automatic machines are available in a variety of versions and configurations andcan easily be refitted for other products.

With these systems the products are inserted by hand.

Product labelling is extremely precise because flat or specially formed products are fixed in a formatreceptacle (partially mechanically adjustable to different products) and cylindrical products such ascans or bottles in a 3-roller system before the label is applied.

The labelling process is triggered by a micro switch, pressure switch, foot switch or by a light barrier.

Examples of applications and configurations:

This semi-automatic machine is available in a variety of reel widths (100 - 300 mm) and dispenser widths (60-250 mm). As an alternative to the dispenser, a thermal transfer printer can also be used to print variable labels or to fill invariable fields such as batch numbers or sell-bydates on preprinted labels.

The product is caused to rotate shortly before the actual labelling process takes place. Thanks to the 3-roller system the product is fixed exactly in position during the labelling process to preventlateral off-set.

The same device can be used to process cylindricalproducts with a diameter of 10-100 mm.

For larger diameters BBK provides an extensionpackage.

Possible applications are:Labelling on cans, bottles, ampoules, cardboard tubes, wallpaper reels, vials and aerosol cans.

Labelling tubes – TNC type

This semi-automatic machine was developed forlabelling plastic and tin tubes. In this case the tube is pushed onto a mandrel. If required thismodule can be replaced by a rotating station forcylindrical products.

As soon as the labelling process ends the labelledproduct can either be blown out manually or bymeans of compressed air.

If wished the label can be applied in line with thetube cap or a print mark.

Labelling flat products from the side – TNC-FS type

This version of the semi-automatic machine showshow flat products are labelled on the side. For thisapplication microtitre plates are furnished with apre-printed label. For this the product lies in aninterchangeable format receptacle.

Depending on the number of different products, this is also available in an adjustable version.

Labelling cylindrical and format products – TNC-RMFP type

In order to be able to switch fast between labellingflat or moulded products and from cylindrical pro-ducts, this version of the semi-automatic machinewas equipped with a mechanical shift unit.In this case the dispenser is shifted between theunits on guide rails supported by ball bearings.Quick locks guarantee that the correct position forthe dispenser - or for the label printer, which isavailable as an option - is found again quickly.

The labelling of cylindrical products takes placeanalogous to the TNC-RM type. Three-dimensionalproducts are labelled in a separate product receptacleby means of pneumatic label transfer station

Labelling of flat and/or 3-dimensional products –TNC-FP type

With this type of machine the labels are applied by means of a pneumatic label transfer station.The product is located in a format receptacle which is either identical with the outer contours ofthe product (in the case of form bottles) or it can be mechanically adjusted to different sizes forcartons or boxes.

Labelling double and single cartridges – TNC-RMDK type

Like the TNC-RMPF type, this system is also suitable for labelling different shaped products. On this system double and signal cartridges can be labelled on their circumference.

In the rotating station for the cartridges almost all cylindrical products can be labelled on their circumference analogous to the TNC-RM type.

Product receptacle:Facility for cylindrical products, receptacle for format products for all-round labelling, receptacle forformat products or receptacle for flat products.

Depending on the system configuration and product properties, BBK decides on the right unit totransfer the label to the product. This can take place either by means of a pneumatic dispensertongue for infinite height compensation of up to 30 or 50 mm, a magnetic dispenser tongue,a vacuum tape, a pneumatic label transfer station. Several product receptacles can be combinedwith one another.

The following options are still available to the customer:Label presence control, printing presence control, label prewinders to hold larger label reels (350 or 500 mm outside diameter), mobile base frame with fixable rollers.

Apart from “paper”, the most familiar label material of all, plastic labels are becoming increasinglypopular; especially for specific fields, such as the packaging industry.The potential uses for foil labels are very varied. Labels Platform3

Label design:With the clear layout of the user interface, identical to the Windows standard, the operation of Labels Platform 3is simple and intuitive. Toolbars are activated or deactivated based on the object selected, e.g. line or rectangle.This means that the right button is always to the fore.

The features of the different objects in the label can be conveniently set up and edited in clearly-arranged lists. The option of grouping these lists further

simplifies the operation. In addition, little icons in front of the individual features make the function clear.Using the existing Zoom bar, the label can be zoomed to the best sizeand the perfect size for working on.

In the Object list you will find all the fields andvariables set up in a summary in table form. Here,too, the objects can be selected by clicking the

mouse and edited. Variables can be set up regardless of the label fields.Using ”Drag and Drop“, the variables can be dragged simply into the labeland positioned.

The Formula generator is a powerful tool. Here is an extract from the formula commands available:

Administration:The User manager offers the option of depositing reduced access for differentusers. The log-in can be selected at thestart of the programme and changed asyou go along by pressing a button. Inthis process, the individual screen settings and window positions are alsonoted, thus guaranteeing a precise grading of the necessary functions.

The Print programme, which can alsobe started as a separate Windows pro-gramme, shows all the relevant informa-tion in a clear layout. An integratedlabel and print preview is included alongwith the status information via the printer selected. Individual printer andmargin setting and the last print quantityare stored depending on the printerselected. This makes it possible to printone and the same layout on for examplea Zebra Z170XiIIIplus industry labelprinter and an office laser printer withouthaving to make the usual changes.

The LP3 Database Manager is includedin the configuration level ”STAR“ and”PREMIUM“. The interface is based onthe popular ODBC standard. The tableoverview and the individual data setoverview are available for the view.Likewise the field sequence and thecolumn width can be freely chosen forthe view. Filter and sorting conditionsare stored and are available unchangedthe next time you start. The variablelink to Labels Platform 3 is easy using”Drag and Drop“. A click on the mouseis sufficient to move a selected data setinto the active label, making designingwith real data possible.

FormatManager

The ”stand alone“ printer solution from Labels Platform 3The Format Manager makes label printers capable of ”standing alone“, so that these can be fully used withoutany connection to the label PC. Depending on use, labels, database, text files or other information can be loaded into the printer or the memory card and stored in the resident memory. The call-up can be completedin a variety of ways by hand, scanner or through direct control using SPS, microprocessor, processor, ERP orlogistics control. ”The intelligence is in the printer“

Functional descriptionThe Format Manager is an additional Windowsapplication, which can be run in conjunctionwith Labels Platform 3 PREMIUM. In the FormatManager the label layouts and 8 individualadditional parameters can be selected. Thedestination to which all data is to be transfer-red can be selected based on the type of printer. The complete composition can be savedunder a free name (e.g. data filling 1). Withthe ”add additional files“ button, files locatedon the computer can be selected. These aretaken into consideration in the download.

Behind the ”Global settings“ button you willfind the basic operating mode of the program-me. In the ”mode“ you can select whether thelabel chosen should be printed immediately or after the print trigger. A ”FiFo-memory“ buffering can also beselected. The number of labels to be printed per job can be very flexibly configured. If, for example, the layoutto be printed is to be activated via a serial or Ethernet interface, then the relevant start-/stop- and separatorrequired can be freely selected. The feedback is also individually adjustable. Variable fields are transferredwith the same log. If a textual database is used in conjunction with the label templates, then both the nameand the separator can be entered. With the installation of an Industry I/O-card (10-40 Volt DC), it is also pos-sible to select the layout or a data set ”electrically”. With the ”Start Transfer“ button, a printer programmealong with all layouts, additional data chosen and parameters set is generated and transferred. The combinati-on of the settings means that as a rule all imaginable connections and sequences are feasible.

The Format Manager is offered forIntermec printers with the programmelanguage ”Fingerprint“ and also forZebra label printers. When using Zebra label printers, not all functionsare available.

The Format Manager is an additionalpiece of software, which is included inthe scope of supply and operation ofLabels Platform PREMIUM.

Remote

Labels Platform 3 and remote controlThe production solution with remote control of the label software. Connected label printers communicate withthe label PC and act as an input terminal, thus eliminating the hassle and expense of integrating PCs into production. All the printers connected, however, work with a real-time connection and therefore always haveaccess to the most recent data ”Just in Time“.

Functional descriptionBy using Labels Platform Remote, the printers connected from the Intermec range*become an input terminal. The printer-internalor external keypad or a scanner connected areused here as an input medium. The printers are connected in series or per Ethernet to theremote PC. The remote PC acts as a label anddatabase server and reacts at the request of the individual print systems. This remote PCdoes not necessarily have to be located in theproduction, it can in fact be located furtheraway in the master office, switch room, serverroom etc.

The printer status of all connected printsystems is shown on the remote PC and canthus be monitored centrally. When you useLabels Platform Remote, you can choose between two modes. This decides whether thenumber activated or scanned on the printer(numeric/alphanumeric) corresponds to a labeldeposited or an entry in a database source. Inthe second case, this data source may containfurther information relevant to the label. As anoption, an additional variable scan may be activated. This filled variable is still available inthe PC thereafter for further functions, e.g. forsetting print conditions or in the flexible formulaeditor. Where several label layouts are possibleper data set, this can then also be selectedprior to printing beginning. In some applications,the number of labels to be printed is not yetknown at the start of the job and thus here too,the call-off can be deactivated.

Special customer requirements often need individual solutions, with interfacesand sequences adapted to suit the users.

With the LP3 Commander you design your own application. All operating controls can be positioned freely andare configurable in optical features (colours, fonts, frames) and function.

The flexibly parameter-drivenactions allow you to make miscel-laneous data and process con-nections. Be it an automatic printstart on receipt of new ERP-orderdata, the integration of scannerand scales data or communicationwith external systems per OPC-interface: all of this is available inthe Commander Editor by clickingthe mouse without knowledge ofa programme language.

A Commander project is based on three basic elements: the Operating controls, the Variables and the Actions.

The Operating controls include the following:

A Commander application can thus, for example, automaticallyimport the XML data of an ERP-system into an order table andthe user receives the current orders displayed in a table field.He selects the current order, supplements the data per inputfield with a batch number and activates the print start button.This button activates a sequence of actions which carries out the print start, fills a layout with the data and sends it to theprinter. A release signal is sent per OPC to a control and thestart of the order per status file is fed back to the ERP-system.

Product Managers are individual, partly bespoke Windows applications in conjunction with Labels Platform 3.Here the main focus is on the operator and the production sequences. A simple, clear and informative userinterface stands alongside complex connections of e.g. labelling machine, barcode scanner, ERP/SAP/AS400-system, weighing technology, logistics control and additional platforms.

Functional description

Product Managers are Windows programmes, which as a rule are used in production environments and quiteoften connect complex production sequences under a common user interface. Here the main focus is on pro-duction and the sequence.

The benefit of these programmes can quickly be seen in a simple example from a pharmaceuticalproduction plant:

The production runs based on orders and bottles with a lid label and a side label are printed and dispensed.On the lid label there is a barcode, which is to be checked 1:1. The bottles actually labelled must be logged.

Solution:A Product Manager displays the currentorder data for this production in awindow. When the order is activated,the order data is loaded into the labellayouts for the lid and the side printer.The barcode scanner is paramterisedwith a target barcode valid for thisorder and the labelling machine is setto automatic. Production begins. Theprinters print the first label; the barco-de scanner checks the content. As theProduct Manager communicates in realtime with the printers and the barcodescanner, a 1:1 logging is given and allthe relevant data is available to theoperating staff on a screen. Here thereare still a lot more individual possiblesequences, which can be implementedon agreement and based on the condi-tions in the production.

It knows the Chemistry Risk Phrases ”R+S“ in 21 languagesDrafting labels in the chemical industry places major demands on the design in particular of the ”R+S phrases“.The ”RS Manager“ takes on this task and provides the hazard and safety phrases in several languages in comprehensive formatting.

Functional description

The RS manager is a programme function that runs in conjunction with Labels Platform 3 PREMIUM. A data base of the current R+S sets in 21 languages (CS, DE, DN, EL, EN, ES, ET, FI, FR, HU, IT, LT, LV, MT,NL, NO, PL, PT, SK, SL, SV) is included in the scope of delivery. This data base can, however, also be individually upgraded.

Depending on the intended use, the RS Manager generates several RS variables that you can either connectdirectly with text fields or that can be excellently optically edited within formatted special text fields (word processor). Here, for examplem, tables and intelligent change functions are available.

The choice of the necessary ”R“- or ”S“ phrases can be both chosen fixed or come from other variables (keypad input, transfer file, etc.). This allows this function to be even further automated. How the RS Manageris to fill the variables can be selected from 7 different modes.
