Holidays began after the SSLC exam. Poor Vinoth joined a workshop t o e a r n s o m e money. The one month at workshop proved to be the travails of his life w i t h t h e s u p e r v i s o r s making him sweat. “ Is work ing in w o r k s h o p s o m i s e r a b l e ? ” - Vinoth grieved with exasperation. But he always hid his real expression.
H a v i n g w o r k e d f o r a month, Vinoth was now eligible for his salary and he has already informed t h e m a n a g e r Sashidar that he would go back to study as schools are about to open. Shasidar called Vinoth before he was about to leave the workshop .
“You seem to look dreadful. Are you so upset due to the workload in our workshop?” asked Shasidar with a smile. Vinoth was trying to hide his real expression a n d s a i d ' n o ' perfunctorily. The manager is an a c c o m p l i s h e d middle aged man who could easily read what was in Vinod's mind.
He pat ted his shoulder and said, “It is me who asked my workers to ass ign you heavy work. Do you know why?” V i n o d w a s s u r p r i s e d a n d remained silent for a w h i l e . T h e m a n a g e r continued, “These jobs are very tough to do in similar w o r k s h o p s outside. If you are
comfortable with this kind of work and allured by the s a l a r y , y o u r interest would turn towards workshop r a t h e r t h a n continuing your studies. You may end up in a place like this I afraid. I missed my studies when I was young and had to work hard and lost many things in my life. Now I believe you will put in all your mind and effort in your studies to make your future b r i g h t . ” s a i d Sashidar with a smile and showed Vinoth the way out.
V i n o t h d e v e l o p e d respect for the m a n a g e r a n d dec ided to be committed in his s tud ies in the f o r t h c o m i n g school session.
