Weekly Crime SummaryOctober 31 – November 6, 2011

Part I felony crimes declined last week from 33 the previous one to 22. Robberies, residential and commercial burglaries, and vehicle thefts were down, but an increase was shown in vehicle burglaries. Patrol deputies handled 258 calls for service last week, down from 266 the week before. The current 2011 weekly average in calls for service is 272.

GREAT NEWS! There were

no robberies reported last week.Six residential burglaries

were investigated last week, down from eight the previous week. Five of the cases last week involved open or unlocked doors or windows, and one win-dow was pried open. Jewelry, laptop computers, cash, liquor, suitcases, and cameras were taken. The 2011 weekly average in residential burglaries is 4.0

The Cerritos Sheriff’s Sta-tion/Community Safety Center receives frequent inquiries from new and established residents as to the best methods to protect a home from burglary. Our number one recommendation is to have an alarm system installed. These systems are a proven deterrent and initiate a law enforcement response within minutes.

Commercial burglaries dropped from four to one last week. A closed business was targeted where a front door was pried and a TV stolen. The 2011 weekly average in commercial/“other structure” burglaries is 2.9.

Vehicle burglaries were up from six to eleven last week. High-volume commercial park-ing lots were the crime scenes in seven cases last week. Six SUVs were involved. Three GPS, cell phones, sunglasses, MP3 players, laptop computers, and third-row seats (from an SUV) were re-ported stolen. The 2011 weekly average in vehicle burglaries remained at 6.7.Vehicle thefts

were down from nine to two last week. One theft last week was from a high-volume commercial parking lot, and the other a resi-dential neighborhood. Both were SUVs. The 2011 weekly average in vehicle thefts is now 3.1.

We always promote the use of steering wheel locking devices as great visible deterrents, but also endorse the use of track-ing devices that can lead to the speedy recovery of your stolen vehicle.

La Mirada Crime SummaryOctober 31 - November 6, 2011

Robbery A robbery was reported near Excelsior Dr. and La Mirada Blvd. Deputies took three suspects into custody in connection with the incident.

Aggravated Assault Two ag-gravated assaults were reported last week. An assault was reported on the 14900 block of Valeda Dr. One suspect was arrested. An unknown suspect assaulted a male at a business on the 14900 block of Leffingwell Rd. Residential Burglary A bur-glary was reported on the 12100 block of Tanfield Dr. Several watches were stolen from the home. A laptop computer was re-ported stolen from an apartment on the 16100 block of Rosecrans Ave. Other Structure Burglary A tool storage locker was reported

burglarized on the 13800 block of Biola Ave. Vehicle Burglary Five vehicle burglaries were reported last week. Burglaries were reported at the following locations: 12000 block of Las Flores Ave., 12700 block of Barbata Rd., and the 14900 block of La Mirada Blvd. In each of the incidents, the vehicle's third row seats were stolen. A GPS/stereo system was stolen from a vehicle on the 15200 block of Rosecrans Ave. Various items were stolen from a vehicle on the 11600 block of Lisburn Pl.

Grand Theft Several items were stolen from an unlocked vehicle on the 12800 block of Oakwood Ln. Two laptop computers were reported stolen in separate incidents on the 13800 block of Biola Ave. Cop-per electrical cords were stolen from a yard on the 14500 block of Alondra Blvd., and a catalytic converter was stolen from a ve-hicle on the 15200 block of Santa Gertrudes Ave.

Grand Theft Vehicle Five vehicles were reported stolen last week. An older model Honda was stolen from the 12700 block of Valley View Ave. A second older model Honda was stolen from the 13000 block of Ramsey Dr. The vehicle was recovered the next day in fair condition. Two semi trailers were reported stolen from the 16000 block of Heron Ave. A third semi trailer was reported stolen from the 14700 block of Alondra Blvd.
