1. ACE Dictionary
The ACE Spelling Dictionary includes updated and
extended vocabulary, more alternative spellings,
more plural forms and more ‘sound-alike’ words with
meanings. The middle section is a darker blue to make
it easier to fi nd the right page. It is clear that pupils with
spelling diffi culties often experience problems with the
whole curriculum and lose confi dence with writing. The
ACE Spelling Dictionary breaks through these problems.
Using the unique 2-page index spread, pupils need only
think how a word sounds to fi nd out how to spell it. By
simply identifying the fi rst vowel sound, the speller is sent
instantly to the page where the problem word is found.
The easy-to-use reference system will tempt them to use
more interesting words in their writing, enabling them to
produce work that they can be proud of. Both patterns
and irregularities are highlighted in the dictionary so that
pupils learn to spell incidentally. The dictionary includes
a clear step-by-step guide to effective teaching with the
dictionary, over 20,000 words, a comprehensive list of
commonly misspelt words and further learning strategies
for spelling. Contains 328 pages (168 x 246mm).
Age Suitability: 6 Years +
ECMT11592 £ 16.95
2. Advanced ACE Spelling Pocket Dictionary
The Advanced ACE Spelling Dictionary is a companion
volume to the ACE Spelling Dictionary. It retains all the
assets of the standard dictionary, along with some
added extras.
The Advanced ACE is smaller and more transportable,
easy to carry from lesson to lesson, making for a more
compact reference guide. The coverage of the dictionary
has been extended so that it goes right up to degree
level, with the addition of a further 3000 words. We’ve
also highlighted up to 4000 high-frequency words to cut
down on the time spent looking for them.
The Advanced ACE Spelling Dictionary has a unique
index based on the principles of the ACE Spelling
Dictionary. The user need only think how a word sounds
in order to fi nd out how to spell it. Once the fi rst vowel
sound has been identifi ed, the user will be directed to
the page where they will fi nd the word they are looking
for. As with the ACE Spelling Dictionary, patterns and
irregularities are highlighted, and clear guidance on the
use of the dictionary are included. Contains 512 pages
(114 x 162mm). Age Suitability: 9 Years +
EDMT11410 £ 15.95
3. ACE Spelling Activities
Following the success of the ACE Spelling Dictionary,
ACE Spelling Activities has been developed to provide
you with a further resource to reinforce and extend your
pupils’ word skills. The 75 pupil worksheets - including
individual, group and whole-class activities - offer a
lively and fun approach to spelling, through crosswords,
puzzles and spelling games. They cover tricky word
endings, spellings for sounds, searching for patterns and
much more. ACE Spelling Activities also includes a clear
step-by-step approach to using the dictionary effectively,
plus a comprehensive list of commonly misspelt words
with further strategies to help your pupils learn to spell
them correctly. Contains 136 fully photocopiable A4
pages, including teacher’s notes.
Age Suitability: 7 Years +
EDMT00380 £ 21.95
4. Ace Spelling Bank
Designed to accompany the ACE Spelling Dictionary
and Activities book, the ACE Spelling Word Bank is an
ideal way for students to record their own personal
list of spellings. This handy, pocket-sized notebook
can be easily slipped into the pupil’s bag or pocket
and consulted as needed. As part of the ACE range of
spelling resources, the Word Bank is an easy-to-use
reference tool that pupils can customise for their own
needs. With an increasing focus on correct spelling in the
new National Curriculum the ACE Spelling Word Bank is
ideal for those needing extra support in this area. Each
book has 32 pages. Pack of 5.

This edition of Stile Dyslexia is recommended by Dyslexia Action and offers a specially structured self-checking
programme to take pupils through the rules of spelling and grammar using a phonic approach.
Fully updated to current guidance, including specially commissioned illustrations, Stile Dyslexia offers a
structured and cumulative programme, with each activity focusing on a specifi c learning point, and revision
activities at regular intervals.
This programme comprises nine books on spelling and grammar rules and one on general sequencing,
including work on the alphabet and months of the year.
Contains 10 books (246 x 171mm), each with 16 pages, illustrated in full colour.

The Stile Tray is the key to self checking activities. Pupils answer the questions by matching the tiles directly over
the answers in the clear lid of the tray. They then close the tray, turn it over, and re-open it to reveal a geometric
pattern, which should match the one printed at the top of the exercise. A highly motivating way to learn!

1. Word Shark V.5
Word Shark is a major teaching resource used widely in schools. It
combines the excitement of games with the serious task of learning to read
and spell. Word Shark’s strength lies in its educational integrity. Each of the
60 motivating games is designed to address discreet skills in the teaching
and reinforcing of reading and spelling. Word Shark has dedicated games
to support synthetic phonics, involving blending sounds into words for
reading and segmenting words into sounds and syllables for spelling. The
games and selection of pre-recorded words are specially structured to
assist those with dyslexia, but work equally well for a wide range of users
including able spellers and those with EAL. Word Shark includes a spelling
course for The National Curriculum 2014 (England), a course for ‘Letters and
Sounds’, a structured Word Shark spelling course which is easy to follow
sequentially, subject vocab for secondary schools; sentences targeting
comprehension, selections of High Frequency Words, a course for Alpha to
Omega following the structure of that book and an alphabet and dictionary
course.

wide range of subjects. Kate is a well established literacy consultant, advising many educational and trade

She has been invited to appear on BBC Breakfast TV as well as in Channel 4’s Dispatches to discuss literacy and
inclusion. Kate is also the author of Target Ladders: Dyslexia.
Differentiating for Inclusion: Target Ladders Every class includes a number of pupils whose learning needs are greater than, or different from, those of the rest of the class. All teachers should be able to identify targets to use as the baseline for intervention and to help those children to make appropriate progress in small steps so as to feel a sense of achievement. However, many teachers in mainstream primary schools don’t know what the next ‘target’ should be. They know what the child can’t do, but they often don’t know how to express that as a target. Each book comes with a CD of photocopiable material, inculding targets pages and records of progress templates.

1. How To Increase the Potential of Students with DCD (Dyspraxia) in Secondary School
The structure of secondary education demands that
young people are well-organised, self-suffi cient,
increasingly autonomous learners, who can cope
with a wide range of teachers and a diverse
timetable based around multiple locations and
buildings. However, a substantial number of young
people have motor co-ordination and perceptual
diffi culties which affect their participation in class
activities. This condition was previously termed
‘dyspraxia’ but is now more universally referred to
as ‘developmental co-ordination disorder’ or DCD.
For these pupils, poor handwriting, erratic
organisation and diffi culties with reading,
mathematics and physical education may have
been noted at primary school with their associated
detrimental effect on academic success, peer
relationships, social skills and self-confi dence.
However, these issues are felt more keenly in
secondary school due to the desire to ‘fi t in’ and
be accepted by a potentially large and often
unforgiving peer group.
This book will provide readers with an insight into
how DCD can affect students at Key Stages 3 and
4, and provide some practical strategies to help
each young person to reach their potential.
This book is intended to inspire teachers and health
care professionals to:

“All three books would also help other family members, classmates and teachers
to appreciate the strengths of the child with autism or Asperger syndrome and, as
such, these would make a great addition to any home or primary school library.”
Miranda Kemp, Editor, Communication magazine, NAS.
”I highly recommend the
Roar books to improve the
self-esteem of children with
an ASC but also to encourage
teachers, parents and peers
to perceive and appreciate the
endearing qualities of a child
with ASC. Perhaps other children
could consider it is ‘cool’ to

Roar the Dinosaur
This beautiful series of picture books introduces Roar,
the brave and strong little dinosaur who knows it’s
okay to do things differently. Roar books and resources
have been specially created to help children with high-
functioning Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome and those who
live and work with them. Just like Roar, children with
autism think in a different way.
The enchanting books invite children, parents/carers
and professionals to celebrate the strengths of children
with Asperger’s. Roar has many great qualities including
honesty, determination, attention to detail, exceptional
memory and a sense of humour. Roar helps children
move from feeling, “I’ve got it wrong!” to saying, “This is
me. I’m okay.”
Roar is the main character in each book, alongside a
family member and her supportive friend. She uses her
special talents and likes to be busy, but enjoys taking a
break by hiding – just as children with Asperger’s fi nd
joining in can be hard work and like to take a break,
perhaps by doing a simple activity on their own; routine
and ritual restore an overloaded mind.
While created for those on the autistic spectrum,
Roar’s zest for life will appeal to children and families
everywhere!
Full colour throughout, written in rhyming verse, with 36
pages in each book. Size: 210 x 148mm.

neat conclusion, providing you with a golden opportunity
to develop important skills in thinking with your children.
This approach means your pupils will need to be
active in engaging with such dilemmas as; What is
the world’s best question? Through questions your
children will be able to develop their skills of information
processing, reasoning, enquiry, creativity, evaluation
and metacognition - thinking about thinking. Each story
is accompanied by teacher’s notes that outline the
skills being developed, a series of searching questions
to develop those skills further and ways to apply the

2. Speed Up!
In just eight weekly sessions, Speed Up! provides a multi-
sensory course of help for any child aged 8-13 whose
handwriting is illegible, slow or lacking in fl uency. Poor
handwriting hinders many children’s progress - right
across the curriculum. Unfortunately, most handwriting
schemes do little to help children who are struggling
with this vital skill. Here, at last, is a new and highly
effective approach. Developed by a leading paediatric
occupational therapist and designed specifi cally for older
children struggling with handwriting, Speed Up! gets to
the root of writing diffi culties by developing kinaesthetic
awareness through multi-sensory activity and exercise.

Word Shark is a major teaching resource used widely in
schools. It combines the excitement of games with the serious
task of learning to read and spell. Word Shark’s strength lies
in its educational integrity. Each of the 60 motivating games is
designed to address discreet skills in the teaching and reinforcing
of reading and spelling. Word Shark has dedicated games to
support synthetic phonics, involving blending sounds into words
for reading and segmenting words into sounds and syllables for
spelling. The games and selection of pre-recorded words are
specially structured to assist those with dyslexia, but work equally
well for a wide range of users including able spellers and those
with EAL. Word Shark includes a spelling course for The National
Curriculum 2014 (England), a course for ‘Letters and Sounds’, a
structured Word Shark spelling course which is easy to follow
sequentially, subject vocab for secondary schools; sentences
targeting comprehension, selections of High Frequency Words,
a course for Alpha to Omega following the structure of that book
and an alphabet and dictionary course.

who are learning English as an additional language

to integrate successfully can seem a daunting task for
many teachers.
This new 10-week intervention programme aims to
enable these children to progress both academically

40 minutes, and progresses from the vocabulary of
greetings, school objects and place names to that of
number, time, weather and animals. The programme
provides focused and intensive support so that children
quickly acquire the basic language skills they need in
order to access both classroom and social activities with
more confi dence. Each session is packed with interactive
