This session is targeted for Critical Access Hospital (CAH) nursing leadership, quality improvement staff, and CEOs. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss current activities supported by the MT Flex Program and Performance Improvement Network (PIN), as well as provide input and strategies for the upcoming MT Flex Program application for 2018-2019 work. Attendees will participate in an innovative tabletop planning activity that will help guide the MT Flex Program as we go forward.

This session will primarily focus on the Medicare Beneficiary Quality Improvement Program (MBQIP). It will also explore expansion of support for additional harm reducing measures led by the MT Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN). MBQIP is a required activity of the MT Flex Program and to receive benefits, CAHs must participate in quality improvement and reporting of MBQIP measures.

Attendees will also participate in discussion and provide input to other Flex Program Areas, including Financial & Operational Improvement, Population Health Management and EMS Integration.

Most importantly, CAH leadership and staff will have the opportunity to spend time with peers in valuable round table discussions.

Attendance at this session is required to receive financial support for the MHA Health Summit from the MT Flex Program. Financial support is limited to 2 per hospital (CEO, DON or QIC).

the health care environment is shifting every day, and hospitals and health systems, along with their entire health care teams, need to be nimble in order to survive and thrive. But change is hard and its success or failure is based not just in communication and will, but understanding the stakeholders and how to lead where others might not choose to follow. dr. Bhatt and Ms. arespacochaga will share an overview of adaptive leadership key philosophies, methods, principles and practices that will assist in providing leaders the insights and resilience to lead change when facing complex system problems. these processes are people-focused, grounded in diverse perspectives, focused on mobilizing change and based on the premise that leadership is an activity not a person. You will leave with practical strategies so that you and your organization can take on any challenge and turn it into an opportunity to learn, grow, manage uncertainty, improve and make a difference in health care. manual abstraction or waiting on it to do reporting. at the end of this session, participants will have ideas on how to improve their programs using enhanced data management techniques, and begin detailed work on converting cart abstraction to csV uploads. FLEX CNE CPHQ

a3 Building ResilienCy: imPlementing tRauma inFoRmed CaRe PRaCtiCes - PaRt 1John richardson-Lauve, childsavers trauma has an impact on lives long after the event has occurred. From the adverse childhood experiences study (aces), we have learned how the high prevalence of childhood trauma affects health outcomes across the lifespan. if we learn the signs and symptoms of trauma and effective ways to mitigate it, we can have a greater impact as health professionals. one of the first steps in this solution is assuring a “trauma informed” foundation for all staff in a healthcare system. in a comprehensive approach, anyone touching the life of a person who may have been touched by trauma needs to understand the basic principles of the impact of trauma and the hope of building individual and community resilience. Participants will learn resilience-building strategies to support post-traumatic growth and will be able to identify at least two interventions they can utilize in the course of their work. CNE NHA

The greatest knowledge is sometimes found in the person sitting next to you or your neighbor down the road. Listen to other Montana hospitals describe their performance improvement projects in the MHA Health Summit Showcase presentations. Learn their process and implementation techniques as well as what worked and what didn’t from several different perspectives. Leave with both practical insight and tools to execute your own performance improvement projects.

Showcase 1Deer Lodge Medical Center, Deer Lodge, MT

Trauma ActivationDeer Lodge Medical Center identified multiple gaps within the trauma practice and procedures. The goals were to improve transfer times, quality of care through standardized processes for activating, standardized orders, and increased staff training and awareness. Prior to the project, the medical center was under-activating the trauma team, providing care that was not standardized from provider to provider, and there was a lack of commu-nication and collaboration between DLMC and outside organizations (ambulance, sheriff, etc.).

Showcase 2Central Montana Medical Center, Lewistown, MT

Healthcare Worker ImmunizationThis showcase will cover the process of implementing a campaign to immunize healthcare workers within the facility. This presentation will address the data that drives actions and implementation plans and the different ways facility leadership can support the efforts and help overcome challenges.

For those who carry a trauma history, it will forever be a part of their story. as Brené Brown has written, we need to strive to not be the hero of our own story, but to be the author. in this workshop we will focus on strategies to build resiliency as healthcare professionals in those with whom we work as well as in ourselves. We will focus on building individual resilience and also resiliency in systems and our communities. We have the opportunity to be with patients in the critical moments of their lives. Participants will be able to list at least three ways to build or support the resilience in their patients, and will identify three strategies for practicing self-care and managing the workplace vicarious trauma.CNE NHA

accreditation directly relates to regulatory compliance, meeting requirements, and is generally a necessary path to securing reimbursement. this process can be more meaningful to effect an organization to improve quality of care, promote safe practices and enhance the performance of the whole organization. the quality management system for an organization is typically subject to surveyor review and encompasses the entire organization; this

reach leads to better engagement, improved job satisfaction, better results from the patient experience and better operational performance. this presentation will explore the attributes of how an effective quality management system ties in with accreditation. Participants will understand the shortcomings of current aspects in an overall quality management system, and identify how changing the culture and process of accreditation can make it a more meaningful process that goes beyond compliance.
