    A RESOLUTION PROVIDING THE LEAGUE OF COLLEGE COUNCILS - UP DILIMANS

    SUPPORT AGAINST THE UNJUST LABOR PRACTICES OF PENTAGON STEELCORPORATION

    CONTEXT: That the Pentagon Steel Corporation has not provided Overtime pay, 13th monthpay, health insurance, sick leaves, adequate break times, proper safety gear and adequateventilation in the workplace to its workers, most of whom have been in the company for ten(10) to thirty (30) years. That the management has also attempted to cripple the Pentagon SteelWorkers Union through misrepresentation in Collective Bargaining Agreements, forced signingof blank waivers and recently, illegal dismissal of one-hundred and thirty four (134) workerswithout separation pay. And finally, that the management has hired new workers to replace the134, while there is a pending case against the company in the Department of Labor andEmployment (DOLE).

    WHEREAS, the LEAGUE OF COLLEGE COUNCILS UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES,DILIMAN establishes its support for the proper implementation of the Labor Code in thecountry and upholds the right of the Pentagon Steel Workers to be properly represented inCollective Bargaining Agreements.

    WHEREAS, the LEAGUE OF COLLEGE COUNCILS UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES,DILIMAN condemns:

    The hiring of policemen and civilian police to harass the workers and monitor the picketline

    The April 15 violent dispersal that resulted to injuries and fabricated charges againstsix of the picketers

    The July 13 incident wherein a truck from inside the company attempted to ram intothe picket line, which resulted to the death of one of the companys own security guards

    and to major injuries for two of the guards; and when muriatic acid and rocks wherethrown at the picketers from inside the factory premises.

    WHEREAS, the LEAGUE OF COLLEGE COUNCILS UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES,DILIMAN affirms that the hiring of new workers by the Pentagon Steel Corporation to replacethe 134, while there is currently a case against the company at the DOLE, is illegal andunconstitutional.

    WHEREAS, the LEAGUE OF COLLEGE COUNCILS UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES,DILIMAN shall be engaging in Basic Mass Exposures with the workers on strike and will be

    calling for donations to assist the picketing workers. Also, the LCC will serve as an avenue forvarious activities that will disseminate information to the students and youth about the statusof the campaign.

    WHEREAS, the LEAGUE OF COLLEGE COUNCILS UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES,DILIMAN shall be submitting this resolution to the administrators of Pentagon Steel

    Corporation and the Department of Labor and Employment.

    NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that the LEAGUE OF COLLEGE COUNCILS UNIVERSITYOF THE PHILIPPINES, DILIMAN adopts and enacts this RESOLUTION PROVIDING THELEAGUE OF COLLEGE COUNCILS - UP DILIMANS SUPPORT AGAINST THE UNJUSTLABOR PRACTICES OF PENTAGON STEEL CORPORATION, effective August 1, 2013.
