How to use this booklet

Model Answers have been developed by EDI to offer additional information and guidance to Centres, teachers and candidates as they prepare for LCCI International Qualifications. The contents of this booklet are divided into 3 elements:

(1) Questions – reproduced from the printed examination paper (2) Model Answers – summary of the main points that the Chief Examiner expected to

see in the answers to each question in the examination paper, plus a fully worked example or sample answer (where applicable)

(3) Helpful Hints – where appropriate, additional guidance relating to individual

questions or to examination technique Teachers and candidates should find this booklet an invaluable teaching tool and an aid to success. EDI provides Model Answers to help candidates gain a general understanding of the standard required. The general standard of model answers is one that would achieve a Distinction grade. EDI accepts that candidates may offer other answers that could be equally valid.

DOCUMENT 1 Ringed word very frequently mis-spelled. 1 Many candidates failed to include ‘Ian’ here even though it was shown on the examination paper. Alternatively, the initial ‘I’ would have been equally acceptable. 2 A significant number of candidates failed to extend ‘No’ to ‘Number’ and often in just one place. Expansion of ‘opp’ to ‘opportunity’ was also difficult for many.

DOCUMENT 2 Ringed words frequently mis-spelled 1 Very many candidates expanded ‘St’ to ‘Saint’. This was not expected but it was encouraging to see candidates spell ‘Saint’ correctly. Candidates and tutors might like to know that ‘St’ is a common abbreviation in the English language for ‘Saint’ and is not often expanded. 2 The major problem with this task was the failure on the part of candidates to display the times in the itinerary correctly as am or pm as instructed at the top of the task. To aid candidates, some of the times were already correctly displayed in the task (and in typescript) e.g. ‘7.00 am’ and ‘6.00 am’, but candidates produced some really strange formats for the times e.g. ‘7.00 hours am’. Some candidates converted the am/pm times back to the 24-hour clock. Fortunately, the majority of candidates incurred only one penalty because of so many repeat errors on these times.

DOCUMENT 3 Ringed words frequently mis-spelled 1 Numerous candidates overlooked/ignored the instructions on this task. Very many candidates failed to use a large font for the main heading and many main headings were not emboldened either. 2 Numerous candidates overlooked the instruction on this task for at least ‘2.5 cm clear here and where marked * ’ Candidates must read the instructions. During the 10 minutes’ reading time, candidates need to highlight the instructions with either a highlighter pen or by putting a large circle round the instructions.

DOCUMENT 4 Ringed words frequently mis-spelled 1 So many candidates had the wrong date for this cruise. They typed ’20 May’ and yet the

correct departure date was there in the heading.

2 These two bullet points look better displayed with a clear line-space between but were accepted without.
