Leadership/ Mentorship Development Program Courses The following Leadership/Mentorship Development Program Courses are being offered and can be used towards professional development hours. The courses are 10 hours in length and the facilitation method will be either 3 – 3.5 hours of either Elluminate or video conferencing (NSCC Lunenburg Campus or NSCC Burridge Campus) and computer assignments. If you are interested please register by completing the attached registration form and mailing along with payment two weeks prior the date of facilitation. 1. Helping Others to Work Collaboratively Course- ECDSC 1006 10 hour course This course is structured to allow learners the opportunity to study the concepts of working effectively in a collaborative work environment. In this course the learner will examine the elements that contribute to a work environment that supports collaboration. Date: March 10 th , 2012 from 9:00 to 12:00 Preregistration due February 24, 2012 Cost : $60 Facilitation Method: Elluminate first session and computer assignments. Using a computer and a headset with a microphone you will be given a link to log into an Elluminate Live Session with the facilitator. This is a real time virtual classroom. It is like having a chat, a white board and a telephone conference call all at once. Facilitator: Michelle Doucette, NSCC Early Childhood Education Faculty, Health & Human Services 2. The Workplace: Enhancing the Quality of Work Life -ECDSC 1005 (10 hour course) Learners will have the opportunity to study the concepts of creating a workplace environment that promotes a quality work life experience. In this course the learner will examine the elements that contribute to a healthy work environment. Date: March 10 th , 2012 from 1:00 to 4:00 Preregistration due February 24, 2012 Cost $60 Facilitation Method: Elluminate first session and computer assignments. Using a computer and a headset with a microphone and you will be given a link to log into an Elluminate Live Session with the facilitator. This is a real time virtual classroom. 4. Grant Proposal Writing Course--ECDSC 1004 (10 hour course) Allows learners the opportunity to be introduced to the general concepts related to effective grant and proposal writing. Date: April 5th, 2012 from 6:30 to 9:00 Preregistration due March 21, 2012 Cost $60 Facilitation Method: Video Conference first night and then computer assignments Facilitator: Jeff Kelly is the former project director for the Understanding the Early Years in Western Nova Scotia at the Kingstec Campus of Nova Scotia Community College. As project Director, Jeff conducted research in early learning and caring in over thirty-six communities in Western Nova Scotia. Jeff worked closely with early childhood community in identifying and facilitating grant opportunities for those with a passion for early childhood education. Before his work at NSCC, Jeff was the Strategic Initiatives Officer for Feed Nova Scotia. One of Jeff’s primary responsibilities at Feed Nova Scotia was to research and complete grants for the organization. Jeff is currently a program coordinator at the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia. Jeff has a Master’s of Public Administration degree from Dalhousie University and has completed several courses in adult education and fundraising from NSCC.

Wellness Planning Course -ECDSC 1008 (10 hour course) This course is structured to allow learners the opportunity to study the concepts associated with work related stress, burnout, and wellness planning. Date: May 9th, 2012 from 6:30 to 9:00 Preregistraion due April 25, 2012 Facilitation Method: Video Conference first night and then computer assignments Facilitator: Aine Tan, NSCC Practical Nursing Faculty, Health & Human Services 6. Mentorship Course -ECDSC 1010 (10 hour course) This course is structured to allow learners the opportunity to study the foundational concepts associated with mentorship both from a provisional basis and a receptive basis in their professional practice.
