Professor Julia Clarke, Dean of Faculty of Business and Law, Manchester Metropolitan University
Prior to moving into higher education, Julia worked for one of the big four accountancy firms in Manchester where she specialised in corporate taxation. She moved across to the HE sector to take up a post as a research assistant at the University of Central Lancashire, working
on a project on monitoring and evaluation by charitable trusts. Julia's first lecturing post was at Manchester Metropolitan University and she moved from here to the University of Leeds in 1997. At Leeds, Julia has taught on a range of undergraduate, Masters, MBA and corporate programmes on Business Ethics, Corporate Governance, Financial Analysis, Financial Accounting, Taxation and Auditing. She was previously Undergraduate Tutor and the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Business School. In 2011 she became Pro-Dean for Student Education for the Faculty of Business.
Julia is a founding member of the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Inter-Disciplinary Ethics Applied http://www.idea.leeds.ac.uk/ and was the first Director of the Q-Step Centre at the University of Leeds. Julia is an active participant in the business education community, through her work with the Chartered ABS and the international accrediting bodies. She has been a reviewer for the Quality Assurance Agency since 2008. Her current research is on equity and graduate employability with a particular focus on mentoring and social capital.
In June 2015, Julia returned to Manchester Metropolitan University and took up the post of Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law.
Dr Diane Sloan, Principal Lecturer in Strategy and Research, and Director of Learning & Teaching Enhancement, Newcastle Business School
Dr Sloan is recognised for her subject and pedagogical expertise contributing nationally to the sector through publications, committee membership, as well as organising and supporting international
conferences. She is committed to enhancing and supporting staff and students through the academic learning journey and has developed a nationally recognised research profile in two areas: supporting student transition to University study through developing a new pedagogical approach for international students studying Academic Skills/ESAP, the CEM Model; and the development and utilisation of technology enhanced delivery methods in particular simulation games.
She is lead researcher on the CEM Model, Dissertation Game and Student Transition and has developed and contributed to multidisciplinary teams from across the University and the sector producing conference submissions, papers and funding bids. Recognised for her enthusiasm and support of colleagues, her research, publications and contribution within the learning and teaching discipline has had a national and international impact.
Her commitment has been recognised through awards of University Learning and Teaching Fellow, Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy - the highest category awarded by the Academy and first in the history of her Faculty - and University nominee for National Teaching Fellow.

Dr Shirley Jenner, Principal Lecturer, Ph.D. Chartered Fellow
CIPD, Manchester Metropolitan University
Dr Shirley Jenner is a Principal Lecturer at MMU Business School,
with responsibilities for managing a portfolio of post-
graduate HRM and professional programmes. Shirley has over 20
years of experience working in people development as a
university lecturer, researcher and also commercially in private
practice. Shirley is also a Fellow of the HEA, and has been
involved in the introduction of a number of university staff peer- mentoring systems, one
for enhancing teaching and learning, and another for cross faculty staff career development.
Shirley is also an MBTI practitioner and a qualified management coach, and uses these skills
in teaching/facilitating reflective practice for leadership on our Executive MBA, MSc courses,
commercial and business growth programmes. At week-ends Shirley balances her interest
in wine-tasting with regular Saturday morning 5K outings with South Manchester Parkrun…
Dr Cathy Minett-Smith, Associate Dean (Student
Experience), University of Bedfordshire
Cathy is Associate Dean Student Experience in the Business
School at the University of Bedfordshire where she is
responsible for developing and enhancing all aspects of the
student experience. She works with colleagues in the Business
School and wider university to actively link the functional areas
of the student learning experience, including administrative,
learning support and academic delivery, to creatively and effectively develop the learning
experience for students. She has worked at Middlesex University where she was a senior
teaching fellow and Head of Learning Enhancement in the Business School. Her career path
from an academic statistician to leading learning development and the student experience
was supported by the completion of a Masters in Higher Education focussing on supporting
and developing staff to deliver excellence in challenging and complex contexts. She has a
longstanding interest in the dynamics and implementation of team-teaching with a
particular focus on team-teaching in a transnational education context, empowering staff to
lead and work with colleagues in remote/global communities of practice.

Professor Sue Robson, Professor of Education, School of
Education, Communication and Language Sciences, Newcastle University Sue Robson is Professor of Education in the School of Education,
Communication and Language Sciences at Newcastle University.
She was Head of School from 2007-2015. Sue is a member of the
Research Centre for Learning and Teaching and leads the Teaching
and Learning in HE Research Group. Her research interests include the internationalization
of HE; professional learning in schools and HE; and reward and recognition for teaching
excellence in HE. Her recent projects include an international project on Promoting
Teaching [http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/reward-and-recognition/promotion]; convening a
national network on Internationalising the Curriculum, and developing an
Internationalisation Framework for HE. She is principal investigator on an Erasmus+ strategic
partnerships project on Entrepreneurial Leadership. Sue was awarded an HEA National

Alona Welby, Research Funding and Policy Manager, Faculty of
Business and Law, Northumbria University
Alona is the point of contact for funding development in the Faculty of Business and Law. She provides development support for research applications to all funders, including EU, UK and international. Alona worked in Brussels for ten years on EU funding, policy development and advocacy, and has managed a large UK
government-funded project at the University of Birmingham. She is also a qualified counsellor, a role that comes in particularly handy when working with people grappling with research funding.
Louise Wyers, Research Pre Award Co-
ordinator, Faculty of Business and Law, and Health and Life Sciences (Healthcare, Public Health & Wellbeing, Sport Exercise and Rehabilitation), Northumbria University Louise provides support for costing, recording and authorisation of research proposals and funding applications as well as advising upon funder and scheme guidance. Louise’s background is in the
financial sector and prior to joining the university Louise worked for over 20 years as an IT analyst and project manager.
Professor Neil Marriott BSc, MBA, PhD, DipM, CPFA, FHEA,
Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Winchester Professor Marriott has over 30 years of teaching, research and management experience in UK Business Schools and universities. He is the Editor-in-Chief of The International Journal of Management Education and Associate Editor of The British Accounting Review. His research embraces accounting education,
NHS financial management and small business financial management, including angel finance, SME reporting and auditing. He has published over 100 refereed articles, working papers, professional journal articles, chapters, books and edited works as well as presenting at over 100 international academic and professional conferences.

Lizzie Morris (née McCoy), Assistant Manager, Student
Recruitment, KPMG LLP Lizzie Morris has over 10 years recruitment marketing experience with a leading recruitment advertising agency and more recently in-house with KPMG Student Recruitment. Lizzie has spent over 6 years with KPMG undertaking a variety of roles to include campus marketing at universities in the Midlands, Oxford and Cambridge as well as implementing
KPMG’s new, innovative assessment centre in 2011. She now manages undergraduate programme planning and trains interviewers and assessors on behalf of the team.
Dr Aftab Dean, Senior Lecturer, School Of Strategy,
Marketing & Communication, Leeds Beckett University
Dr Aftab A. Dean has a wealth of experience in higher
education, through working at a number of UK universities,
and experience of teaching in the Far East and the Gulf. He has
successfully helped a number of managers, from leading
companies in Europe, complete their PhD and has worked with
these international companies to resolve key marketing
challenges. His consultancy work, for the Higher Education Academy, in analysing the full
dataset of the National Student Survey has helped identify the key challenges facing
students in higher education. He has been invited, by a number of UK universities, to host
workshops on how managers, course leaders and tutors can align university resources to
enhance the learning journey for students. Recently, he completed a national audit of the
effective use of marketing in higher education. Dr Dean is currently researching the impact
of Governance on financial performance and brand reputation.
Katherine O’Flynn, Accreditation Director
– Northern Europe, South East Asia, Oceania, Association of MBAs
Katherine O’Flynn, Director of Accreditation joined AMBA in January 2013. Katherine is based in London but travels globally to join assessment panels for Business Schools seeking AMBA Accreditation.
Katherine has worked in educational quality assurance for thirteen years, starting her career at an exam board (Trinity College London) before moving onto the Chartered institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Universities UK (UUK). She has a background in teaching English to international students and spent five years living abroad in Singapore and Hong Kong. Prior to joining AMBA Katherine managed the Undergraduate Science without Borders scheme in the UK for the Brazilian Government, and has maintained an interest in TNE, internationalisation and the student experience. In recent roles Katherine has been responsible for improving quality assurance systems and processes to maintain their relevance and customer focus, by implementing a risk based approach to accreditation. Katherine has a History degree (MA Hons.) from the University of St Andrews, Scotland and MBA awarded by University College London, Institute of Education.
Timothy J Nichol, Dean, Liverpool Business School,
Liverpool John Moores University Tim graduated with a degree in Jurisprudence from Oxford University and joined Coopers and Lybrand where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1985. At Coopers he specialised in international personal tax. In 1992 he joined Newcastle Business School where he held a number of senior roles including Associate Deanships in
Undergraduate and Teaching and Learning. His early career at Newcastle Business School was spent working on Know How Fund consulting contracts in Eastern Europe. This led to a two year secondment to work as Resident Advisor at the Ukrainian central bank in Kiev. He was responsible for leading Newcastle Business School through EPAS accreditation system and also led the AACSB accreditation agenda. In 2014 Newcastle Business School became the first school in Europe to achieve both business and accounting accreditation. In 2014 he left Newcastle Business School and took the lead in the launch and development of the Northumbria University London campus before joining Liverpool John Moores University in August 2015.

Professor Debra Leighton, Executive Dean, University of Bedfordshire Business School
Debra Leighton is Executive Dean, University of Bedfordshire
Business School, having taken up the post in September 2015. Prior
to this she was Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) at Salford
Business School, where she designed and implemented innovative
postgraduate and undergraduate blended learning initiatives and
employability focused curricula that contributed to the school achieving Times Higher
Business School of the Year 2014 together with quality accreditations such as EPAS, AMBA,
Small Business Charter, CEEMAN and others. She has also developed successful academic
and commercial partnerships within the UK and overseas and memberships include the
CABS LTSE committee, EQUIS TEL standards committee and SF HEA.
Her research interests include experiential and relationship marketing, and within the field
of learning and teaching the application of experiential learning and blended learning to the
student experience. She has contributed to and Chaired UK and international teaching and
learning conferences and is committed to the active promotion of research informed
teaching.
Sue Beckingham, Educational Developer and Lecturer
in Information Systems, Sheffield Hallam University
Sue Beckingham is a Senior Lecturer in Information Systems
within the Department of Computing at Sheffield Hallam
University. She is also a LEAD Associate and Educational
Developer, taking a Faculty lead for technology enhanced
learning. She is also a course designer and facilitator of the cross-
institution open online course 'Bring Your Own Device for Learning’ and the co-founder of
the national #LTHEchat Learning and Teaching in Higher Education Chat.
Her research interests include social media and digital identity, and the use of technology to
enhance learning and teaching; and she has presented this work internationally as an
invited keynote speaker. Sue is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a
Fellow of the Staff and Educational Development Association (where she is a member of the
Executive Board).
Peter Viqueira, Principal Consultant, Higher Education
Peter is a Principal Consultant specialising in appointments within
the Higher Education sector at the most senior levels. Recent
assignments he has delivered within the Business School arena
include Dean level placements at the Universities of Kingston, De
Montfort, Liverpool John Moores, Salford and Manchester Met,
amongst others. He is also currently working with Sheffield
Hallam University and the University of Lincoln to recruit the Deans of their respective
Business Schools.
From a sector-wide perspective, Peter has worked to appoint several Vice-Chancellors, the
Chief Executive of HEFCE and the current Chief Executive of Universities UK (UUK). He has
also worked closely with the National Union of Students (NUS) on several non-executive
Trustees so has a very strong grasp of the overarching issues affecting Higher Education and
the UK student population as a whole. Peter holds a BA in History from the University of
Nottingham.
