October 1-30 LGBTQ HISTORY DISPLAY B Wing Display Case Thursday, October 10 SAFE ZONE TRAINING 1pm, B2203 SafeZone is a training program open to faculty and staff ONLY at this time. The goal of this program is to raise awareness about the dynamics of gender and sexual orientation while exploring different ways to embody inclusive allyship for people of all orien- tations, genders, sexualities, identities, and levels of being out. Participants must RSVP at diversity@ govst.edu by October 18th. SPACE IS LIMITED. QUEERING HIP HOP 1:30 – 2:30pm, B2201 Hip-Hop music and culture is far from this monolithic ex- perience, that is often told to us as consumers. Through- out its creation Hip-Hop has always included Queer Black and Brown bodies, who made a significant impact on the industry and culture of Hip-Hop. From Godfather of Chi- cago House Music Frankie Knuckles to Saucy Santana’s Walk’em Like A Dog. Join us for an in depth discussion on the history and impact of Queering Hip-Hop. Monday, October 14 NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY 12 – 4 pm, Hall of Governors Show your support for the LGBT community by learn- ing about lgbtqia+ history. There will also be infor- mation on coming out and how to support those who choose to do so. Thursday, October 31st A DISCUSSION ON BALL CULTURE 1 − 3pm, Hall of Governors The ball scene is fascinating subculture that illuminates themes of race, gender, and sexual orientation within so- ciety. Balls are competitions that consist of individuals who perform different genres and categories.
