Good FridayGood Friday, the Friday before Easter, commemorates the Passion and Death of Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross. It falls on April 2, this year. No Mass is celebrated on Good Friday; instead, the Church celebrates a special liturgy in which the account of the Passion according to the Gospel of John is read, a series of intercessory prayers (prayers for special intentions) are offered, and the faithful venerate the Cross by coming forward and kissing it. The liturgy concludes with the distribution of Holy Communion. Since there was no Mass, Hosts that were reserved from the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday are distributed instead.

Good Friday is a day of strict fasting and abstinence. Catholics who are over the age of 18 and under the age of 60 are required to fast, which means that they can eat only one complete meal and two smaller ones during the day, with no food in between. Catholics who are over the age of 14 are required to refrain from eating any meat, or any food made with meat, on Good Friday.

Kabaddi World CupIndia: Kabaddi World cup will be played in Punjab, India next month. Ten countries, including hosts India are to participate in the tournament. How Different is India from Sub-Saharan Africa?India: One-third of India's population lives below the poverty line and India is home to one-third of the world's poor people. Though the middle class has gained from recent positive economic developments, India suffers from substantial poverty. According to the new World Bank's estimates on poverty based on 2005 data, India has 456 million people, 41.6% of its population, living below the new international poverty line of $1.25 (PPP) per day. The World Bank further estimates that 33% of the global poor now reside in India. Moreover, India also has 828 million people, or 75.6% of the

population living below $2 a day, compared to 72.2% for Sub-Saharan Africa.

Wealth distribution in India is fairly uneven, with the top 10% of income groups earning 33% of the income. Despite signif icant economic progress, 1/4 of the nation's population earns less than the government-specified poverty threshold of $0.40/day. Official figures estimate that 27.5% of Indians lived below the national poverty line in 2004-2005. A 2007 report by the state-run National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector (NCEUS) found that 25% of Indians, or 236 million people, lived on less than 20 rupees per day with most working in "informal labour sector with no job or social security, living in abject poverty.

MIND WORKS-28Your Behavior is controlled by your Internal StateBy UK Athikkal-----------Your success in life is determined by the way you behave. Behaviour decides the extend you are able to influence significant people around you: your family members, peers and all those you are in contact with.

Our behavior and the way we respond to people and situations are not consciously chosen by us in most situations. It is an unconscious process. Let us consider a situation where two friends A and B are having a walk together in the morning. One stray dog is coming in the opposite direction. On seeing the dog A gets in to panic mode and attempts to turn back and escape. How does B respond to this situation? He looks at the dog in a friendly manner and tries to pat it when it comes near.

For the same external event two persons behave in entirely different manner. For the same inputs from the external world the internal representation (IR) of these two individuals are different. That shows the manner of processing these information is different. The attitude, beliefs, experiences and values of the persons concerned play a major role in shaping the I R of each individual in unique manner.

What are the lessons we learn from this episode?

Each one of us lives in a different world made of our own environments, experience and consequent belief systems. We need to be aware of this unique nature of every person we encounter on a day today basis.

We will be in a position to appreciate and understand differing perception and behaviors from the people around us. The internal state of persons is determined by the manner of processing of external inputs and formation of internal representation. When we encounter unacceptable mannerisms or behaviors from others, we

Damn it!! The poor fellow is on the look out for a symbol which is not there.

Moon is one of those rare, intelligent, thought-provoking science fiction films that come along less often than a blue moon. In Moon, Sam Bell, Sam Rockwell, has only two weeks left of a three-year stint overseeing the automated mining of Helium 3, a source of clean energy, from the far side of the Moon. He longs to see his wife and daughter again, but in the meantime is cared for by the over-protective computer, Gerty, voiced

Moon entertains by posing a puzzle whose solution opens into disturbing existential truths and paradoxes. Moon is more interested in ideas; in the not-too-distant future, will human beings retain their humanity? This is science fiction at its stimulating best.

The word 'vegetarian' was first used in 1842 to describe one who abstains from the use of flesh, fish and fowl as food with or without the addition of eggs and dairy products. Now vegetarianism is taken with different significations in different contexts. In Jainism, it signifies a strictly vegetarian diet, involving no harm or injury to living beings either in its procurement or preparation. The Jain thinkers realized that injury to living beings can not be avoided completely. However, intentional injury to mobile (TRAS) beings can be avoided. Further, injury to immobile (STHAAVAR) living beings belonging to the vegetable kingdom can be minimized. Thus Jainism propagates a vegetarian diet based on grains, milk, fruits and vegetables.

Physical and mental health is important to life. Non-vegetarian food is closely associated with physical and mental decline. UTTARAADHYAYAN SUTRA states: "An individual, who does not understand reality, indulges in violence, untruth, deception, eating meat and drinking liquor, and fancies that these are beneficial for him/her.

Consequently, the individual endures severe afflictions and laments about his/her misdeeds, and, in the end, grows apprehensive of afterlife." Vegetarianism, on the other hand, is good for health and well-being of an individual.

Under the Contract Labour Act 1970, there are two lakh construction workers in Bangalore. Out of these 63,000 construction workers are registered as beneficiaries (of the department) in the past two years in Bangalore. There are so many of them who stand at Peenya and Mysore Road waiting to be picked up by contractors for daily wages.

Most construction workers are employed only for a few weeks at one place and then they have to start a new search for work. At the most they are employed 20 days in a month. However, there exist no common work standards or norms to set criteria that determine wages for different kinds of skills or trades.
