Dear Reader,

In a time where digitalisation is progressing faster than ever and customers require faster deliveries, while asking for

more customisation and better services, efficiency and flexibility have become the basis for any successful business.

To lay the foundation for success nowadays, three factors will continue to be of utmost importance : process

excellence, leadership excellence and smart technologies.

Process excellence ensures that ‘the right things are done the right way’ (Peter Drucker) by creating standards,

maximising value adding and ensuring predictable and stable output.

Leadership excellence becomes more and more important, not only because it is the basis for successful adaption to

change but, even more so, because it is fundamental for sustainable change in the first place.

Implementing smart technology is all about identifying the right approach to technically enhance existing processes, which

have already been optimised in a first step. It is not about merely putting digital approaches on top of existing structures,

hoping that technology alone will cure inefficient and unstable processes. Acknowledging these three aspects and the

fact that change has never been more disruptive and fast moving than today, we at Staufen are convinced: ongoing

management qualification and an open eye beyond your company’s boundaries are crucial.

Considering all these demands, our new Academy program offers various topics and formats.

Our Lean Leader Program, for example, will help to develop the very basis for your Lean Journey: excellent Leadership

skills. Our Lean Expert and Lean Trainer Program, on the contrary, will qualify your employees in different fields -

from shop floor to indirect areas. A wide choice of seminars introducing basics, methods, and pragmatical digitisation

strategies rounds off our Academy program and will prepare you for the challenges of smart manufacturing.

When it comes to the topic of digitisation, we ourselves will walk the talk in 2019 more than ever before. Many of

our basic trainings will be made available in our web-based E-Learning environment, so you can choose to join our

seminars at your own convenience – wherever and whenever it suits you best.

Last but not least, we will host the NEXCON, a virtual and international congress on smart manufacturing – and

the very first of its kind. This 1-day event will give you the unique chance to meet and exchange with experts, both

from industry and research, without even leaving your office desk. Participants will benefit from in-depth insights,

experience sharing, and learnings about latest technological developments.

As pointed out by John Chambers, Executive Chairman of Cisco System, “at least 40% of all businesses will die in the

next 10 years…if they don’t figure out how to change their entire company to accommodate new technologies”.

Tobias Monden

DEVELOPMENT THROUGH CHANGE.

When it comes to the further development of our companies,

the keywords ‘lean management’ and ‘digital transformation’

have been prevalent for years, and even decades in the case

of ‘lean’. Above all, digitization offers opportunities in top-line

growth, where new markets and new business areas emerge,

and others on the other hand, may disappear. Complete

industries are changing, so in this respect, it is imperative to

engage with the topic, to consider opportunities and risks, and

to forge ahead.

LEAN MANAGEMENT AS A BASIS.

Lean management helps to control your processes, the

organisation of your business, and the connection you have

with your customers. Furthermore, companies that have

embarked on the ‘lean’ journey have shown to be significantly

more versatile than others (you may also take a look at our

study ‘Success through Change’). As we know not only since

Charles Darwin, adaptability is one, if not the main factor

when it comes to the survival and success of our enterprises.

Inside every company there is an even better one.

THE PATH TOWARDS AN EVOLVING ORGANISATION.

In this respect, we would like to encourage you to promote the

topic of ‘learning (adaptive) organisation’ in your area of

responsibility. This is best achieved through the continuous

development of the people who work in these organisations.

Our new academy program offers you a variety of formats and

topics with which you can actively and successfully shape the

future of your company. Because every enterprise has room

for improvement.

A prospective Lean Expert, who is supposed to plan and to implement the CIP,

should also be able to efficiently lead teams. Conflicts, demotivation and overall

intricacies throughout the Lean Transformation process are common challenges

to be solved by the Lean Expert. In fact, dealing with different opinions

and overcoming obstacles during the CIP are some of the most important

responsibilities of a Lean Expert and are not to be neglected. The Lean Bootcamp

covers essential basics on Lean process design as well as the CIP concept. In

addition to this, problem-solving skills as well as moderation and presentation

techniques will be enhanced.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The seminars emphasise how to actively implement the Lean idea. Participants

have to prepare and give structured presentations in order to strengthen

their soft skills and will receive immediate feedback to support their personal

development. The Lean Bootcamp will gather participants from various industries

and organizational structures – an excellent opportunity for networking and,

thus, for exchanging thoughts and ideas even after the Bootcamp is successfully

completed.

At times, optimisation potential is only recognised within the immediate

production environment. However, indirect areas (purchasing, controlling,

human resource, finance, sales, IT, customer service, etc.) need to be optimized

towards high excellence in the same way as applied in manufacturing areas.

Enormous potential for improvement can be found at all functions and at cross-

functional processes by the application of Lean principles. The overall goals

in indirect areas are comparable to those in manufacturing areas: increasing

productivity, reducing lead times, improving quality and developing high

performance teams – to name only a few. The Lean Administration training

supports you in identifying the various starting points to reduce Lean times and

to eliminate waste within indirect areas. You will learn about how to apply all

tools necessary to increase quality and productivity. By the application of a KPI-

based deviation management and job controlling you will be able to sustain your

process optimization efforts.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Theory sessions, Lean office simulations as well as practical examples will

provide you with all relevant tools for the analysis and optimisation of your

organisation. The Lean Administration training will be rounded off with you

developing a roadmap for a project in your company. The direct exchange with

experienced professionals of various industries will broaden your network and

will be a source for further inspiration.

TRAINING CONTENT » Create by basics and simulation of order processing to analyse and optimise

the order cycle / improvement organisation and Lean Administration concept in businesses

» Methodological competency in process analysis, optimisation, in function analysis, in regular communication, Shop Floor Management in indirect areas and 5S in the office

Practical and Professional Skills for Lean Logistics Experts

Lean Logistics

The problem of high inventory of defective parts as well as delivery delays

sounds familiar to you? The approach ‘separating value creation from logistics’ is

substantially changing classical materials logistics and thus brings about further

challenges? Moreover, a large amount of your personnel costs is related to

internal materials supply and provision, let alone the high amount of operation

activities attributable to materials handling?

The successful application of Lean methodologies in logistics supports the

production at the site of consumption through best-point supply in the work

system. An optimized production supply with short cycles and in synchronization

with customer orders can be achieved by the operation of tugger trains . Planning

and controlling processes, from customer orders via production on to suppliers,

are ideally to be designed with a consistent pull concept.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The Lean Logistics Training is characterized by a strong practical focus in terms of

learning about Lean methodologies and tools. Simulations and a live workshop

at our Best Practice Partner will underpin the training’s theory. You will learn

about how to optimize processes in logistics to ensure continuous supply of

materials while keeping inventory levels to a minimum. Furthermore, shaping

and driving the transformation process from push towards pull is part of the

training. You will become familiar with the Kanban cycle and with systematically

developing tugger trains.

TRAINING CONTENT » Basic of Lean logistics: material flow control and planning, pull principle, kanban,

JIT, JIS

» Internal logistics: in-house milkrun, supply methods

» External logistics: external milkrun, distribution logistics

» Planning and control: order processing, levelling and smoothing

Long lead times, high inventory levels, unexpected downtimes, and quality

fluctuations are only a few of the familiar situations that are to be avoided when

it comes to Lean Manufacturing. In order for the Lean idea to penetrate the

manufacturing environment of your organisation, it is paramount to focus on

the essentials of your business, i.e. the value creation processes. In doing so,

waste can be minimised, transparency increased and pull-system principles be

introduced.

The Lean Manufacturing Training with its holistic approach will support you in

sustainably optimising your manufacturing processes and thereby to achieve

a fully lean production set-up in which waste and lead times are reduced,

productivity and quality levels are increased, and supply readiness can be

assured even at minimized stock levels.

In cooperation with BP Partner, we offer you an innovative event concept.

Lean Leadership Basics

Fundamentally, the process of successful Lean transformation rests on embedding Lean into the strategy and the corporate culture. Managers have a central role to play here - they are not only managers, opinion leaders and problem solvers, but also teachers. Excellent leadership is the basis and driver of exemplary processes and the key to a successful lean journey. A Lean leader manages to invite people to change and win them over to CIP. Thus, a leader can develop his team significantly if he is aware that people are different and draw on their corresponding repertoire of possible behaviours.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The two modules focus in particular on the successful application and adaptation to your professional environment. This is achieved through hands-on skills in case studies and role-playing games as well as intensive feedback from experienced Lean leadership training instructors. Get familiar with the benefits of a holistic lean Lea-dership approach. Understand the relationships and modes of action of relevant leadership methods and significantly increase your impact as a leader.

Lean Leadership Advanced

Creating sustainable improvement is the ultimate discipline in Lean management. This requires the development and communication of a motivating target image. In both continuous improvement and problem-solving, leading employees to actions is a crucial success factor. Lean leaders succeed in creating a culture of trust in which employees can openly address problems and have the courage to try new ways of working. It is important that a cooperative leadership style as well as the principle of mentoring and socratic questioning are integral parts of the working routine of a Lean leader.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The two modules will teach you how to take on the role of a mentor in a target-oriented manner to increase your impact and that of your employees. The focus is not only on providing professional and appreciative feedback, but also on improving individual thinking ability. You will be able to employ the model of ‘leadership through questions’ successfully and sustainably in your leadership situations. This application is achieved through practical exercises and intensive feedback from experienced leadership training instructors.

TRAINING CONTENT

» The relationship between values, attitudes and behaviour that can be experienced

» Situational leadership and the cooperative leadership style as the basis for success

» The principle of mentoring as the foundation of how learning is organised

» Leading through questions, the leadership vision as a basis for reflection and feedback

» Success factors for leadership in an international context

Shop Floor Management

What makes the difference between a world-class production and a thoroughly

world-class company? Optimisation of processes and machines is a big part but

not all of it. Only companies which are also able to change the management and

leadership behavior are finally in the position to make this last, but most important

step towards operational excellence. Shop Floor Management brings leadership to the place where it is needed most – the Gemba. Managing cross-functional teams in order to detect deviations and solve problems are in focus. In addition, employees and managers can improve their problem solving and social skills in daily-business routine by using Shop Floor Management.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Benefit from the exchange with experts of successful companies and get a first-hand experience: from initial implementation to development of continuous value-added systems using Shop Floor Management. Practical examples, experience reports, fac-tory visits and live participation in Shop Floor meetings show how important lea-dership is to the success of a Lean transformation.

Improvement projects focus on the sustainable reduction of Lead times and aim

at achieving process stability. Eliminating waste is the key objective. Applying the

approach of value stream mapping is one of the most powerful tools to systematically

analyse and, hence, identify the various types of waste. Continuing from a detailed

value stream map, the value stream is to be designed in such a way that waste is

reduced to a minimum. Although value stream mapping and value stream design

are well-known methodologies, they are rarely applied in an effective manner.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Experience Leadership Best Practice Partner

Lean principles and practices have been around for about two decades and even some well-known Japanese methods, mostly originally from Toyota, have been available since a longer time. However, many companies misinterpreted lean as a set of tools and methods. Hence, they failed. Furthermore, an integration on of those Lean Principles with the companie’s guiding principles made many companies create their own ‘production system’. However, many companies had to face that achieve sustainably and consistently improved processes and results is not that easy and finally experience. Led a fading out. So, what is missing? What has not been noticed? The answer to these questions is the invisible part of lean, the leadership and management, the social interactions within the organisation at the different levels and functions and how people are developed to gain skills and proper behavior for a sustainable continuous improvement process.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

BP Partner will share with us what a successful Lean leadership style is and how it is implemented at his company. Participants will be able to experience first-hand how to practice and foster leadership within an organisation gaining awareness of the role of executives in the Lean Transformation.

Lean Administration

Indirect areas (Purchasing, Controlling, Human Resources, Finance, Sales, IT, Customer Service, etc.) need to be optimized towards high excellence in the same way as applied in manufacturing areas. Enormous potential for improvement can be found at all functions and at cross-functional processes by the application of Lean principles. The goals in indirect areas are likewise similar to those in manufacturing areas, such as increasing productivity, reducing lead times, improving quality and developing high performance teams.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

During this 2-day training after analysing the current situation of indirect areas, you will learn how to improve management and team performance through standardisation and visualisation of problems and approaches to solve those problems. Moreover, you will benefit from the exchange of ideas with experienced consultants and practitioners from various companies.

TRAINING CONTENT

» Awareness of waste-free office and project work: achieving maximum productivity, best possible quality and minimised lead times with small space requirements

» Practical experience in the 'Lean Administration' simulation: from analysing the current state to sustainable implementation of improvement measures

Successful value creation processes require an immediate identification of

problems, short reaction times and the continuous implementation of solutions.

This philosophy is to be deeply embedded into day-to-day operations and can be

achieved by establishing an additional function within your organisation. The so-

called Hancho, who acts between employees and the supervisor, is responsible

for permanently monitoring processes and thus for constantly driving the CIP on

the Shop Floor. A profound development of the Hancho’s hard and soft skills is

the prerequisite for him to become an expert in problem-solving and an excellent

leader.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

This training will point out the advantages of introducing the Hancho into your

organisation. During the training, you will realise that the benefits of the Hancho

will by far outweigh the extra costs of having an additional function on the Shop

Floor. Besides learning about the 'why', you will also focus on how to implement the

Hancho concept.

TRAINING CONTENT

Improvement Kata and Coaching Kata are systematic approaches primarily

intending to develop people’s capability for improvement and leadership by the

means of consistent daily practice. Kata means way of doing, pattern or routine -

which through repeated practice becomes a second nature. Coaching Kata is the

way to develop the leaders as internal coaches to teach the improvement Kata

every day, so that the expansion of the Kata 'method' can be generated and a new

culture achieved in the whole company. The daily practice of improvement Kata

and coaching Kata is done to develop people’s skills so that they solidly achieve

improvements in the processes, either at the Shop Floor (production), indirect areas

or services.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

In this 2-day seminar participants will learn how to develop employees‘ skills for improvement at different organisation levels and how to integrate Kata into daily Shop Floor Management. A systematic approach and method for sustaining Lean improvements and achieving higher levels of performance will be developed.

A famous quote says 'It is the set of the sails, not the direction of the wind that

determines which way we will go!'. During the second half of the last century, a

new concept on setting and cascading strategic goals evolved and became known as

the Hoshin Kanri approach. Hoshin Kanri, based on a company-wide vision, defines

mid-range goals for a time frame of 3 to 5 years and, resulting from these, sets goals

for the next year. This procedure is carried out in vertical and horizontal direction

along the organisational structure. The catchball process ensures that all employees

along the value stream are aligned with and focus on the same targets. With this

cross-functional awareness, the pursuit to continuously improve the value stream is

considerably enhanced among all employees.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Learn how you as a leader can set practical goals, improve projects and success factors, thereby giving your employees an effective orientation towards a lean enterprise. In addition to the theoretical mediation of the Hoshin-Kanri method, our trainers particularly value practical interactions.

HOW TO DRIVE PROGRESS IN YOUR COMPANY IN A STRUCTURED AND EFFICIENT WAY

Industry 4.0 and digitalisation in general are doubtlessly connected with fancy technology from automation through sensors and actuators to software solutions. The variety of so called 'smart' solutions is enormous, but their benefits are not always as promised. However, there are rather simple and small solutions that are not that visible on the Shop Floor but make a significant impact on your operations. Decisions on what to do are hard and the pressure of doing something is high since not going forward means going backwards.

AGENDA

Overview of Industry 4.0 and digitalisation in manufacturing Introduction to the Industry 4.0 Use Case approach In depth explanation of state-of-the-art Use Cases incl. their effects and what it takes to implement them and bring them alive in your organisationIdentification of possible application areas based on a company’s value stream Tips and tricks for the Use Case implementationHow to set up an implementation roadmap

This workshop is designed for companies which want to bring Industry 4.0 alive in their operations quickly and efficiently. Therefore the goal is to provide a wide but also detailed set of current solutions on the market and enable participants to differentiate between beneficial ones and the ones that look just fancy but have little impact.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

FROM A VISION TO THE INITIATION OF YOUR DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

Digitalisation. A megatrend that no company can ignore! At the same time, however, its nature is not immediately apparent to many corporate executives. Opportunities and challenges often remain diffuse, yet buzzwords dominate communication. Specific first steps do not seem to be worthwhile since classical characteristics of the value added 'turnover, cost structure, flexibility' are too dominant and long-established practices to achieve company goals are too deeply embedded in the culture. Digitalisation is revolutionising the value added to entire industries, changing the way companies address their customer's needs, creating new sales channels, and opening efficiency potentials throughout the company. Pioneers are already achieving considerable success.

Following the fast-changing urbanisation trend in China, many manufacturing companies are facing relocation from 1st tier to 2nd or 3rd tier cities. New market opportunities, lower costs and better infrastructures are some of the benefits, however relocation also comes with many challenges. Needless to say, every change is an opportunity to improve towards a 'Leaner' manufacturing and supply chain. Not only the decision-maker but also the managers of the company to be relocated should have clear expectations for the 'new' factory in terms of supply chain network, production system, factory layout, improved operation KPIs, etc. All of it should be done in a structured way.

Our program 'How to Relocate your Factory in China' will provide you 6 days of systematic training sessions based on our excellent Lean principles and rich experience of successful projects. Through these trainings you will learn how to design a new factory from strategy and concept to implementation in combination of Lean principles applied to your industries.

Manufacturing companies spend on average 10-20% of personnel costs on internal material supply and provision, and about 75% of operation activities are related to material handling. To support continuous production the necessary material must also be in a synchronised flow, and permanently available in pull operations. Synchronised flow of material means having the right material in the right quantity, at the right time, of the right quality, at the right place. Like in a supermarket, only those goods, which have actually been used, are refilled on the shelves.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The aim of this seminar is to learn to shorten the lead times by sustainable reduction of all inventories and increasing the inventory turnover. This is achieved by Lean and synchronised flow of material. With our practical Kanban game you will understand the relationship with a simplified production control. You will also understand how synchronised flow of material impacts your operations and improve performance in your production by the interaction of production and logistics systems: permanent delivery capability with minimum inventory.

TRAINING CONTENT

» Concept and system of Lean and synchronised flow of material

» Importance of supply chain formation in practice-system-optimised versus flow-optimised

» When and how is the introduction of supermarkets and buffers a good idea?

» Production and withdrawal Kanban – container, card or electronic Kanban?

» Exercise Kanban: selection and setting of control loops

(Practical) Problem solving (PPS) is the 'power' behind continuous improvement,

which is the backbone of Lean. There is a lot of discussion about how to introduce

Lean and especially a CI (continuous improvement) Culture. This introduction

contains mainly the steps of firstly identifying and solving business problems and its

root cause and secondly to search for improvement ideas. This is done at a higher

level and with a deeper degree. Another aspect is: most companies believe they

are capable of problem solving, but actually often inaccurate. Many just do action

lists and firefighting and are lacking of a systematical and sustainable approach.

Therefore, a real wide based ability in Practical Problem solving is the unique and

most effective tool in order to become a learning organisation.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

In this 2-day seminar you will learn the 'original' Toyota A3 PPS approach and how it differs from traditional methods, supported by practical examples and hints. You will get a clear understanding of how PPS is transferred from the day-to-day deviation between KPI targets and actual performance. Moreover, you will understand how to create a crew of problem solvers by Shop Floor Management.

» Introduction of the importance of problem solving

» Problem solving tools and their application

» Closed loop problem solving methods
